Chapter 59: 59. Luri wants to kill Isaac

Luri’s eyes shot open as the faint creak of her window echoed through her quiet bedroom. Her instincts kicked in immediately—this was not the first time someone had tried sneaking into her room. She swiftly reached under her pillow and grabbed the knife she kept for emergencies. Without hesitation, she threw it toward the window with pinpoint accuracy.

"Whoa!" Isaac barely managed to duck, the blade whizzing just above his head and embedding itself into the window frame.

Luri sat up on her bed, glaring daggers at Isaac. "What the hell do you think you’re doing, Isaac?!" she growled, her voice sharp enough to cut through the silence of the night.

Isaac peeked back over the windowsill, flashing a smug grin. "Just thought I’d drop by. Window’s quicker than the door, isn’t it?" he teased as he swung a leg over the ledge, hopping down into her room.

Luri huffed in annoyance, but before Isaac could fully stand, she lunged at him, grabbing a fistful of his hair. "You idiot! That could’ve killed you!"

Isaac yelped, quickly retaliating by pulling her long hair in return. "Hey! It’s not my fault you’ve got terrible aim!"

The two of them bickered loudly, wrestling in the dim moonlight, tugging at each other’s hair like children. Luri’s eyes were blazing with fury, and Isaac, though grinning, was trying to get the upper hand in the ridiculous fight.

"You know, this is why I avoid coming to your place," Isaac complained, wincing as Luri yanked hard on his hair.

"Then stay away!" Luri shot back, tightening her grip.

"Never!" Isaac declared with dramatic flair, tugging harder on Luri’s hair.

Just as they were about to get louder, a voice boomed from outside. "Would you two SHUT UP? Some of us are trying to sleep!" a frustrated neighbor yelled through the thin walls of the apartment building.

Luri and Isaac froze, realizing how much noise they’d been making. The room went dead silent for a beat. They exchanged guilty looks before quickly letting go of each other’s hair.

"Great," Luri muttered under her breath, standing up and straightening her clothes. "You’re so loud. What do you want this time, anyway?"

Isaac rubbed the back of his head, pretending as if he hadn’t just been in a hair-pulling fight. "Come on, let’s head to the living room. I didn’t climb through a window just to stay in your bedroom."

Luri sighed in exasperation but relented. They made their way down the hallway in awkward silence, still nursing the remnants of their silly fight. Isaac shot her a mischievous smirk as they sat in the living room, but Luri wasn’t having any of it.

"Okay, now talk," Luri demanded, sitting with her arms crossed.

Isaac shrugged nonchalantly, glancing around the room. "I just needed a break from the hospital drama. Lucas slapped me again today. This time in front of Adrian and Ethan. Can you believe that?"

Luri raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. "Can’t say I blame him. You probably deserved it."

Isaac leaned back with a sigh. "Yeah, yeah, everyone keeps saying that." He tilted his head, observing Luri. "You sure know how to throw a knife though. That was impressive."

She rolled her eyes but couldn’t suppress a smirk. "Flattery won’t get you anywhere, Isaac. But thanks."

They sat in silence for a moment, the earlier tension melting away. Despite their bickering, the strange friendship between them was clear.

Meanwhile, in the Levistis manor, excitement buzzed through the halls. Augustin was nearly bursting with energy as he paced back and forth in the living room, unable to contain his enthusiasm about Adrian and Ethan’s impending parenthood. The news of the twins had spread through the manor like wildfire, and everyone was buzzing with anticipation.

"They’re going to be so adorable!" Augustin said for what seemed like the hundredth time that day. "I’m already picturing their little faces!"

Leclair, who was sitting nearby with his legs propped up on the coffee table, chuckled softly. "You’ve been thinking about those babies non-stop, Augustin. I don’t think you’ve talked about anything else for weeks."

"Of course! How could I not?" Augustin shot back, his face lighting up with excitement. "Ethan and Adrian are going to be such amazing parents. I just know it!"

Leclair nodded in agreement, though his usual calm demeanor remained intact. "I have no doubt. Adrian’s been through so much, but he’s handled it all with such grace. And Ethan... well, he’s a fighter. They’ll be great."

Augustin grinned. "Exactly! And I can’t wait to spoil those little ones. I’ve already bought so many gifts."

Leclair smirked. "You’re going to spoil them rotten, aren’t you?"

"I’m going to be the best uncle ever," Augustin declared proudly, puffing out his chest.

The two shared a laugh, the atmosphere in the manor warm and filled with love. Despite all the chaos and uncertainty that had surrounded their lives in recent months, there was something undeniably special about the thought of new life coming into their family.

Later that night, after the house had quieted down, Ethan and Adrian found themselves sitting together in their bedroom. The soft glow of the moonlight filtered through the curtains, casting a gentle light on their faces.

