Chasing The Vengeful Villainous Heiress-Chapter 108: I finally avenged you, Frankie
Valerie tapped her finger on her folded arm, thinking of what Steven said.
What did he want? What did he hope to gain by getting involved with her? Why was he so concerned about her business?
She glanced over at him at the extreme end. What was his purpose?!
Her phone wasn’t a big deal and the things inside were already replicated and transferred to her laptop so she didn’t care if he kept it or not.
But she had a feeling he was trying to pass on a message by saying ’memories’.
"If he tries anything," she heard Max mutter and turned her head to find him with this grin expression. "... I’ll kill him."
She patted his back and said,
"Let’s calm down for now."
She once again turned her attention to Steven.
There was only one thing she could garner from his actions and that was that he was trying to use her to get to Max. The only real competition he had in this competition for the position of Chairman.
’But how did he know about the contract?’
"Valerie," Max called, gripping her hand a bit tightly. "... Don’t go to him. Forget about the phone."
"I’m not interested in the phone, Max." Valerie said. "I’m just wondering why he publicly approached me like this."
"Just stop thinking of him." Max stated, looking worried. "Don’t let him occupy your mind. You should only have me in your mind. Only me."
Valerie blinked and then sighed.
"You’re so jealous." She muttered and interlocked her fingers with his. "Don’t worry. I’ll get him out of my head right away."
But only a minute after she said this, she turned her attention to Steven, feeling his gaze and found him glaring at her.
He immediately snapped out of it and smiled like nothing happened before turning his attention to the stage in front.
With this, Valerie was able to confirm that he indeed had some sort of hostility against them, if not just her. She felt it was directed at her, though. But it could’ve just been a misunderstanding.
The execution finally started and Lucy was electrocuted on the chair till she was at her last breath. She struggled on the chair as the electric current coursed through her entire body, but never let out a single sound.
Reasons could be because she was gagged but no one knew for sure since her head was covered with a sackcloth from the moment she arrived.
After about half an hour, she finally stopped shaking. A specialist was brought forward to check her and confirm that she was dead.
"Lucy Ross, age 25. Born 19xx, May 10th and died 20xx, June 29th. Died through execution by electric shock."
The document was recorded and Valerie finally gave out a sigh of relief.
’It’s over.’ she thought and rubbed her eyes. ’I finally got back at them. I finally avenged you, Frankie... Madam Nazar. I finally did it.’
She kept rubbing her eyes and Max grabbed her hand, fearing that she was crying but when he moved her hand away, there were no tears.
"What’s wrong?" Valerie asked Max, who shook his head and took out a handkerchief from his pocket.
"Don’t rub your eyes like that." He said. "It’s only going to sting more."
He cleaned her eyes and she sniffed, causing him to stop.
"Valerie," he called. "Are you...?"
"I’m happy." Valerie said and held his hand against her face, keeping the handkerchief on her eyes. "I’m so happy right now, Max. It’s to the extent that I feel my eyes tearing up."
Max went silent. He hated this. He gritted his teeth and looked up to make sure no one was watching his wife in her vulnerable state.
There were a few reporters who were trying to get them on camera but he snapped his fingers and a few of his guards escorted them out.
The hall was already getting empty as they had already witnessed Lucy Ross’ execution.
He let Valerie be, keeping the handkerchief on her eyes and glared if anyone tried to look at her.
"My, my, you look like you’ll flood the place." They heard Steven say, and Max frowned bitterly. "Oh my, do you want to kill me? You can’t do that here, though. You’ll get sanctioned by the authorities and we can’t have that, can we?"
Valerie dropped Max’s hand and turned to glare at Steven.
"What do you want? Spit it out." He said.
"So direct." Steven smiled and shook his head. "But I’m not here to do anything, as you can see. But I do have some advice for you." He got closer but Max threatened to take out the gun from his inner coat.
"Put it away, Max." Valerie said and eyed the policemen that were in place and then at the reporters who were still lurking around. "Is this what you wanted?" She asked, returning her gaze to him. "Do you want to push my husband to act like a killer?"
"Such accusations. I’m so hurt." He feigned pain and then laughed. "But like I said, I’m only here to give you my honest advice."
He crouched his back and said, his eyes glowing with heavy ambition and with every word that came out of his mouth, a threat was detected.
"Watch you back." He said. "You may think you have it all now but you’re about to lose everything."
"What?"
He stepped away just before Max swung a punch at his face, luckily avoiding what could’ve been a fatal blow.
"Haha, that was close." He said. "If I didn’t know any better, I would’ve assumed you were trying to ruin my face because you were so jealous of me getting close to your wife." He said and squinted his eyes in mischief. ’It makes me sick.’
"I told you," Max got up from his chair. "Don’t you dare get close to my wife."
Steven went silent and then tilted his head, and provoked him.
"And what if I don’t?"
"That’s it."
"Max." Valerie called in a solemn tone and Max looked down at her. She had this deadly look in her eyes as she stared at Steven.
He gritted his teeth and sat down.
"Do you want to go against us?" Valerie asked. "I understand that you’re involved in the fight for the chairman position but is this how you want to fight?"
"Don’t bring that up." Steven said and started cackling. "This and that are different."
Valerie squinted her eyes.
"Is that so?" She got up and faced Steven. "Listen up pretty boy, I don’t know what your motive is but you need to state your motives if you want to play in this game."
"But I’m not the player here." He said, shrugging his shoulders. "I’m just the planner."
They both went silent for almost a minute and Valerie responded by saying,
"I see." She folded her arms, giving her serious stance and said, "Then I would like to assume that your ’honest’ advice was a warning to what you’re about to do?" She asked. "And that you want to take a life in the course of it?"
"That is correct." He said and laughed. "You’re quite smart. So I’ll simply assume that you know how to take caution in this game, because I won’t warn you twice." He started leaving. "Enjoy the peace while it lasts, sister-in-law."
They watched him as he left and Valerie shook her head before sighing.
"Just when I thought peace was here, it’s one problem after another. What the hell is he planning?"
