CASSANDRA: The Unfavored Princess-Chapter 157: Someone She Knew
Lord Bentham came into the room in a hurry.
He knocked on the door as he waited for someone from the inside to open it. The first person that came into his view was the fifth Princess’s lady in waiting.
Amy’s gaze was filled with questions. She did not know why Lord Bentham would be here at this time. "Lord?"
Lord Bentham smiled as he entered the room and closed the door. "Where is the Princess?"
Amy raised her eyebrows as she looked back before answering the Lord. "She is inside."
"Is Aiden here as well?" Lord Bentham said as he took a step inside but the answer was not given by Amy.
"Yes, I am." Duke Salvador said as he raised his eyebrows at Achard Bentham. "Why are you here at this time?"
Lord Bentham shook his head as he sat on the chair. He waited till Amy joined them but all he could see was Amy standing at the side. Achard was about to talk when Princess Cassandra’s sight looked at Amy.
"Why are you standing?"
[The Lord is here.] Amy thought as she looked at the fifth Princess. She did not want to say those words out loud. Amy was now comfortable with Duke Salvador. She didn’t know if it was because she was comfortable with Ed before knowing that he was Duke or because they had been working together and had developed an unknown understanding but with Lord Bentham it was different.
Amy had little contact with the Lord. Even though now they were on the same side, it was still difficult for her to be open and normal before the Lord.
Princess Cassandra understood Amy’s thinking as she smiled. Princess Cassandra moved her fingers as the chair moved back due to the wind. "Sit Amy. Lord Bentham is a part of us now. He should get used to the things that we do."
Amy looked at the Lord who did not show any change in expression as she sat down.
"You have gotten used to the power. Your hold is almost like a professional. Have you been practicing?" Lord Bentham asked as he was impressed by the powers of the fifth Princess.
Achard knew how hard it was to control the strength. It took years of practice to even move a cup by the wind. Sometimes the power is great and the cup flies off or too little that it will not move at all, but looking at the fifth Princess it was understandable that she had mastered how to control the elements.
"I was." Princess Cassandra smiled as she nodded. There was no reason to hide it from the Lord.
Duke Salvador listened to the interaction that was going on between the two as he asked. His voice was full of hostility. "Why did you come here?"
Lord Bentham smiled as he looked at his friend. "I should get back on the topic again because if I don’t then something or someone will never stop burning with jealousy." Achard laughed as he looked at the fifth Princes. "We have gotten the news."
Everyone in the room was quiet. They waited for Lord Bentham to continue. Achard did not take long as he started explaining. "We will be leaving for the Kir mountains within a day or two. If the estimated time is to be believed then we might be there at the same time when Princess Valeria starts melting the snow."
"So what are the royals planning to do with the elements?" Duke Salvador asked. "How do they want the Princess to absorb everything at once?"
"They think that Princess Valeria can provide the fire element and the earth will be provided when the snow melts. While the Princess already possesses the water element." Lord Bentham said as his gaze looked down. "But there is still the question of the wind element. Because they are not able to find the pure source they are struggling."
"But?" Duke Salvador raised his eyebrows. He knew Achard Bentham very well and also knew that his friend might have found a way out of it.
Lord Bentham smiled. "But I suggested something. Before we reach the Kir mountain, Princess Teimei will give you a crystal to eat. The crystal that contains the wind elements."
"Aren’t the crystals over? I thought only the secretary had those?" Amy said in a low tone.
"Yes, the secretary has it. But he is from the Vivere KIngdom as well. How do you think I can control the water element. It is because of the element." Lord Bentham said.
"So what are they trying to do?" Princess Cassandra asked as she blinked in confusion.
"When you consume the crystal, the darkness is required to stabilize it in the body. Princess Teimei will do it in the carriage but she will not completely stabilize it. When you reach the Kir mountain, because of the instability of the crystal, the power will expand but it should create a passageway for the elements to enter as well. So when it opens, you will absorb the other elements. And as wind is present everywhere and your crystal will be unstable, your body should be absorbing the wind element and try to stabilize the crystal. And soon you will possess all four elements."
"So this is your plan?" Duke Salvador raised his eyebrows. "Is it the same explanation you gave the royal family?"
"Yes." Lord Bentham nodded. "I am the one who is knowledgeable enough that they trust. On top of that, I am one of them."
"But the Princess already has all the elements," Amy asked. "Will it harm her?"
"No." Lord Bentham smiled as he looked at the fifth Princess. "Because the fifth Princess will never eat the crystals."
’Huh?" Princess Casandra did not understand what Lord Bentham was getting at.
"I will be making crystal-shaped candies which Teimei will give you. You need to pretend that you are feeling uncomfortable after a few minutes of eating it. That will do the trick." Lord Bentham said.
"Won’t Princess Teimei know that I am acting?" Princess Cassandra feared. "I heard that you understand when your powers work. After all, you stabilize the elements."
"Not really, Princess Teimei feels like you are still weak. If I have heard it right, didn’t she block your powers? There should be a mark somewhere." Lord Bentham looked at Princess Cassandra’s hand. It was a commonplace where the seal would appear.
Princess Cassandra rubbed her wrist where the mark was engraved but now there was none. "It had long disappeared." Princess Cassandra murmured as she looked at the Lord.
"So you have grown stronger a long time back. Teimei’s mark only disappears when your powers increase beyond its restriction capabilities. But Teimei did not feel it. She still thinks that you have the mark." Lord Bentham rubbed his chin as he was engrossed in his own world.
"Princess, did you feel the darkness in you? Maybe it tried to attack you?" Lord Bentham asked in a worried filled tone.
"No." Princess Cassandra shook her head but then an image suddenly immersed. She remembered when she had entered the space and the first time she talked with the water element, the darkness tried to attack her. It was the water crystals that had formed a protective layer around her as the water element entered her body.
’[Is lord Bentham talking about that day?] Princess Cassandra thought but her thoughts were hard by Duke Salvador.
"Which day?" Duke Salvador asked as both Achard and Amy looked at them in confusion.
Princess Cassandra shook her head. "When I had entered space, the darkness tried to attack me but the crystals had protected me."
"So that means you had absorbed her powers, that is the reason Teimei did not know that the seal was broken." Lord Bentham said in a small voice. "Anyways, it works for us."
Achard Bentham looked at the fifth Princess. "Let your lady in waiting draw the seal on your hand and make sure that you wear a long hand dress that day. Because the darkness is in you, Princess Teimei will think that her powers are working on you."
Princess Cassandra nodded her head. She still remembered what the seal looked like so Cassandra was confident that Amy could draw it well. She was sure that their plan might just work well.
"And there is one more new." Lord Bentham said in a dull tone. "The Empress had passed away."
The room was silent. Amy looked to the fifth Princess as she saw her eyes dead.
Cassandra did not know how to react. She was the one who was tortured by the Empress. Cassandra had suffered a lot but when she heard the words that the Empress had died she could not express herself.
Should she be happy or sad? She should be happy that the woman that should have acted like the mother to all the royal children but tortured them instead is no more, but Cassandra felt a bit sad too.
It was a very unknown emotion to her. Her heart started feeling heavy as Cassandra’s hand formed a fist. Maybe it was a feeling of sadness that came in by knowing that someone she knew was dead.
