Chapter 58: 58. Names.

Ethan and Adrian sat in the car, cruising down the highway towards Lucas’s hospital. The soft hum of the engine was the only sound for a while, but Ethan could sense the excitement bubbling just beneath the surface. Adrian was already eight months pregnant, and today, they were going to find out the projected due date for their twins. The anticipation was palpable, and even though Adrian was visibly tired, his face glowed with happiness.

Ethan glanced over, his hand resting on the steering wheel. "So," he began with a small smile, "have you thought about names for the babies?"

Adrian looked at him with a soft chuckle, his hand rubbing his swollen belly gently. "I’ve thought of a few. I was thinking maybe something meaningful, with a history behind it."

Ethan’s smile grew. "What kind of names?"

"Well..." Adrian hesitated, clearly deep in thought. "For a boy, I was thinking about ’Aurelius.’ It means ’the golden one,’ and it just feels... strong, you know?"

Ethan nodded, his eyes flickering with approval. "Aurelius. That’s a good one. It’s noble."

"And for a girl," Adrian continued, "maybe ’Seraphina.’ It means ’fiery’ or ’burning one.’ I like the idea of her being strong and independent, someone who stands out."

"Seraphina," Ethan repeated softly, savoring the name. "I love it. Seraphina Levistis. Sounds perfect."

They both fell into a comfortable silence for a few moments, imagining their future children and the life they were building together. It was peaceful, despite the chaos they had recently been through.

"You know," Ethan added thoughtfully, "we’re going to be raising two kids at the same time. Are we ready for that?"

Adrian smiled, his fingers absentmindedly tracing the curve of his belly. "I think so. I mean, it’s going to be a lot of work, but we have each other. And besides, I’ve always wanted a big family. These babies are our future."

Ethan nodded, feeling a swell of warmth in his chest. "Aurelius and Seraphina. They’re going to be amazing, just like you."

Adrian’s eyes softened as he looked at Ethan. "They’ll be amazing because they’ll have you as their father."

Ethan leaned over briefly, pressing a quick kiss to Adrian’s temple before focusing back on the road. "We’ll make sure they have the best life possible."

As they pulled into the hospital parking lot and made their way inside, Ethan’s thoughts were still on their conversation, the names they had chosen, and the future they were so eagerly awaiting. But the moment they reached Lucas’s office, their tranquil mood was abruptly shattered.

Through the slightly ajar door, they saw something they didn’t expect—Isaac was kissing Lucas. Adrian gasped quietly, and Ethan’s brows shot up in surprise.

"What the...?" Ethan whispered, nudging Adrian gently so they could both see.

Lucas didn’t seem to be returning Isaac’s affections. In fact, he was pushing Isaac away with all his strength. The next moment, Lucas slapped Isaac hard across the face, the sound echoing in the room.

"Get lost!" Lucas shouted, his voice filled with anger. His face was flushed, his chest rising and falling rapidly.

Isaac, however, didn’t seem fazed at all. Instead, he smirked and caught Lucas’s wrist, pulling him into his arms with a firm but gentle grip. "You’re cute when you’re mad, Lucas," Isaac teased, his tone dripping with arrogance. He patted Lucas’s back, his movements almost possessive, like a husband trying to calm an upset spouse.

Lucas’s face twisted in a mix of disbelief and rage. "Let me go, Isaac!" he demanded, struggling against Isaac’s hold. "I’m not some toy for you to play with!"

Adrian and Ethan stood frozen outside the door, staring in shock.

"What’s going on in there?" Adrian whispered, his hand subconsciously resting on his belly. "Since when is Isaac interested in Lucas?"

Ethan shook his head, equally baffled. "I have no idea. Isaac never mentioned anything about Lucas before."

They both exchanged a look, silently agreeing that whatever was happening between Isaac and Lucas was... strange. Not wanting to intrude on the awkward situation any further, they quietly stepped back from the door and retreated to the waiting area just outside the office. The low hum of the hospital provided a contrasting calm to the whirlwind they had just witnessed.

Sitting down, Adrian glanced at Ethan, his eyes wide with confusion. "Do you think Isaac’s serious about Lucas? I mean, it didn’t look like Lucas was too happy about it..."

Ethan let out a sigh, leaning back in his chair. "Knowing Isaac, it’s probably more of a game for him. But... that kiss didn’t seem like a joke."

Adrian bit his lip, concern flickering in his eyes. "Lucas didn’t look like he was enjoying it at all. He seemed furious. Isaac can’t just force his feelings on someone like that."

Ethan crossed his arms, his expression darkening slightly. "Yeah, that’s Isaac for you. He’s always been the type to push boundaries and do whatever he wants. But this... this is different. I’ve never seen him act like this around anyone."

Adrian nodded slowly. "Do you think... do you think Isaac actually has feelings for Lucas?"

Ethan shrugged, clearly just as puzzled. "Who knows with Isaac? But Lucas isn’t someone you can mess with lightly. If Isaac keeps this up, he’s going to get himself into serious trouble."

