Chasing The Vengeful Villainous Heiress-Chapter 115: I’m thankful I got back with you
Valerie stared at Max with stern eyes. Why? Just why didn’t he tell her that it was already past noon?
She stared at her phone. It was exactly 3 pm. She had been asleep for so long yet he didn’t even bother to inform her about it.
"There was honestly no need," Max said. Her thoughts were practically written all over her face. "If I had told you that you were asleep till this late, would you have rushed out of the bed and gone to greet everyone?"
Valerie clicked her tongue and looked away. She guessed it didn’t matter. She just felt it would’ve been better if he told her.
Wait, was that why he covered her up with the blanket? Was he worried that she would spring out of the bed to greet his assistant good morning when it was already afternoon?
"Absolutely not." Max responded.
"Hm?"
"It’s because you’re completely naked, Valerie."
"I’m putting on a shirt though." She said, but he didn’t consider that as being dressed.
"No one should see you like this other than me. That’s why I covered you up before allowing them to come in." He explained and Valerie blinked, surprised.
Then, she squinted her eyes to observe him carefully. Did he have some sort of mind-reading powers? How was he so accurate in answering her thoughts?
And this wasn’t even the first time.
"I can’t actually read what’s on your mind, Valerie." Max said, placing cubes of sugar in her tea. "Your expressions simply give you away."
"My expressions, huh?" She touched her cheeks.
"Yes. You used to be indifferent, remember? And so, I wasn’t able to tell what you were thinking. But after seeing you make vivid expressions with that once indifferent face, it wasn’t hard to pinpoint what you were thinking." He stirred the tea. "I don’t know if that’s how it works but that’s how I get it."
Valerie went silent. So that’s how. Well, she didn’t hate it. If he was able to tell what she was thinking then she wouldn’t need to use her words.
She looked at her phone and stopped the recording, smiling to herself. She already had a lot of recordings of the things he said to her but she would still not stop. She would continue recording him and if there came a time when she wanted to hear his voice and want around, she would play the recordings and listen to his voice.
It was perfect. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Max helped her sit up and it was that moment she realized how bad it was. Her waist was... Wait no, it was her back. Or was it her thighs?
No... It was everywhere.
She shot him a sharp glare which immediately transformed into a pained-filled gaze.
"I think my back is broken." She wailed.
"Oh, no. Does it hurt a lot?" Max asked but she could only sob.
"Every movement triggers discomfort and pain, Max. What have you done to me?" She said, grabbing his shirt. "It hurts so much."
This made Max feel restless and he began to question himself. If he were to continue at that pace, he would definitely wear her out. She liked it now but what if she came to hate him? What if...?
"Oh dear, I see the light." Valerie dramatically stated, and that immediately set Max off his worries. Wait, why did it seem so familiar?
Who uses that statement when suffering for real?
Haah. He sighed. He should’ve seen this coming.
"Are you done playing with me?" Max asked. "I know you’re acting out on purpose."
She dropped her act and gave him a certain dubious smile.
"Gosh, how ’ever’ did you find out? Was my acting that bad?"
"No, it’s perfect." He kissed her forehead. "You could’ve gotten away with it if you didn’t add that last line. It’s so similar to what’s in the book."
"Tch, I almost had him."
Well, she did use the words from that book on purpose.
"Thanks to your ’care’ my back didn’t break in two." She said and tried to stretch but that did not work out the way she wanted and her face melted. "But seriously, it hurts." She said.
"Then don’t tempt me so much next time. You’re dangerous. Your mouth and your body." He said and they both laughed.
Max stared at her softly. To think she also had this side.
All along, he thought she had a hard shell on the outside and her insides were hard as well. He thought of her as cold. She was the perfect definition of ice but not anymore.
She was smiling brightly and doing things he never thought he could. She was making jokes and teasing him as well.
It was like she had become a normal human being who had never passed through all that heartache and pain she passed through.
Why was that? How was she so free now?
"When you have nothing to hide from, will you keep your mask on?" Valerie suddenly asked.
In the same manner he had read her thoughts through her expressions, she was reading his through his gaze.
"No. There would be no need to wear a mask."
"There you have it." She sipped her tea. "I’ve cleared up the misunderstanding with you, had my revenge, and gotten the family I always wished to have. I inevitably have to shed away that tough skin and let the softness see the light, right?" She smiled brightly.
Max stared. Seeing her smile so comforting made his heart beat in a certain way. It was like falling in love all over again.
"I’m thankful I got back with you." Max suddenly said, watching her as she ate.
Valerie saw this as a sign and turned on her recording.
"You’re the only one I want to spend my life with." Max said. "You’re the reason I got to this point and because of you, I’ll keep going. I’ll make a life for you where you have nothing to worry about and no one to fear."
"I don’t think I feared anyone till now."
"Well, just take it as an assurance." He said. "With me by your side, you’ll live a life of heaven on Earth."
Her heart was touched and she saved the recording.
"Did you get all of it in recording?" Max asked and she flinched.
"Hm?"
"I know you were recording my words." He said and she darted her eyes aside. "Haha, I wonder."
"I like it." Max said. "Keep recording my words. You can use them against me in the future."
"Why would I do that?" She asked but he shrugged.
"Who knows? I can’t tell what’s going to happen in the future and neither can you. So keep up that habit, okay?"
She smiled but something about what he said made her feel uneasy.
She shook her head, deciding to brush it off. It was probably nothing. Even if he didn’t tell her, she would keep making recordings and keep them safe.
"Oh, by the way, aren’t you going to work?" Valerie asked, realizing he was spending so much time with her lately and to which he responded,
"I took a honeymoon leave."
She looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
"Already?"
