Born Into Villain's Family: I Have a 200\% Rebate System-Chapter 521: Snake
Once everything was finalized, Kaylee received her very first task.
That task was to directly assign Adriana to a supervisory role.
At first, Kaylee had been confused. ’Why her?’
But the moment she went through Adriana’s portfolio in detail, admiration quickly replaced doubt.
She smiled at Adriana. "This is because of your talent."
Adriana shook her head instinctively. "But I’ve never submitted my designs to any competitions."
Kaylee hesitated for a second, then remembered Aurora’s instructions.
With a slightly awkward smile, she continued,
"When the company was first being founded, the founder came across one of your Instagram posts. Your concept stood out immediately. The idea and execution were unique, so... they decided to hire you."
Adriana froze.
Then she smiled, a gentle, filled with determination.
"If that’s the case," she replied, "I’ll definitely pour my heart into this job. I’ll make sure the owner never regrets this decision."
Her eyes sparkled.
"Besides, an annual salary of one million dollars is thrilling enough."
’Do I even need to worry about anything else?’ she thought giddily.
Many average humans couldn’t earn this much. Even the amount she made in a single month felt unreal.
Admittedly, that thought was exaggerated, but Adriana was floating on cloud nine.
For the first time in a long while, she stopped overworking herself and allowed herself proper rest.
With rest came clarity.
Soon, she completed an entire new design set.
When Aurora saw it, she couldn’t hide her excitement.
Of course, Aurora wasn’t personally managing the fashion house.
She had already hired a CEO, Amber, who oversaw the entire design process.
Recruiting Amber hadn’t been easy.
Aurora had fought hard to secure her, offering a staggering salary of five million dollars.
Amber’s portfolio was powerful, her work ethic even stronger. Aurora had known from the start that Amber was destined to become the CEO of an international company.
Back in the original novel, Adeline and Alex had reached out to her, they had mentioned Amber’s past achievements, how she had turned a bankrupt company viral, revived its brand, and brought in steady sales.
Many companies had competed fiercely to recruit her.
Amber had rejected them all.
She stayed only because she wanted to support a senior colleague who had once defended her publicly, even at the cost of his own reputation.
At present, however, Amber was being mistreated in her company.
She endured it silently, swallowing her anger.
Aurora noticed that vulnerability and seized the moment.
Amber was currently working at a fashion brand named IEU, a company that would eventually become international under her leadership.
Yet, she faced blatant racism there because of her skin color.
The company showed no intention of protecting her and would likely continue mistreating her for years.
So Aurora stepped in and pulled her out decisively.
’Why wait for them to hurt her further?’ Aurora thought with quiet satisfaction.
Amber, on the other hand, reviewed Adriana’s designs with a sharp eye.
She didn’t flatter her. Instead, she criticized every flaw and summoned Adriana repeatedly to fix mistakes.
At first, Adriana wondered uneasily, ’Does she dislike me?’
But the salary was generous, the working hours reasonable, and Amber enforced a strict rule, no designing after work hours.
That condition came directly from the founder, who firmly believed that employees deserved a personal life.
Gradually, Adriana began to understand.
This wasn’t dislike. This was guidance.
Within just two months, her growth was undeniable.
When she reviewed her own designs, she was so shocked that she almost ran to hug Amber on the spot.
’So this is my potential,’ she realized. ’I just needed the right mentor.’
When the Waters family learned about Adriana’s lucrative paycheck, one million dollars annually, they were overjoyed.
But somewhere in the shadows, someone had been watching the Waters family for a long time.
Abby.
Her eyes gleamed with malicious intent.
She planned to blackmail every member of the Waters family, squeeze money out of them, and gather evidence, until her fake adoptive parents were forced to give her what she wanted.
The moment that thought formed in her mind, Abby began closely monitoring the Waters family.
She studied their routines, their habits, their schedules, until a clear target emerged.
Mary.
After Mary finished her shift at the library one quiet afternoon, a woman approached her between the tall shelves that smelled faintly of old paper and dust.
Without a word, the woman handed her an envelope and disappeared before Mary could even react.
Mary frowned, unease settling into her chest. She opened the letter.
