Chapter 495: Chapter 495: Forgiveness

Jules gasped softly, instinctively clutching his shoulder.

Lucas turned and walked away, carrying her as if there were no one else in the world.

Maya stood frozen.

So did Nick.

The sight was unbearable to both of them. Only now did Maya truly realize something she had refused to admit before. No matter how handsome or charming Nick was, he was nothing compared to Lucas.

Not in the presence. Not in strength. Not in the way he protected the woman he loved.

Maya clenched her fists.

’I need to change my plan,’ she thought darkly.

She glanced at Nick and spoke softly, "What do we do now?"

Nick’s expression hardened.

"Since she doesn’t want to play nice," he said coldly, "then we change the script entirely."

When Jules and Lucas arrived at Lucas’s apartment, the moment the door closed behind them, Jules wrapped her arms around him tightly.

"I really don’t understand," she murmured. "Why is he still pestering me?"

Lucas stroked her hair gently.

"Because he realized he lost a diamond," he replied calmly, "and he’s blaming himself for letting it slip away due to a foolish mistake."

Jules pulled back slightly, looking up at him in surprise.

"You’re not doubting me... are you?"

Lucas smiled and hugged her again, his voice warm.

"How could I doubt my wife?" he said softly. "If you had really liked that jerk, you wouldn’t have hidden it. You would’ve got together with him and wouldn’t have told me anything."

Jules’s eyes stung unexpectedly.

A wave of gratitude washed over her. If Lucas hadn’t shared that story earlier, she might never have said anything at all. She would have kept everything bottled up, silently blaming herself.

She looked at him thoughtfully.

"But why did you tell me that story in the first place?" she asked. "You’re not the type to share office gossip."

Lucas chuckled lightly.

"Aurora told me to," he admitted. "She said that if Nick tried to manipulate you, this story might help you see things more clearly."

Jules smiled softly.

"So everything she did... was for my sake."

She felt warmth spread through her chest.

"I really hit the jackpot this time," she said sincerely. "Aurora is incredibly thoughtful."

Meanwhile, the very person being talked about was lying in bed, staring at her phone with a complicated expression.

Aurora was currently focused on one very important matter.

Making Spencer forgive her.

This argument... if it could even be called that... was not because Spencer was angry that Aurora hadn’t replied.

What truly infuriated him was the fact that Aurora had even considered hiding her illness from him.

That single thought alone was enough to push him over the edge. He stopped himself from calling. He didn’t send a single message.

And that silence shattered Aurora.

Cold sweat broke out along her back, soaking through her clothes as panic wrapped tightly around her chest.

Her fingers trembled as she unlocked her phone and began typing message after message, soft, cutesy, almost pleading words, anything that might coax a response from him.

’Please reply... just one message is enough,’ she thought desperately.

But nothing came.

From her perspective, it felt as though her messages weren’t even reaching him, as if they were stuck somewhere in the void.

The absence of his reply made her breathing grow shallow, her thoughts spiraling.

If Aurora had known that Spencer was holding his phone the entire time, reading every single one of her messages slowly, carefully, savoring them like a meticulously prepared dinner, she would have definitely, absolutely, become furious.

Meanwhile, Spencer leaned back, eyes fixed on the screen, watching Aurora’s increasingly desperate attempts.

A quiet sense of satisfaction bloomed in his chest. He wasn’t doing this out of cruelty alone.

He was doing it on purpose... to teach her a lesson. It was important for Aurora to understand that she couldn’t act on her own, couldn’t pretend she was alone in the world anymore.

That was always her problem.

She knew she was cherished, she knew people cared about her, and yet she still chose to shoulder everything by herself.

She didn’t even think of calling the Waters family.

She simply went to sleep, foolishly believing she would wake up fine, that things would somehow work out.

Spencer clenched his jaw. ’She always overestimates her body,’ he thought grimly, worry gnawing at him.

What if the Waters family hadn’t been able to arrive in time?

