Conquest Game: The Aloof Husband is Dangerous!-Chapter 225 - 199: Harder Than Reaching the Heavens
"Alright!"
"Your sister can go, but your dad..."
Jason Hawthorne and Laura Quincy almost spoke at the same time, but they said different things.
Justin Hawthorne looked at one, then the other, and immediately understood, "Oh... then let dad not go. Having my sister with me is enough."
Jason Hawthorne looked at his son with a blank expression, wondering how despised he was by his own child?
"If dad can go on Friday afternoon, the day after tomorrow, he still will. Otherwise, how can you and your sister manage without protection amidst the chaos?"
"I’m a man! I’ll protect my sister!"
As he said this, Justin puffed out his chest with great seriousness, looking like a typical little adult.
Laura Quincy felt warmth in her heart. She really was fortunate! She had two men who cared about her...
She knew Jason Hawthorne was worried about the rumors spreading around, fearing she might face gossip. But she felt the kindergarten was a pure place; it shouldn’t be that bad!
For several consecutive days, the rumors about Jason Hawthorne’s injury grew more and more rampant, becoming increasingly absurd. At present, there were at least three versions.
First: Jason Hawthorne is still in the intensive care unit, fighting for his life, so he’s not disclosing any information.
Second: Jason Hawthorne was shot in a vital area; though he survived, he’s not fully conscious, hence refusing visitors.
Third: Jason Hawthorne suffered a severe gunshot wound on his arm, risking amputation, and unable to accept this fact, he’s refusing to see anyone.
These three rumors were spread incessantly outside, but the person involved continued to recover quietly, seeming unfazed.
Every day, there were many reporters camped outside Sunstone Hospital, but the security measures were so effective, they couldn’t get in.
Even if some managed to sneak in, they still couldn’t find Jason Hawthorne’s ward because everyone knew the hospital’s VIP floor was off limits to ordinary people, including non-VIP medical staff.
Thus, finding out about Jason Hawthorne’s condition was harder than reaching the sky!
Suddenly, all media entities and news agencies were scrambling for connections, trying to get the first-hand news.
Unfortunately, after several days of efforts, they were still utterly fruitless.
Laura Quincy always used the exclusive passage when going in and out, thus avoiding reporters.
In the morning, she had just brought some changes of clothes from home when she heard a familiar voice arguing with a nurse.
"I know Jason Hawthorne is staying at your hospital’s VIP floor. I’m his mother, so quickly take me there."
"Madam, I’m sorry! We aren’t authorized to accommodate relatives of VIP patients, nor are we entitled to know any VIP patient information. We genuinely don’t know about what you are asking, but if you want to visit your son, you can call him to know how to find him."
The nurse answered clearly and logically, explaining her predicament and providing the fastest way to locate her son.
However, Eleanor Ford wasn’t so easy to dismiss. She came here precisely because her son refused to let her visit...
"Why can’t you understand me, nurse? Call your hospital director! I want to ask him face-to-face!"
"This... Madam, please don’t make it difficult for me. I’m just a small nurse without such authority. If you know our director, the easiest way would be to call him yourself."
"Do you not understand what I’m saying?"
Hearing this, Laura Quincy couldn’t help but feel anxious for the little nurse. Clearly, it was Ms. Ford who didn’t understand...
She raised her leg to leave since Ms. Ford had no patience for her anyhow, thinking it better to check with Jason first.
Unexpectedly—
She hadn’t taken two steps before Eleanor Ford called her out, "Laura Quincy?"
Sigh... She shouldn’t have listened those extra two minutes.
Being pointed out, she could only turn back, "Hello, Ms. Ford."
Laura knew calling her "Auntie" would surely offend, so she opted for a polite yet distant term.
Eleanor Ford unhappily said, "What’s the meaning of wanting to leave as soon as you see me? Which room is Jason staying in? Quickly take me up; this nurse is impossible to communicate with. Once I see John, I’ll demand her dismissal!"
A flock of crows flew over Laura’s head...
The nurse being pointed at could only stand there helplessly. She knew Laura. Originally thought she encountered a conniving matron, but it seemed she faced a difficult and unreasonable one...
Laura could only silently sympathize with the little nurse...
