Chasing The Vengeful Villainous Heiress-Chapter 116: There might be another force behind the scene
"I took a honeymoon leave." Max said, and Valerie looked at him with raised eyebrows.
"Already?"
"Yes." He brushed off the crumbs of bread from the corner of her mouth. "We’re going to Ireland soon."
"What’s in Ireland?"
"Mariam’s school." He answered. "We’re going to prom."
"Hm, Prom." She nodded. "By the way, how’s Mariam doing at the company? Isn’t it a lot of stress for a 19-year-old to handle?"
"Stress?" Max shook his head. "Mariam looks like she’s having the fun of her life, so don’t take it away from her yet and let her enjoy it. Thanks to her, the company is far more stable."
"That so?" She lowered her head and took a bite out of her bread. It wasn’t that she was sad about the outcome but she was rather disappointed in herself.
Not so much that she would get let down though. She just felt... Her parents shouldn’t have left the company to her in the first place. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
Seriously, what were they thinking?
"Hey, do you want to work that badly?" Max asked and she raised her head to look at him with a weirded-out expression.
"No way, I hate working." She said. "I would very much like to lazy around, thank you very much."
"Then why the long face?"
"My parents..." She paused. "Just what in the world were they thinking? What was their reason?"
Max went silent and then asked,
"Valerie, did you ever wonder, what if your parents were looking in a different direction?" His words sounded strange and she tilted her head.
"What?"
"Hear me out, okay? I thought about this some time ago because it all looked strange. Your parents loved you with all they had but something was threatening their life which they were very much aware of, so they made their will just after you were born." She nodded.
Yes, she got that part. Her uncle was a threatening force but couldn’t they have done something about it? Was it due to a lack of evidence?
"Valerie, that threatening force didn’t necessarily have to be your uncle." He said which shocked her.
She blinked twice and then shook her head.
"What’s that?"
"What if there was something else that was capable of making your parents shake in fear? That force might’ve also been another reason why your parents would want to ally with Stewart and get their daughter married to me." He explained.
Well, if he put it like that, it did make sense but if that was true then who were these secret forces?
The only people strong enough to pose a threat to Ross was Stewart and they were very much on friendly terms so... Who?
"Your uncle couldn’t have taken out your parents and gotten Ross Corp with his own power." Max stated. "So, I deduce that whoever was posing a threat to your family, proposed a corporation with your uncle and that’s how he was able to get that far in his schemes."
Valerie’s heart started beating strangely. Hearing this come from Max... It was very plausible. This could’ve been the missing piece she was looking for all along.
This threat... There was no way she could’ve thought about it. All along, she thought her uncle was the mastermind but thinking about it now... He wasn’t that smart and didn’t even have enough resources at the time to have planned that accident without any loopholes.
And he was loyal too. He didn’t slip out any clue that would point them in another direction and died with his mouth sealed.
That slimy bastard.
She gritted her teeth and clenched her fists.
"Valerie," Max called, placing his hand on hers. "I didn’t tell you this so you could worry. I only did it to assure you that your parents did indeed love you wholeheartedly. They did not jump into death knowing they would leave you alone to suffer."
"Max."
"And it’s all just my speculation. We don’t know if there is indeed a third party directing everything behind the scenes. But know that if there was indeed one, they would not come from this country."
Valerie closed her eyes and sighed, letting out the building frustration.
"You’re right." She swiped her hair back. "And unless they strike first, there’s no way to know who they are, so we can only ’wait’."
Max patted her head and smiled.
"Yes, that’s what we’ll do."
Though they wanted to gloss it over, for now, both were a bit worried. If there was indeed someone behind the scenes then this peace that they finally found would not last as much as they wished.
And if the person or people behind the scenes were so dangerous that Ross needed to join forces with Stewart then they were definitely worth worrying over.
And for this, Max decided to take it up with his grandfather. Knowing Max might do such a thing, Valerie decided to take it up with his mother.
She was certain her mother’s best friend would have a little clue as to who those people were, considering they had a good relationship.
And she could also use this opportunity to learn more about her mother and possibly how she met her father.
Yes, they would do that.
"What are you thinking of right now when I’m the only one in front of you?" Max asked.
"Well, I’m thinking if I should just give the company to Mariam." She smiled awkwardly and Max’s frown gave her an answer. "Haha, I thought so."
"No matter how good she is at managing the company, she’s still a kid and I would like her to enjoy her childhood slash college life as much as she can. Having the company under her name would only tie her down." He explained.
"Yeah, I thought as much."
Mariam was excellent at what she did. She was great at decision-making for a girl of her age. She was level-headed and did not allow anyone’s words to influence her choices and judgment.
If she was unsure of the decision she was about to make, she would take it up with Max and if he wasn’t available, she would take it up with her grandfather.
She knew how to use the powerful people behind her to clear up problems that she felt would be troublesome and of course, she started getting famous because of it.
It wasn’t their intention to let the public know that Mariam was the one behind the chair currently but it got out somehow and she was getting quite the attention.
Many speculated that Valerie Ross was going to hand over her company to her sister-in-law for certain reasons and that Ross would be owned by Stewart.
Well, they weren’t exactly wrong. Valerie did plan to give the company to her but that wasn’t going to work out, but it would inevitably belong to Stewart with time.
She didn’t plan on running the company anyway.
All she wanted to do was sit at home, relax, and read romance novels. And when her extremely handsome husband was home, she’d embrace him with all she had, allowing him to whisper sweet nothingness into her ears as he drove her to the height of ecstasy.
That was the life she wished to have and nothing more.
