Chasing The Vengeful Villainous Heiress-Chapter 95: Prom’s in two weeks
"If you don’t mind, I would like to help out in the meantime. Trust me, I’ll be the best assistant."
Valerie looked at the confidence in Mariam’s eyes. She looked like she was very serious. And though she wasn’t exactly doubting her abilities by her age, she was skeptical why Mariam wanted to be her assistant.
Ross was not really a place someone like Mariam would want to start out. Taking the fact that she was Stewart’s granddaughter, allowing her to work as her assistant in such a company was wasting her abilities.
Ross was not really a bad company to start out with but it was falling apart. The reputation was ruined and the work load was much. Was it okay to give her that responsibility?
"Mariam." Valerie called. "I don’t know why you offered to help but I don’t think I can take you up on that." She said, and Valerie’s brows fell.
"Why not?" Mariam asked. "I may not have experience but I’m very quick on my feet and I’m the best in my class when it comes to business and finance." She proudly claimed and placed her hand on her chest. "I’ll do my best and not let you down, I promise."
Valerie went silent, staring at her.
"I do not doubt your capabilities." She said. "And I don’t care for your age, as long as you’re capable. But... As long as I don’t know the reason you want to go so far, I cannot really take you as my assistant."
They all fell silent and Mariam opened her mouth to speak but before she could, Valerie raised her phone to check the time once again and sighed.
"I’ve wasted too much time." She said and turned to Max. "I’ll have to go now." She stretched out her hands, placed them on his face and went on her toes to plant a kiss on his lips. Then, she smiled and said, "I’ll see you around, hubby."
Max was a bit dumbstruck, standing there and trying to recover from the surprise kiss he got from her while she left.
The sound of Valerie’s car’s engine broke him out of his trance and he looked up to stare at her car.
"Haha, she got me this time." He said and turned to Mariam. "You good?"
"Why wouldn’t I?" She asked and folded her arms.
"Hm, for someone who got rejected, you’re taking this pretty lightly." He said, observing his sister closely. But Mariam simply scoffed and said,
"I’m not giving up. Miss Valerie might be cautious but it’s good and that makes me want to work for her more." She said.
"Really? I thought you wanted to work for her because you were feeling guilty." He said and she flinched, her face turning red from embarrassment.
"W-what? You knew?" She asked.
"Of course. I mean, you weren’t making it any more obvious." He said and looked towards the distance. "Right now, Valerie needs a vassal whom she can trust. I’d like that to be no one other than you because I trust you."
"Brother?" She looked at him feeling touched, but then she noticed the grin on his lips and her expectations fell. "Don’t tell me,"
He turned to look at her and his grin grew.
"...you want it to be me not because you trust me but because you don’t want an outsider getting close to her."
"You’re so smart." He said and cackled. "Though I don’t like it, having my sister spend the whole time with her is far better than having some stranger share the same space with every single moment. Kekeke."
Mariam watched her brother in disbelief. Seriously, had he always been like this? Why did it feel like he was more dangerous now than when he climbed his way to the top, taking out all the competition for his position.
"Haah." She sighed and shook her head. Well, it was only temporary since she would be going to college soon. Or should she postpone her admission?
School wasn’t running away and she could help out even with her current capabilities. She wanted to be of help.
’Ugh, I almost forgot.’ she placed her hand on her head. ’Prom’s in two weeks. But I don’t think I’ll be able to go with my brother, seeing things are still messy here. If only the troubles could disappear.’
If only the troubles could disappear. Valerie was exhausted and wished for this continuously.
Enemies were using this opportunity to try to bring Ross down for good and she was contemplating if to just give it up, bring it down to shambles and start afresh.
These thoughts... Maybe if it was like two months ago, where she had no one but Frankie by her side, before she reunited with Max, she wouldn’t have had those thoughts.
But it was just speculation as no one knew if she would give up the company after finally getting her revenge.
She didn’t have much ambition concerning the company. All she wanted was to get them to suffer just as much as she did.
"Haah." She sighed, pressing the space between her eyes. "I’m exhausted."
So many things were happening all at once and the company had turned into her home, thank God for the room in her office.
All she had to do was change the bedding and it was good as new.
Valerie had to clear things up with the mansion and instead of adding so much to her stress, she settled the servants and sold it.
There were no fond memories so she knew she would have no regrets. After all, she had a family of her own now. But before she could even enjoy the bliss that came with her new family, she had to finish things up in the company and it was taking too much time.
She wished she could sell it the way she sold the house. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
Why was she even holding on to it? If not that it was her parents legacy... She sighed once more, scribbling away on the files in front of her.
Her assistant had already gone home so she was left once again, alone in this humongous building that was filled with nothing but emptiness.
Then, she stumbled on one of the documents that her assistant had left her before she left. She took a look at it and her eyes widened.
An anonymous person had bought almost half of the shares of the company, making them the second biggest shareholder.
This was only possible because the former shareholders were all running off and selling their shares, and thanks to the falling stocks, they were cheap.
So this anonymous person decided to take this opportunity to buy most of the shares. But even with that, he could only get 30%.
’Who is this person?’ she placed down the document. ’I don’t know if they are friends or foes. Should I be worried?’