Adrian frowned. "We should talk to Isaac. Maybe he doesn’t realize how much he’s upsetting Lucas."

Ethan rubbed his temples, feeling the headache of the situation building. "Yeah... we probably should. But I don’t know if Isaac will even listen. He’s too stubborn for his own good."

They sat in silence for a while, both of them trying to process the strange scene they had witnessed.

Isaac stormed out of Lucas’s office, his face noticeably red and swollen from the slap he’d received earlier. He wasn’t expecting to see Adrian and Ethan waiting just outside. For a moment, he paused, locking eyes with them, but he didn’t say anything. Instead, he just gave them a curt nod and hurriedly left the hallway, the tension from his encounter with Lucas still lingering in the air.

Adrian exchanged a quick look with Ethan, who raised a questioning brow but didn’t push for any comments. They both stood, taking a deep breath before walking into Lucas’s office. Inside, Lucas was seated at his desk, looking a bit drained but maintaining his professional demeanor as soon as they entered.

"Adrian, Ethan," Lucas greeted them, his usual calm voice tinged with fatigue. "Let’s get started."

Without addressing the elephant in the room—Isaac’s earlier presence and the chaotic kiss—the conversation quickly shifted to the medical check-up. Lucas conducted Adrian’s routine pregnancy exam with his usual thoroughness, monitoring the twins’ heartbeats, checking vitals, and discussing any concerns Adrian might have had.

After completing the check-up, Lucas leaned back in his chair, taking a look at the notes he’d written. "Well, everything looks good," he announced, his voice warm but still showing signs of underlying stress. "The twins are healthy, and I’m not seeing any complications. But given you’re already eight months along, I think we should set a due date. The 17th of next month works—how does that sound?"

Adrian smiled, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders. "That sounds perfect. It’s getting closer every day."

Ethan, who had been quietly listening, let out a small sigh of relief. "Alright, 17th. We’ll be ready. I’ll make sure we have everything in place." His hand rested protectively on Adrian’s shoulder, a soft smile playing on his lips. "I can’t believe it’s happening so soon."

Lucas nodded. "Make sure you’re prepared all the time. Babies can be unpredictable, so be ready for anything. The hospital will be on standby once we hit the final few weeks, just in case."

As the conversation wound down, Adrian and Ethan stood, getting ready to leave. Lucas, looking visibly more tired now, gave them both a small but genuine smile as he stood as well.

Just as they were about to walk out, Adrian paused at the door, his gaze softening as he glanced back at Lucas. "Hey... Lucas," he began, his voice a little more hesitant but still kind. "If you love him—if you have feelings for Isaac—talk to him. But if he’s forcing you into anything, you can tell him you don’t like him."

Lucas sighed deeply, his tired eyes betraying the weight of the situation. He offered a weary smile, a touch of sadness in his expression. "I’ve already told him, Adrian," he said softly. "I’ve told that stubborn man more times than I can count. It’s not about love for him. He’s not doing this because he cares about me, not in that way."

Ethan furrowed his brow, confused by Lucas’s response. "Then why...?"

Lucas’s smile faded slightly, his eyes lowering for a moment. "He wants to use me," he admitted quietly. "Isaac doesn’t love me, Ethan. He’s trying to leverage me to get something from the Shaw family. It’s not about me—it’s about what he thinks he can gain."

Adrian’s eyes widened in disbelief. "Use you? For what?"

Lucas shook his head, clearly reluctant to get into details. "There are things going on with the Shaw family that Isaac has his eye on. He sees me as a way to access certain resources. But I’ve told him repeatedly that I’m not interested in any of that."

Ethan clenched his jaw, his protective instincts flaring up. "And he still keeps pushing?"

Lucas’s gaze softened, though his eyes reflected the exhaustion of the situation. "Yes. He’s persistent, and in a way, I can see where he’s coming from. But... it doesn’t excuse what he’s doing."

Adrian stepped closer, his hand resting gently on Lucas’s arm. "You don’t have to deal with this alone. If you need help, we’re here."

Lucas smiled, appreciating the offer but shaking his head slightly. "Thank you, Adrian, but this is something I need to handle myself. I just... I wish Isaac would understand that I’m not a pawn in his game."

Ethan’s eyes darkened, but he kept his tone neutral. "If he keeps this up, Lucas, you know we’ll step in."

Lucas met Ethan’s gaze and gave a small nod. "I know. But I’ll try to resolve it before it comes to that."

Adrian gave Lucas a supportive smile. "Just remember, we’re always here for you. And if Isaac really cared about you, he wouldn’t try to manipulate you like this."

Lucas sighed again, rubbing his temples. "I’ll keep that in mind."

With that, Adrian and Ethan finally left the office, their minds swirling with the unexpected revelations about Isaac and Lucas. As they made their way back to the car, Ethan couldn’t help but glance at Adrian with a frown.