What if they had their own emergencies? They could have been delayed. And by then... Spencer’s fingers tightened around his phone. God knew what could have happened to Aurora.

That fear became the root of his anger.

So he decided to go all the way and act as if he was genuinely furious with her.

And it worked. Aurora’s panic only grew, her messages becoming more frantic.

Seeing that, Spencer felt both delighted and conflicted. A part of him enjoyed having all of Aurora’s attention so completely focused on him.

Time passed, and he kept rereading her messages, his thumb hovering over the screen.

There was even a moment when he felt the urge to use his private jet, fly across the world, and see Aurora with his own eyes... just to make sure she was alright.

Because, undeniably, their relationship had changed.

They had become more understanding of each other, more honest.

What pleased him the most was the fact that Aurora, who used to be fiercely independent, had begun to care deeply about his reactions. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

She worried when he was angry. She felt unsettled by his silence. She had accepted him into her life fully, and to Spencer, that was no small achievement.

Still, fear lingered beneath that satisfaction.

’If she loses her memory again...’ The thought alone made his chest tighten.

He didn’t know how he would survive that. Because of that fear, he had begun creating evidence, proof of their relationship.

He took screenshots of their conversations, snapped photos during video calls, and even secretly recorded a few moments.

All of it was stored carefully, just in case. ’If she ever forgets,’ he told himself, ’I’ll help her remember.’

Looking back at everything he had collected, Spencer felt a slow sense of reassurance settle in.

Now, as Aurora’s messages continued to pour in, a mischievous urge surfaced. He decided to tease her a little. Calmly, he typed a reply and sent it.

"If this is how you’re planning to repent, then it’s better if you don’t repent at all."

The moment Aurora saw the message, her heart nearly leapt out of her chest.

Panic surged again... but only briefly. She paused, staring at the screen, then realization dawned.

’If he were truly furious,’ she thought, ’he wouldn’t have bothered replying at all.’

Her breathing slowly steadied.

Maybe his anger had lessened. Or maybe he hadn’t been as angry as she feared.

Either way, relief washed over her, and she exhaled deeply.

Deciding not to waste the opportunity, she resolved to act first.

She searched online, booked bouquets, and scheduled daily visits without hesitation.

Meanwhile, Spencer was in the middle of sending another message when his screen suddenly went black.

His phone. His laptop. Every electronic device around him... blank.

He froze.

The room felt unnervingly silent as his eyes narrowed, sharpness flashing within them. ’Is this some kind of coordinated attack?’ he thought, instincts flaring as he immediately went on alert.

But in the very next second, every screen in front of him lit up.

Aurora’s face appeared.

On one screen, she pointed at her cheeks with her index fingers, smiling awkwardly, her eyes slightly nervous. Beneath the image, bold words appeared.

"I’m sorry."

The screen blinked.

Another clip replaced it. Aurora pressed her index finger and thumb together, forming a crooked heart, her lips moving as she mouthed,

"I love you."

Then another clip appeared. And another. And another.

Some were clumsy videos. Some were badly timed photos. Some were clearly recorded in a rush. The more Spencer watched, the more the corners of his lips lifted. His chest felt warm, light, almost ticklish.

Finally, he couldn’t hold it in anymore. He laughed.

It wasn’t a restrained chuckle, but a genuine burst of laughter, the kind that escaped before he could stop it. Her effort was ridiculous. Endearing. Completely Aurora.

On the other side of the screen, Aurora was staring at him through the laptop camera. The moment she saw him laugh so freely, her heart softened.

’He’s smiling again...’

She smiled too, a little shyly. An overwhelming urge rose in her chest... to hug him, to tell him how much she missed him, to remind him that he mattered more than anything.

That night, Spencer finally returned to talking with Aurora as he normally did.

But Aurora also learned something important.

Actions had consequences.

Not every mistake could be smoothed over with a smile, a GIF, or a silly video. So when Spencer reminded her gently, she nodded seriously.

"I remember my mistake," she promised. "I won’t do it again."

Spencer exhaled, the last bit of tension easing from his shoulders.