Adrian leaned back against the pillows, his hand resting on his swollen belly. "It’s hard to believe that in just a few weeks, we’ll finally meet them," he said softly, a dreamy smile on his face.

Ethan, sitting beside him, gently took Adrian’s hand in his. "Yeah. I still can’t wrap my head around it sometimes. Our little family is going to grow so much."

Adrian chuckled, his silver eyes twinkling with joy. "Have you thought about names any more? We need to pick something soon."

Ethan grinned, leaning closer....

Luri lounged on the couch, her sharp gaze fixed on Isaac as he paced in front of her, clearly irritated. He had just finished recounting the latest drama between him and Lucas, and Luri, sitting cross-legged with her arms folded, watched him with amusement.

"So," she said, her voice laced with teasing. "You’re telling me that you’ve decided to suddenly marry Lucas? Out of nowhere?" She leaned back, eyes twinkling with mock disbelief.

Isaac stopped his pacing, glancing at her with a mix of frustration and exasperation. "It’s not out of nowhere, Luri."

Luri burst out laughing, throwing her head back. "Right, right. The same Isaac who couldn’t commit to a pair of shoes is now going to marry a man he barely even shows affection to?" She waved a hand, still chuckling. "You expect me to believe that?"

Isaac frowned, rubbing his temples as if to keep his patience. "It’s more complicated than that. The old geezers at the Shaw family are trying to use me as a pawn. They want me to marry Sebanil’s youngest daughter—who, by the way, is in a coma." He shook his head, clearly disgusted by the idea.

Luri stopped laughing and raised an eyebrow. "They want you to marry someone in a coma? That’s messed up, even by your family’s standards."

"Exactly!" Isaac threw his hands in the air. "So I told them I already had a lover and that I’m getting married in a month."

Luri’s mouth dropped open. "You WHAT?" She stood up, incredulous. "You told them you’re getting married? To Lucas?"

Isaac crossed his arms, nodding firmly. "Yeah. I needed a way out of their ridiculous plan, and Lucas was the most convenient option."

Luri shook her head in disbelief, her lips curling into a smirk. "So let me get this straight—your grand plan is to drag Lucas into this mess just so you don’t have to marry coma girl?"

Isaac shrugged, acting nonchalant. "Lucas gets something out of this too."

Luri snorted. "And what exactly does he get? A marriage of convenience with you?"

Isaac smirked, his eyes glinting mischievously. "I told him I’d find his younger brother for him. He’s been looking for that kid for years. I can pull a few strings and make it happen."

Luri gaped at him, then burst into laughter again. "Oh, so this isn’t just you playing with his feelings, it’s full-on blackmail! You’re unbelievable, Isaac."

Isaac frowned and sat down beside her, clearly irritated. "It’s not blackmail. It’s... a mutual benefit arrangement. He wants to find his brother. I need to get out of marrying some random woman. Win-win."

Luri rolled her eyes. "That’s the worst kind of reasoning I’ve ever heard. You can’t just marry someone to get out of a situation and then dangle their most personal wish in front of them like it’s some kind of bargaining chip!"

Isaac crossed his arms, huffing. "I’m not playing with Lucas’s feelings. It’s practical. I’ve told him already. We’re both adults."

Luri shook her head in exasperation, leaning back into the couch. "And what did Lucas say? Did he agree to this little plan of yours?"

Isaac paused, the silence answering for him.

Luri let out a laugh, crossing her arms over her chest. "So you haven’t even gotten him to agree, and you’re out here acting like this is some genius idea? You’re seriously the worst."

"I will get him to agree," Isaac snapped, looking defensive. "He’s reasonable. And it’s not like I’m asking him for anything ridiculous. We’ll both get what we want."

Luri sighed deeply, rubbing her forehead. "Isaac, you really need to stop with this manipulation. Lucas is a good guy. You shouldn’t drag him into your family’s mess."

Isaac glared at her. "You think I want to be stuck in this mess? You think I enjoy being a pawn in their stupid games?" He leaned forward, his tone sharper. "I’m doing this to protect myself. I’m not about to let them control my life."

Luri softened a little, understanding Isaac’s frustration, but still shook her head. "I get that. But this isn’t the way. You’re going to ruin things with Lucas, and maybe even lose him as a friend."

Isaac’s expression faltered for a second before he quickly recovered, putting on his usual smirk. "I’ll figure it out. I always do."

"Sure," Luri muttered sarcastically, standing up from the couch and stretching. "But if I were you, I’d stop pulling other people’s hair into your mess." She walked toward the kitchen, her tone more serious. "You might not get out of it this time."

Isaac followed her with his eyes, frowning but silent. He hated to admit it, but Luri might have a point. Still, what choice did he have? The Shaw family was relentless, and the Sebanils were powerful. If he didn’t make a move soon, he could end up trapped in a life he didn’t want.
