Chapter 39: Chapter 39 Sharing the Same Pillow

Li Ang’s heart suddenly trembled.

Not again, officer, are you kidding me?

But a scent that he suddenly smelled at the tip of his nose had him relax slightly, and the next moment, his heartbeat accelerated again.

The smell was very familiar; it was the same as the shower gel he had just used while bathing.

Then, the figure carefully slid into his bed.

At this moment, the room was eerily quiet, with both figures on the bed motionless.

The only sound probably in the entire house was the two people’s hearts beating violently in unison.

Finally, Sheila couldn’t hold her breath any longer and took a deep gulp of air.

Li Ang couldn’t help it either and chuckled.

“Dear Li, I know this might be disrespectful to you, but… it’s the only way I can feel somewhat at peace when I sleep,”

Sheila’s voice was as soft as a mosquito, nowhere near as dominant as it had been when she was protecting Li Ang.

What could Li Ang do?

It was still the same old saying: when helping, help all the way through.

“Can I hold onto your arm while I sleep?”

“If you want to.”

Li Ang continued to chant in his heart, when helping, help all the way through.

“Miss Sheila, your hand seems to have moved a bit too far.”

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to.”

Though Sheila said that, her hand didn’t move an inch.

A lot happened that night, and yet some things didn’t happen at all.

After all, they had just gone through such an ordeal, and it was hard for both to have other thoughts on their minds.

But while they slept comfortably, the police station and the hospital both worked overtime until midnight.

Isabella frowned as she looked at the medical report in front of her.

“Skull fracture, severe intracranial hemorrhage, serious concussion…”

“It seems like the patient suffered a severe blow to the head with a blunt object.”

She knew that there was little hope for this patient to be saved, and even in the off chance they were saved, they would be in a vegetative state.

She flipped open the next medical report, and even for someone as experienced as she was, her eyebrows involuntarily raised.

“Cervical fracture, mandibular fracture, ruptured eardrum in the right ear, ruptured kidney, and both testicles also…”

While not as severe as the first patient, this one was even more brutal.

From the photos, she could tell that these injuries were all inflicted by someone.

It made her shudder; how terrifying must the person be?

She dared not imagine how these injuries came about.

“Don’t just stand there; go prepare two shots of adrenaline, no, make that four, and get ready for surgery.”

Upon hearing the chief surgeon’s voice, Isabella finally snapped back to reality.

Inside the police station, the officer in charge of the case was sorting through the statement and surveillance footage.

“Hey, Catina, did you bring supper for your brother?”

The person on duty at the front greeted the redheaded girl with glasses entering the door.

“Yes, that’s right, Uncle Mike.”

The girl’s voice was timid,

“Oh, how I wish I had a cute daughter like you. Unfortunately, I only have two rascals who do nothing but make me angry all day long.”

Uncle Mike, the man mentioned by the girl, sighed and muttered.

Catina took small steps, confidently made her way to her brother Tyler’s office, and smiled and nodded to everyone she met along the way.

“Respected Officer Tyler-Bair, how much longer until you get off work?”

Catina placed the meal box on the table and spoke in the tone of a child.

Tyler didn’t even turn his head, his eyes still fixed on the computer screen, sighed and said,

“It might take a while, I need to finish this report.”

Catina, bored on the side, also watched the surveillance footage on the screen with interest.

“My God, I think I need to put a lock on the back window of our house too. If it’s so easy for someone to break in like that, I don’t think I could sleep at night.”

Tyler said with some pride, “Our house isn’t that easy to break into, dad spent a pretty penny on a security system.”

The two continued to watch the scene on the monitor.

About seven or eight minutes later, suddenly a dark figure bolted out from the window.

Naturally, it was Li Ang who followed.

“Only one left of the two who just broke in?”

Catina was surprised; she didn’t expect someone to be subdued inside the house so quickly, and she seemed to have heard no gunshots.

“Just keep watching, the excitement is just beginning.”

Tyler smiled and said to his sister.

“That black guy sure can run fast! How do you catch someone in the dead of night? And, with just a baseball bat in his hand, can he really beat him?”

Catina remarked, watching the surveillance, as the black man almost seemed to be running fast enough to leave afterimages.

No sooner had she spoken, than she saw Li Ang throw the baseball bat and knock down the black man.

“Nice shot, but now he’s lost his only weapon.”

It wasn’t easy to hit a black man running at full speed with a baseball bat in the dead of night.

Catina couldn’t help but feel a bit worried herself.

The screen showed the Asian youth was significantly smaller in size compared to the black man.

Now, weaponless, could the roles be reversing, turning the hunter into the hunted?

Catina realized her prediction was indeed correct; the black man who had been scrambling away, realizing he couldn’t run anymore after falling, turned around to attack the Asian youth.

Her heart clenched.

But the next moment, she widened her eyes in amazement.

She watched as the slender Asian youth seemed to close the distance rapidly, a perfectly elaborate set of moves keeping the black man as defenseless as a punching bag.

“Brother, are you sure you’re not showing me an action movie from China?”

Catina squinted suspiciously at Tyler.

However, as soon as she asked, she felt the question was a bit silly; her brother, who was a workaholic, was unlikely to be watching movies while working overtime.

Tyler rolled his eyes at her, then said,

“There might be more news that could surprise you even more.”

“Ah?”

“This guy is a high school student, he’s only seventeen this year.”

“He’s even two years younger than me.”

Catina felt a bit sentimental.

Perhaps to repay her brother for the look he just gave her, Catina turned and asked,

“And what about you, brother? If you were on the scene, you could have taken down that bad guy even faster than him, right?”

Tyler’s breath hitched for a moment, then he relaxed and said,

“Of course, I’ve got a gun.”

“Can you play it again, brother? I want to watch it one more time.”

Tyler didn’t find it strange, considering he himself had watched it no less than ten times.

Behind him, however, Catina lifted her phone.
