Celestial Speed: Legacy-Chapter 57: Hell’s lightening
"You see this universe was created by chaos, and it created beings referred to as titans, and they reproduced and birthed those we know as gods. But years later, a cataclysmic event threatened the existence of the universe and chaos interfered, leading to many changes in the world as we know it," she explained to Henry who seemed like he was about to die of boredom
She noticed this and quirked her brows. "Oh I’m sorry, am i boring you?" she asked sarcastically with a frown.
Henry quickly farced a smile and replied. "Nope... Not all all, carry on,"
"Good, so long story short, things changed and the gods were separated to different parts of the universe, some were even erased from existence while some where born. In the end, only a few gods were left to watch over earth and the universe in general, and chaos granted them a new type of powerful element known as celestial energy. But chaos didn’t stop there, it began to give the energy to random mortals over the years, making the energy not only exclusive to the gods of the realm but also a lucky few," Felicity stated and was about to continue when Henry interrupted her
"And now we have actual gods with celestial energy who can use it to the maximum potential and then we have those that were gifted and can only use it to develop or amplify abilities," he muttered with a bored expression.
"Oh, i see you know already. He was right, the system does teach you all that you need to know," Felicity said with a smile
"Oh... I just remembered, we have those like you as well, you don’t actually have the energy but traces can be detected," Henry said with a smirk but to his suprise, Felicity wasn’t fazed.
"Good, that proves that you are actually the holder of the legacy. You can sense celestial energy," she clapped happily. But Henry just sat there, shocked.
"Wait! How did you know about the system? I can already guess that you’ve been spying on me but knowing about the system should be impossible!" he asked
Felicity’s expression immediately became serious as she replied. "That’s what’s we are talking about now, what do you think happened to the gods watching over the universe? Why do you think you even have a legacy to inherit in the first instance?" she asked
Henry shrugged his shoulders. "I don’t know, i don’t even know who the gods of the universe are. I haven’t exactly read on the myths yet, i was too busy... You know," he muttered with an awkward smile. But Felicity didn’t reciprocate the joke, the serious expression on her face didn’t falter.
"Hmm, your system should have at least told you some things by now," she said, staring deeply into Henry’s eyes.
"Yeah maybe it’s a malfunction or something, all I’ve been getting are bad news and hyped goods," Henry laughed awkwardly knowing the real reason behind not knowing some information.
"Whatever I’ll tell you," Felicity waved dismissively, Henry’s weird laughter made her uncomfortable. "After the interference of chaos, the world restarted and knew only 5 original gods that ruled and watched over all things," she began
"Athena; goddess of war, intelligence and strength,
Triton; god of the sea and all water bodies,
Kyberia; goddess of technology,
Freya; goddess of mana and magic, and the one who’s legacy you hold, Hermes; the god of speed," she listed with Henry paying close attention to every detail.
"Hmm, that’s not how i remember it in my world. Guess Miley was right, the myth here is different," he muttered to himself
Felicity cleared her throat to get Henry’s attention and continued when he looked at her. "So those were the original gods, there were some who were demigods and normal celestials but they ascended and gained titles of their own, but that’s not the important thing right now," she explained
Henry nodded in understanding. "What happened to them?" he asked
Felicity sighed deeply and her expression became even more serious and filled with slight terror. "They died," she said sharply
"Huh?" Henry was confused. "Just like that, aren’t gods supposed to be you know... Immoral?" he said
"Well when they died, they weren’t immortals anymore. They had become human and all this happened about 500 years ago," Felicity replied
"Wait! How did they become human? What killed them, a celestial virus?" he muttered with a chuckle
"If you read this world’s general mythology, it says that the gods vanished a thousand years ago and were never seen again. But what really happened is what I’m telling you, they were hunted," Felicity said with a worried expression.
"They were gods and so had many enemies over the years, but the one who caused their demise was something they had never faced before. This foe made them terrified, to the extent that they passed on their legacy and became humans in hopes of the future beholders conquering that foe," she continued
"Hold on a sec! I know where this is gonna end. Let me guess, I’ve been chosen as some hero because I received herme’s powers and now I have to do my ’Hero’ conquest and vanquish this almighty foe," Henry said sarcastically
"Not interested," he continued before Felicity could say anything. "I’m not some Percy Jackson knock off, neither am I cadmus. So why don’t you go find the rest of the other beholders and rope them into your little adventure," Henry said before standing up, seemingly about to leave.
Felicity frowned, now it was her time to be cold. "Do you think this is a joke! Do you think i even care? I’m not really a celestial so it’s not my problem or don’t you get it yet... This foe isn’t after normal humans or anyone else. It’s after you and the other gods and now that you have triggered the legacy, it will come after you," she said in a strict, loud tone making Henry shiver a bit.
"This isn’t about becoming an hero, it’s about survival as a god, because trust when I tell you that the gods fell easily at the hands of this foe," Felicity added and stood up as well, her arms crossed and her face carrying a fierce expression.
"Crap! I knew it, a power this good doesn’t come for free. Now because I received it, I’ve got a target on my back, just fucking great!" Henry exclaimed inwardly.
"But wait! Since I’m the one with the target on his back, why do you even care?" he asked suspiciously
Felicity’s frown deepened. "I told you before, i don’t. But I know a celestial who does, and he says that if you fail to defeat this foe, the previous gods had only died for nothing and... you will die as well. And if that happens, let’s just say the world would lose it’s free will," she said
Henry was conflicted, he knew how powerful Felicity was and yet she looked really terrified, she tried to cover it with a serious expression but he could see it, she was scared.
"Who exactly is this foe? Doesn’t he have a name?" he asked
"He does," Felicity replied. "And it’s not a he, it’s a It. A being of unlimited celestial energy, one who wants to eradicate all gods and celestials, it calls itself Keraunos; Hell’s lightening."