Regarding Eleanor Ford’s request, Laura couldn’t reject it. First, she was Jason Hawthorne’s mother; second, Laura had no position to refuse her...
She was already unwelcome. If the relationship wasn’t managed well, it would only worsen...
Eleanor Ford talked while walking, "What exactly is Jason’s injury?"
Laura Quincy answered honestly, "The bullet in his right arm has been removed. He’s currently recovering, and those outside rumors are false."
Eleanor Ford’s anxious heart finally calmed down, "Since there’s no major problem, why aren’t you letting us visit him? I thought he was hiding the worst news."
Laura hadn’t replied when she commented again, "You too! You know how worried his father and I are about him, but you don’t persuade him? Are you hoping we worry more, to enjoy your time alone at the hospital?"
Eleanor Ford looked at Laura with displeasure, treating her as the culprit...
Laura felt unjustly accused. She was really getting blamed for nothing!
"Ms. Ford, you’ve misunderstood, I..."
"Misunderstood what? Isn’t it obvious? From the moment my son got injured and hospitalized, you’ve been there. But what have you done for him? I think even meeting you was a mistake for Jason! A jinx!"
At the end, she added the last three words, in a very unpleasant tone.
Laura sighed silently, realizing that in Ms. Ford’s eyes, whatever she did was wrong...
Forget it! Explaining is just covering up, and she wouldn’t believe her anyway; it’s better not to waste extra breath.
Jason Hawthorne was lying in bed, contemplating what kind of proposal scene would move Laura to accept. He then heard his mother’s voice at the door.
Eleanor Ford opened the door and walked over to her son, "Jason, where exactly are you hurt? Let mom take a look."
Jason Hawthorne looked helplessly at his mother, his peripheral vision discreetly glancing at Laura behind her, seemingly asking: Did you run into my mom? Did she make things difficult for you?
Laura shook her head silently, indicating he shouldn’t worry.
Eleanor Ford was instantly unhappy. Her son was typical, forgetting his mother after having a wife! Moreover, the wife hadn’t even been brought home yet and wasn’t approved by her.
She said displeasedly, "I have something to say to my son alone, you can leave now!"
Jason Hawthorne said urgently, "Mom, Laura isn’t an outsider."
Eleanor Ford looked heartbroken, "Jason, are you not listening to your mom anymore? Ever since meeting this woman, you haven’t told mom anything. Not even allowing me to visit such a big event as a hospital stay. Did she put you up to it?"
Jason Hawthorne’s head was tired and aching, "Mom, you’re overthinking! Not letting you come was to prevent you from leaking the news at home, it has nothing to do with Laura. She’s a good woman..."
Eleanor Ford became even angrier, "You’re still speaking for her? What on earth is good about her?"
Laura couldn’t listen any longer and kindly spoke, "I’ll go find Mary for something, you two talk."
Jason Hawthorne could only give her an apologetic look.
Laura understood, having two men who loved her was true, but having a future mother-in-law who disliked her was quite troublesome...
After Laura left, Eleanor Ford spoke even more flagrantly against her, and Jason Hawthorne felt helpless. He found whenever he defended Laura, his mother only became angrier...
Eventually, he simply stopped responding.
After Eleanor Ford spoke for a while, she realized her son hadn’t responded and asked, "Did you listen?"
Jason Hawthorne held his forehead, "Mom, I’ve already made it clear, my wife can only be Laura. She’s Twinkle’s biological mother, and both Twinkle and I need her, which will never change."
Eleanor Ford almost exploded, realizing she had spoken so much in vain?
"If mom doesn’t allow you to marry that woman, making you choose between mom and her, what then?"
"Mom, is that necessary? Even Twinkle wouldn’t answer such a childish question."
"..."
Eleanor Ford was stumped by her son’s words, "So you’re still determined to choose her?"
For the first time, Jason Hawthorne found his mother so unreasonable, "Mom, this isn’t a choice question. You’re my mother, Laura is my future wife. I hope you two can coexist peacefully, and I wish you attempt to learn more about her. She’s not as bad as you think."
Eleanor Ford was infuriated, furiously throwing down a sentence, "Peaceful coexistence? That’s never possible!"
Then she directly slammed the door and left.
Jason Hawthorne: "..."
