Chapter 350: Guest From The Palace

—---

In the secret underground chamber, Carmela observed with concentrated eyes as her coven members stitched up the decapitated body of Marius. The scent of incense hung heavily in the air as the ritual unfolded, and Carmela couldn’t help but rub her skin subconsciously, just watching the needles go through Marius’s flesh to connect with the other.

Her guards have been able to recover the body of Marius, and the only way to wake him up was fulfilling a ritual with the help of her coven. They had his body laid on the symbol on the cold floor, and the stitching process began successfully.

As the last stitch was secured, Carmela could finally breathe, and her eyes gleamed with a sinister satisfaction. Marius’s body lay lifeless before them, but without its head, his body remained a mere vessel.

Carmela’s jaw clenched at the thought of them having his head in their possession, and retrieving it back will be no different from knocking on death’s door.

The challenge of reviving Marius without his crucial components lingered heavily in the air, and one of the witches kept the needle aside. She had a look of disapproval on her face while gazing at the sewn body, and she turned her head to Carmela who appeared lost in one of her evil ideas yet again.

"Wanting your throne back is understandable." The witch with a young face as Carmela’s softly began. She too had her own ego, and that was making sure the ruler of the land came from her coven. "You’re powerful enough to handle this by yourself, aren’t you not? Why do you still have to play with this demon? He is not to be trusted, he will bring you to the mud if you make him part of your plans again."

The other four nodded their heads in affirmation, their faces hidden behind the dark purple cloaks they wore. Carmela smiled wickedly as she contemplated their advice, and she shrugged to it before allowing her hand to caress Marius’s unmoved arm.

"What you speak of is true, and I don’t intend to make Marius stay in this world for long." Carmela assured them, "he lied to me from the very beginning, using my weak point to keep me glued to him. He told me she was nothing more than an orb to him, he told me he only needed her powers, and I fell for it. I suspected there was more to his obsession, but I avoided it deliberately, wanting to become blind to reason but not anymore."

Carmela moved past her members and stood before a table where the amulet used for summoning was placed. She picked up the purple amulet, gazing intently at the shiny purple stone secured inside the glass shell before curving her lips to a cynical smile.

"If I can’t get his head by myself, I’ll just have to send someone else to do it. After all, he owes Marius quite a deal, so I doubt he’ll refuse." She buried the amulet in her palm and walked out of the underground chamber. The witches exchanged burdensome glances, but knew they had no say when it came to communicating with Carmela, she was the head of the coven afterall.

"Hey." Ivan walked into Tobias’s tent to find him sharpening his scythe. The vampire stopped what he was doing and glanced at the entrance where Ivan stood, but he wasn’t expecting Duncan to follow. He was acting surprised to see them here, yet he hardly knew why.

"I thought you weren’t supposed to step out once the sun is out" Tobias raised a questioning eyebrow at Duncan who opened the tent a little, and the outside was barely sunny. The weather was friendly, and the air was relatively cool and calm.

Also, the surrounding was starting to turn a little shade of red. Tobias’s crimson eyes widened slightly after realizing the subtle change, and he glanced at the two vampires who stood at the entrance.

"I don’t think it’s going to be sunny for a few days." Duncan answered, "are you busy?"

"Yes."

"We need your help, so skip the blade for another time." Ivan approached Tobias, taking his scythe away from his grip and resting it on the table. "You’ve been cooped up in your tent for more than two days. I know you like your privacy but there’s a lot going on out there too. Duncan and I were about to interrogate one of Carmela’s bodyguards, but I want you to do it now."

"I’ve never interrogated someone before." Tobias clicked his tongue, it was a half-lie, but he never really did much talking since Alistair always jumped right in. He normally just stands and watches, and then the killing was left for him to accomplish, but interrogating? He wasn’t the type who had a knack for it like Ivan and his brother.

"You two should do it yourselves." He rose from his bedspread, "I don’t do much, but if you need help in ending him, then you can come for me. For now, I’m useless in this case, so get out, and leave me alone." The way he said it hardly sounded offensive to the ears, his sounded rather tired, solemn, and that made the two vampires exchange quizzical, but worried glances.

"It’s an order, Tobias." Ivan’s gaze sharpened, using the only trick card he had to chase his cousin out of his shell, "are you going to disobey the orders of your king? I need you working again, I need you out here, and if you go against me I have no other choice but to punish you accordingly."

Duncan, as confused as he was, could only nod his head in agreement, even if he didn’t understand what exactly was happening. Ivan had dragged him here to help get Tobias back on his feet, and he couldn’t help but wonder why he was dragged into this, but being here, and seeing how bothered Tobias looked, he was more than willing to help him get back up on his feet, even if it meant agreeing to every word that came out of Ivan’s mouth.

"What should I do?"

"Getting info about Marius is taking too much time, we can’t wait for Viktor’s response." Ivan began, "you and Duncan will interrogate the guard, I’ll try to fix–" ƒree𝑤ebnσvel-com

"Your Majesty," the voice of a guard from outside the tent drew their attention. The three vampire’s exchanged glances before stepping out to see the guard.

"Your Majesty, someone from the Palace has arrived. He said he was sent by Lord Viktor."

"The information we need must have arrived with this... person?" Duncan thoughtfully added, glancing at Ivan who already moved ahead to see who Lord Viktor had sent.
