Chapter 180: Lying To Everyone In The Family

*Grayson Estate*

*Some hours before the announcement*

William stood in front of the mirror, adjusting his tailor made suit, just like all his clothes, his grandmother insisted on having them custom made.

To her, as the only Grayson grandchild working in the family business, he had to properly represent the family and stand tall. He picked up a waxing comb to brush his hair back, but was intercepted by a call on his phone.

He immediately picked it up and saw it was a text message.

"Can’t wait to see you tonight." It read.

William stared at the text and ended up cracking a small smile. He was just about to respond when his bedroom door was opened and in came his grandmother, father and mother.

"Looking handsome as usual my William, you remind me of your father when he was younger." Sophia said, stepping into the room.

William swiftly turned his phone off and slapped it on the dresser. His mother, Laura noticed this and narrowed her eyes at the gesture. Standing erect, he opened his arms, receiving his grandmother’s hug.

"Thank you, grandmother."

Edward sat on the sofa, "This is the perfect time to strike son, Malcolm has lost whatever leverage he has against us now that his precious son has disowned father. I’ll have your marriage planned out immediately, and we’ll monopolize father’s situation."

Sophia nodded, "Now, we have more time on our hands to be a bit more selective with William’s bride. I have some interesting ladies you’ll be meeting with today after you’re done from the office."

Laura frowned, "Mother, I think that William is already working hard enough in the company to win his grandfather’s favor." She walked over to her son and gently caressed his cheeks.

"Right son?"

William could sense his mother was hinting at something else but he ignored it. He peeled her hands off his face and kept his stoic expression.

"I agree with father, we must take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity. Grandfather is weak, he needs something to keep his spirits high and this marriage is exactly that. We don’t know what Maverick is planning, and we do not have the luxury to wait. Me getting married is our best bet." He said, in a tone that was hard to read.

Edward smiled, "I couldn’t be more proud to hear those words." He got up, "Come mother, I have some options I think you need to include in your list."

Sophia excitedly nodded and left with her son to discuss William’s marriage. As soon as they left, Laura grabbed her son by the hands and looked him in the eye.

"Son, you can tell me the truth, you’re not happy with this are you? No one wants to get married against their will. Just tell me and I’ll make sure to talk to your grandmother about it." She pleaded in loud whispers.

William shook his head, "I am happy to see that grandmother and father care enough about my well-being to arrange a marriage for me." he said, his tone lacking any emotion.

"William, don’t go down this path, it’ll only cause you and your spouse unhappiness..." she was saying but he cut her off. free𝑤ebnovel.com

He glared harshly at her, "So you expect me to act out and end up like Thane? Without this family, I am nothing. Without the business, I have nothing. Not all of us can afford to live as we please, you mother must know about that better than anyone." He said, then picked up his phone and marched furiously out of the room.

It came as a huge shock to the Grayson family that night, that not only did Matthew show up with a fiance, but with the exact amount of money Maverick had asked for.

Sloane especially who had heard the Rosamunds were paying off suitors to meet with Mallory didn’t expect that a Grayson would stoop so low to sell himself for money.

"Son are you insane?! You disappear without a trace and expect us to accept this marriage?" Malcolm raised his voice, staring at Matthew, and the petrified looking Mallory.

Matthew kept a straight face, "I didn’t come here to speak with you, I’m here to see grandfather." He said.

Edward, who looked like he had seen a ghost spoke up, "Malcolm you are a persistent bastard. After your first son acted out you immediately got the second one paired up, how desperate can you get for another man’s property?"

Malcolm turned to his brother. "I hear that William is back to seeing women after work. Who the hell are you to speak about shame to me?" He hissed at the end.

Sophia snorted, "I won’t allow my precious grandson to let his inheritance be stolen by a piece of scum like Matthew! Selling yourself like this, you ought to be ashamed."

Desmond chimed, "I see the Rosamunds were really desperate to get into our family. It seems these two are a perfect fit, one worthless the other shameless. If you think grandfather will accept this marriage, you’re even dumber than I thought Matthew." He pointed out, proving a point that sounded useful.

Sophia chimed, "My husband must want nothing to do with your faction any longer, you can kiss all of your chances at the inheritance and winning him over goodbye." She laughed, amused at the idea of Matthew selling himself for a spot at the inheritance.

"The only one worthy of it is my William here and no one else." She boasted, earning a laugh out of Matthew.

He turned to William, who was silent, just as he usually was in these situations.

"Is that true, cousin? That you’re the heir grandfather is looking for?" He asked.

William glared at him, "Choose your words wisely Matthew, I don’t tolerate stupidity."

Matthew raised his hands in surrender, "Sorry, sorry, but I just wanted to be certain if you think grandfather would accept you, after he finds out you’re lying to everyone here." He revealed, wearing an all knowing look on his face.
