Chapter 114: Oh this, it’s just my research material

Valerie woke up after an exhausting night, to find Max sitting next to her. He had a book in hand and quite the pair of sexy spectacles rearing on his nose bridge.

She blinked her eyes and looked towards the window. The curtains were drawn in but she could see light trying to sip in from the corners.

’It’s probably morning.’ she thought. Yet, the idea of getting out of bed did not please her.

Max noticed her little movements and looked down at her, only to find her awake.

"You’re awake." He said, placing down the book. "Did you sleep well? How do you feel? Does your back hurt? Any discomfort?"

He showered her with questions of concern that she could not help but stare at him with affectionate eyes. This man... Did he forget he was the one who got out of control? As if three times in the car wasn’t enough, he went another extra three after getting back.

He wasn’t kidding when he said he could lose control and hurt her. This was what she brought upon herself. She just had to tempt him so much.

But, oh well, they would’ve gotten to that stage sometime in the future. She just hastened it up a bit.

"Valerie?" Max asked and she smiled, but the moment she opened her mouth to speak, her voice sounded so different that she did not say a complete word. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

"I...," she blinked, confused. Was that really her voice? What happened?

Max chuckled.

"It would seem to me that you cracked your voice with all the moans you were letting out last night." He said and lowered his head to kiss her forehead. "You sounded absolutely appealing."

Valerie immediately reached for a pillow and hit him with it. He laughed and moved his face away before doing whatever was on his mind.

"I get it, I brought this upon myself." She said and clung on to his arm. "So that’s why I’m the only one suffering."

"I warned you." He said and laughed once more, amused at the sight. "Are you hungry?"

"Yes, but... I don’t want to get out of bed." She said.

"That’s not a problem." Max said and picked up his phone. "I wasn’t planning on letting you leave anyway." He smirked.

He looked so good. No, wait. What? That smirk.

"W-what? You’re not planning to..."

"No, no. I’m not a cruel monster that would torture his wife the next moment she woke up after all that." Max said, brushing underneath her eyes.

She felt relieved hearing that. At least, her body could recover a bit.

But just then, he added,

"I’ll save that for tonight."

Her eyes widened as she exclaimed, "What?"

Her reaction was so amusing that Max laughed once more. What? He was a growing man who had wild desires. Enduring while looking at his wife on a daily basis wasn’t easy but now that he had tasted her and felt her insides twitch around him... That feeling... How could he abstain any longer?

He would want to pounce on her at any moment.

"Yeah, she’s awake." Max said to the person on the phone. "Please bring her food up."

"What were you reading anyway?" Valerie asked, remembering he had a book in her hand.

"Oh, this?" He showed the book which happened to be a romance novel and she stared at the cover. "It’s just my research material."

"Research?" She looked at him oddly.

"You read so much of this that your mind got twisted without knowing, Valerie." Max said. "And that’s why you have this side that I could’ve never imagined."

"O-oh." She slowly darted her eyes aside, knowing fully well that she was guilty. "Is that so?"

"Yes, and you know it."

"Then, why are you reading that?" She asked him. "You’re already twisted as it is."

"Well, I’ll need a way to handle my twisted wife, won’t I?"

"You’re twisted too." She muttered and then, he took her hand kissed it, and said,

"Valerie, no matter how many times I see you, no matter how many days I spend with you, my affection never wanes and my heart can never beat less hard than it does. I’ll stick around you like birds stick to trees. So, no matter where you are, I will find you." His words were sweet but... She found it a bit out of the novel kind of thing.

Yet, it felt so nice hearing him confess like that. It was like the novel had come to life. Wait, the novel.

No wonder she felt those lines were familiar, she had read it before.

"Max, I’m not a very strong person but I promise to be your ride or die. I’ll always stand by your side and... When you glance over your shoulder, I’ll be the first person you see."

Valerie responded with a sweet smile. Though she was just repeating the words from the female lead, her heart genuinely meant it all.

"Valerie, don’t tell me... You’ve read the book?" He asked, dumbfounded but Valerie said,

"No, Max. I was just responding in the same manner any girl who got confessed like that would." She said and fluttered her eyelashes. "But of course, I’ve read the book." She added and laughed.

"Christ, what are the odds?" He shoved his fingers through his hair and swiped it back, looking down at her with eyes that devoured.

"Well, I was a jobless villainess. What do you think I did with all my free time?" She chuckled. "Frankie got a lot of them for me and I got to learn a lot from them."

"And I’m guessing that includes your sultry and seductive character." He said with a raised eyebrow.

"Well, not exactly." She said but she could not say more about it.

The fact that she felt twisted from the moment she met him, back when they were in high school, should not be known to anyone.

Though, at that time, it was only a little bit. So yeah, the books contributed a lot to her twisted and lewd mindset.

Then, she noticed Max staring at her like he wanted to kiss her. She gulped. Seriously, hadn’t he had enough?

She was still lying down because she could not feel her waist properly but here he was, having the look of a hungry beast in his eyes.

"Wife, why are you so alluring?"

He leaned down, ready to kiss her. Their lips were only an inch apart when a knock broke the silver line drawing them close.

"Haah," Max exclaimed and covered Valerie completely with the blanket. "Come in."

"Pardon my intrusion," Jeremy said as he walked in with a maid, who had Valerie’s food in hand. "Good afternoon sir, your food is here."
