Chaos Devourer System: My Classless Ascension-Chapter 62 - 61:Tower Of Ascension
The excitement around me was palpable...
The moment Valen had declare the trials open, I could feel the rush that overtook the whole crowds...
"OOHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!"
The stage shook violently from the sound of their voice...
"Alright then, before the start of the first trial"
The surroundings quieted down at the sound of his voice..
"The building behind me" he pointed towards the solarium spire, "has been repurposed, it will act as the venue of your next tests"... 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
"The spire is the venue?"
"Did anyone hear about that?"
The confused mumors of the crowd around me told me enough to know that this was new, even to those who were supposed to be in the know...
"Silence!" Valen’s voice silenced the group of agitated youths..
"In a few moments, you will be teleported inside, there you’ll be notified of the rules of the current stage" he concluded his speech..
Before anyone could bother to think of asking questions, the entire platform housing the participants lit up like the Fourth of July and then just like that..
Wap!!!
The entire place was devoid of participants..
**********
I suddenly found myself in a forest where towering trees reached for the sky, their branches interwoven to form a living canopy above me. The leaves here weren’t just green. No! they shimmered in a kaleidoscope of emerald, sapphire, and amethyst, and I could swear some of them glowed faintly with an inner brilliance. Fine, delicate vines drape between the trunks, adorned with flowers that bloom in impossible shades of crimson and gold, their petals unfurling to reveal intricate patterns that drew my gaze unconsciously.
The ground beneath my feet was a tapestry of soft, phosphorescent moss that pulsed gently with light, illuminating strange and beautiful fungi in vibrant hues. Giant ferns unfurl in spirals of shimmering green, and every so often, I catch a glimpse of crystalline dew drops clinging to spiderwebs, refracting the magical light into tiny rainbows. The air itself felt alive, carrying the scent of sweet blossoms and damp earth, with a faint, melodic hum that seemed to emanate from the very heart of this magnificent foliage. It truly was a breathtaking sight...
Yet before I could get too drawn into it, valen’s voice interrupted me..
"Welcome, participants, to your first tests"
"The place you currently find yourselves, is a makeshift of the tower of ascension"
The words Tower Of Ascension sent a jolt through my spine..
"What!?" I couldn’t stop the exclamation that ripped right through me...
THAT tower of ascension?
"Yes, the very same one you’re all thinking about" almost as if he could hear my doubts, valen’s voice sounded once more..
"Woah!!!"..
The tower of ascension. That was a name everyone, no matter where you were on terra, knew of..
Why? Because it was located at the very heart of the continent..
But no, that shouldn’t be the only reason it’s known, after all, many people don’t even know what exists outside their own domains let alone the center of the planet..
The tower was unique because it was the only construct visible to all from all over the planet..
It didn’t matter where you were, it didn’t matter if it was the literal other side of the planet, the tower of ascension was visible as clear as day...
The Tower of Ascension wasn’t merely tall; it was an inescapable truth of this world. No matter where you stood, from the highest peaks to the deepest valleys, or even across the vast, rolling oceans, it was there. Always. A colossal, dark pillar piercing the endless sky, its summit forever lost in a crown of swirling clouds. It defies all logic, appearing just as sharp and distinct whether it should be directly overhead or literally on the opposite side of the planet. It’s a constant, silent presence, a universal landmark that felt less like a building and more like a fixed point in existence itself. Its ancient, unknown material seems to absorb all light, yet outlines it with an impossible clarity against any horizon. It was the one thing everyone on the planet shares, this distant, ever-present sentinel, a monumental question mark carved into the very fabric of our shared reality.
It appeared an untold number of years ago, right at the point in time when terrans finally brokered a peace treaty with the demons..
No one knew much about the tower itself, either that, or they weren’t willing to share, regardless, it was of monumental significance that we were using a something modeled from that legendary landmark as the first test...
I was getting excited..
"The tower of ascension has 999 floors, but for this test, you’ll be making use of the first 100"
"The rules are this, each floor cleared rewards you with 100 points, the goal is to climb as high as possible."
"With each floor getting progressively more difficult, it is advised that you assess your level and ability before deciding to progress."
"Once a floor is challenged, you must either clear it, or die trying, there are no safety nets."
"Only the top 1000 participants will be qualified to move onto the next round of the trials, holding back will only be detrimental."
"The test will last for exactly 24 hours , that’s all the amount of time you have to climb as high as you possibly can.."
"So without further ado, the stage is yours, the world is watching, I wish you best of luck"
"You may begin"
As the sound of the overseer’s voice faded, I heard a rustling noise from the shrubs nearby, i readied myself..
But the thing that greeted me almost brough a nostalgic smile to my face..
Green skin. Taut muscles. 6ft mass of ugliness in true form..
The creature before me was one I was quite acquainted with..
[Common]<Hobgoblin Warrior(E)>..
...
"The tower of ascension? Are they really going to use something like that for such a thing at this stage?" Clarissa couldn’t help voicing out her confusion..
"It’s not the real tower, just like valen said, it’s merely a projection of the tower unto the solarium spire and other venues"
"Besides, how else do you expect them to chop down the ridiculous number of participants without something this like this.." came Raven’s voice as her gaze remained steady on the screen before her.
"I guess you’re right. Oh it’s starting.."
A leaderboard had appeared on the screen, one displaying the current top 1000 participants, those that would be qualifying for the next stage..
"How do you think Dante will perform" Clarissa asked..
"Hehe.. just watch and see, the world is about to be shocked speechless"..
Back within the tower..
"Heh.. a hobgoblin eyy?"
That works just fine, what better way to start my journey proper, than the very thing that set me off in the first place..
"Alright big guy, let’s do this"
I cranked my neck..
This was going to be fun..
