Chapter 107: Will she have her face covered the whole time?

Max was able to put Valerie to sleep without any incident. After taking her medicine, she grew tired and went straight to bed.

He watched her as she slept and kissed the locks of her hair. She smelled sweet. Her scent was intoxicating and it took a lot out of him to not get hard. But the thoughts of her sleeping next to him made his little boy stand erect.

"I’m not a beast." He muttered to himself, watching Valerie sleep soundly.

Suddenly, as he stared at her, a text flashed through his mind.

’Take the revenge out of the lady and what’s left is sweetness, huh?’ he thought and closed his eyes. ’Well, the sweetness is not so bad.’

Then, Valerie turned and reached out to hug him.

He held her chin and stared at her face as if searching for a hidden text and then laughed.

"You innocently crawl your way into a lion’s den. What should I make of that?" He looked amused. "I can never get tired of looking at your face." He said and kissed her lips softly. He didn’t go any further than that. "I love you, Valerie, with everything within me. Hating you was difficult. It did me no good anyway, and I’m glad it was all a misunderstanding. So now, I’ll use everything I have to love you and only you." He kissed her forehead and buried her head in his chest.

Valerie, who seemed to have heard his confession, felt her heartbeat accelerating so she tried everything to put it under control if not he’d discover she was awake, not that it was a bad thing.

’Why is he saying those words while I’m asleep?’ Valerie thought. ’I... I love you too, Max. I’ll use everything I have to love you from now on. Everything.’

They slept soundly in each other’s arms and the next day, they got ready to watch Lucy’s execution.

Valerie dressed in a white dress and so did Max. He simply wore something to match his wife and proudly strolled in with her.

The camera’s attention was fixed on them as they walked in but they could not approach because of the guards that were trouping in from behind.

Safety measures were a must.

"Have a seat." Max said, leading her to sit and she nodded.

"Thank you." She looked up and scanned the area. There were more people than she anticipated.

"The prisoner will now be brought in." A policeman announced and everyone turned their attention to the inner door where Lucy would be brought in.

The door opened and showed the prisoner wearing an orange jail uniform, her hands cuffed and a sack covering her head.

One could only assume it was Lucy since she was the only one being executed today.

"Will she have her face covered the whole time?" Valerie asked and Max nodded.

"It seems to be how it’s done." He said. "Why? Do you want to see her face while she face death?"

Valerie thought about it but ended up shaking her head.

"No need." She said and peered at the scene.

It was probably just her imagination, but why did she feel like something was not right?

She glanced around and then back to Max.

"Is something wrong?" Max asked, seeing her sudden uneasiness.

"No. I’m just like this for no reason." She said and raised her head. "I hope I’m just being paranoid for nothing."

Lucy was placed on the electric chair and connected with a bunch of wires. She was so docile that it became even more suspicious.

She had expected her to retaliate or go mad like she did during the hearing but she was being so compliant that her uneasiness grew.

Max slipped his hand into hers and leaned forward.

"Do you want to put it on hold?" He whispered. "We can check to make sure it’s her."

But Valerie shook her head and said,

"There’s no one on her side." She said. "I don’t want to bring up unnecessary news with my paranoia."

"Really?" He smiled. "For someone who had no problem having her name and image roll around in the mud, you’re awfully concerned about your reputation." He said and she laughed.

"That’s not it." She said and her laughter died down as she lowered her head.

Just then, someone walked into the place and stopped in front of the couple who were talking.

They both raised their gaze to see who it was, only to see Steven. He was dressed casually, in black clothes and a black nose mask, but his silver hair and bright face were enough to draw attention to himself.

Max frowned.

"What are you doing here?" He asked, and Steven pulled down his nose mask.

"Ayo, I’m just here to watch the execution." He said, but that did not make him look any less suspicious. "And also," he glanced down at Valerie with a mischievous look in his eyes. "I came to remind this beautiful lady that i am still in possession of what belongs to her."

"She’s my wife, so know how you address her." Max glared at him but Steven only saw it as a nice thing.

He looked around, there were eyes on them. Well, that was good. Now, he had all the attention on them.

"Sure, sure." He said, bringing his gaze back to them. "You two are ’happily’ married." The corners of his lips curled up and he added. "Was that also a clause in your contract or did you decide to forget about it?"

As soon as he said this, Valerie’s gaze grew sharp and she glared daggers at him. How did he know of the contract? No, more importantly, what was he hoping to gain from talking about it in the open and here of all places?

He wasn’t being clear enough to stir up rumors and he was not acting hostile towards either of them so what did he want?

"Snake." Valerie muttered, her red eyes boring into him and his expression stiffened. He wass so close to frowning but he kept his fake smile up and said,

"Well, I guess that will do for plesentaries." He said and tucked his hands in his hoodie pockets.

He turned around and started heading towards the other end of the hall.

"Oh, do try to visit me sometime. I would really like to return your belonging."

"Just get rid of it." Valerie said without hesitation and folded her arms.

He glanced over his shoulder at her and as if knowing something, he said,

"Sure. I’ll throw away your ’memories’."