Her eyes widened.
The contents spoke of Adam, of how he had once been a thief.
For a brief moment, Mary’s first thought was Hans, Lovely, and Milo. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
But almost immediately, she shook her head.
’No,’ she thought sharply. ’They’re still in prison.’
If this letter existed, then someone else must have been contacted to deliver it.
That realization made her blood boil.
Fear no longer gripped her the way it once had.
After facing Hans, Milo, and Lovely, Mary had learned how to fight back.
What hurt more than fear was the ache in her chest for her husband, the man who had given nothing but love to everyone around him, only to have his life turned into a cruel joke.
The family he believed in had never truly been his.
Everything he had given them was built on lies.
The truth had been known by everyone except him.
Clenching the letter in her hand, Mary went straight to the police station.
She placed it on the table and demanded confirmation. "Check this," she said firmly. "Tell me if this was written by Hans, Milo, or Lovely."
When the three were shown the letter, they laughed. Hans laughed the hardest. He knew exactly who was behind it.
’Abby,’ he thought, a twisted thrill rising in his chest. Still, he said nothing.
Mary watched their reactions carefully. She knew then, it wasn’t them.
Just as worry began creeping back into her heart, her phone buzzed.
A video.
Her hands trembled slightly as she opened it.
The screen showed clips of a child stealing small items.
Nothing severe, nothing violent, but if those clips were leaked online, Adam’s reputation would be destroyed beyond repair.
For a fleeting second, Mary considered hiring a hacker.
Then she stopped.
’I already have one.’
Without hesitation, she contacted Aurora and told her everything.
Aurora promised calmly, "I’ll investigate this."
What Mary didn’t know was that, at that very moment, Abby was being dragged into a car by several bodyguards.
Abby panicked, her heart pounding violently.
’The Waters family found out,’ she thought desperately. ’I’m done for.’
But when the car stopped and she was shoved forward, the person waiting wasn’t who she expected.
It was Luna.
The very woman Adam had once protected.
Luna stepped forward slowly.
This time, there was light in her eyes. After months of treatment and medication, she had finally regained partial vision.
Though the world was still blurred, she could now make out shapes, silhouettes, and movement.
And she could clearly see Abby.
Without hesitation, Luna raised her hand and slapped Abby hard.
The sound echoed through the room.
Abby froze in shock.
"I’ve seen many stupid people," Luna said coldly, her voice sharp and steady. "But I’ve never seen someone as stupid as you."
She leaned closer. "Do you have a death wish? Threatening Adam?"
Abby glared back, pain burning across her cheek. "Who are you?" she snapped. "Why are you going so far for him?"
Then she sneered. "What, are you his mistress?"
Luna bent down until her blurred gaze met Abby’s eyes. A faint smile curved her lips.
"If that were my fate, I’d happily accept it, even in my dreams."
Her smile vanished. "But Adam is too upright to even think about having a mistress."
Abby laughed darkly. "He steals," she scoffed. "People like that always have worse habits."
Another slap landed before she could finish.
Luna straightened slowly, her eyes cold yet strangely calm.
"Say one more wrong word about Adam," she warned softly, "and I’ll make sure you regret ever crossing my path."
Abby swallowed hard. Fear finally crept in. She could tell Luna came from money, real power. Yet she couldn’t understand why Luna was going this far.
’Do they share some unforgivable secret?’ she wondered.
As if sensing her thoughts, Luna spoke evenly. "I’ll let you live."
Abby stiffened.
"But there’s one condition," Luna continued. "You will never threaten Adam again. You will never use any blackmail material against him."
Abby pressed her lips together, then looked up slowly. "I want money."
She laughed bitterly. "Give me money, and I’ll let Adam live however he wants."
Luna chuckled. "You have some nerve," she replied. "Do you really think I’d give you even a single penny?"
Her tone hardened. "Letting you live is already mercy."
Abby clenched her fists and shouted,
"Without money, how am I supposed to take revenge? What’s the point of not releasing the evidence at all?"
Luna narrowed her eyes. "How much?"
Abby answered immediately, her voice shaking with obsession.
