Chapter 484: Chapter 484: NPC

’Was this really the right decision?’ she wondered. ’Am I doing this because I want to, or because the plot is forcing me?’

As she spiraled deeper into thought, a stranger approached and sat down beside her.

Eleonora glanced at him briefly before looking away again. The man was wearing a tracksuit, his face hidden beneath a hood. She was not in the mood to detect or analyze NPCs, so she paid him no further attention.

Then, without warning, the stranger spoke.

"Sometimes, instead of chasing others, you should let others give you a chance."

Eleonora turned sharply toward him, her expression strange and guarded. "What do you mean?"

The hooded man replied calmly, "Do you really need to keep chasing others?"

Eleonora fell silent for a moment before shaking her head slightly. "You don’t understand."

A soft laugh escaped the stranger’s lips. Even though his face remained hidden, the sound was undeniably pleasant, almost charming. To her surprise, Eleonora felt a faint pull toward him.

"Sometimes," he continued, "it’s better not to understand everything. Even if you feel you have to chase Theodore, there will still be others who like you. Instead of giving Theodore another chance, why not look for someone who genuinely wants to be with you?"

Eleonora studied him deeply.

"Are you saying you like me?"

The stranger laughed as if he had heard a joke, yet there was a trace of seriousness beneath it.

"I do," he admitted calmly. "But what can I do? You only ever look for Theodore or Mateo. You’ve never once turned around to look at me."

Eleonora was stunned. Her breath hitched slightly as she immediately called out in her mind, "System, what’s going on?"

The system paused, beginning its detection before answering.

[I cannot identify him. Without uncovering his face, his identity remains unknown.]

Eleonora stared at the hooded man once more, her heart beating a little faster than before, as an unfamiliar sense of unease and curiosity crept into her chest.

From her perspective, the system had always been omnipotent, an existence that knew everything there was to know about this world. And yet now, it did not even know who the stranger was. That realization sent a strange chill crawling up her spine.

The hooded man stood up slowly and looked down at her, his gaze unusually serious.

"If one day you regret your decision," he said calmly, "you can always come to me. I live in a villa near the alley."

With those words, he turned around and walked away, his footsteps light, as if he had never truly been there.

Watching his retreating figure, Eleonora arched an eyebrow and muttered under her breath, "What, is he some kind of rich man?"

The system remained silent for a brief moment before responding.

[What if he isn’t?]

Eleonora let out a soft chuckle.

"Even if he isn’t," she replied indifferently, "and even if I can’t go back to my original world, and even if those so-called main leads don’t like me, I’ll just go with him."

The system immediately issued a warning, its tone colder than before.

[Trusting a stranger like that could land you in a trafficking ring.]

Eleonora laughed, but the sound was bitter.

"Before coming to this world, I didn’t have a family either," she murmured. "I wasn’t an orphan, but no one cared about me. Not in that life, and not in this one."

Her fingers tightened slightly as she continued,

"I just wanted someone to care about me. Someone who would panic even if I got a paper cut. But now..."

She paused, a hollow feeling spreading in her chest.

"After chasing those so-called main leads and imagining some redemption arc, all they look like to me is trash."

With that, Eleonora stood up, brushed off her clothes, and walked away without looking back, her steps steady despite the storm of emotions inside her.

A week passed.

During that week, a strange situation unfolded around the Waters family.

They gradually realized that unfamiliar people had been following them. Some lurked at a distance, while others behaved suspiciously, even going as far as hiding in nearby alleys.

At first, no one paid much attention to it except Aurora and Olivia.

The rest of the family remained oblivious, living their lives as usual. Aurora, however, understood immediately who those people were.

Through discreet investigation, she discovered that several assassination attempts had already been made against the Waters family.

The only reason nothing had happened was because of the highly capable bodyguards who managed to intercept every attack.

What Aurora could not understand was why there were so many assassination attempts.

Without hesitation, she hacked into the relevant information.

The moment the truth appeared on her screen, anger surged violently within her. The person behind all these attacks was Louis’ mother.

According to the original timeline, Aurora had believed that this woman would only appear after Olivia graduated.

But now, she had arrived even before Olivia finished her studies. That could only mean one thing. This woman was hell-bent on troubling her sister.

If that were the case, then there would be no need for politeness.

Aurora’s eyes darkened.

Louis’ mother was so strict with him and held such high expectations because Louis came from the underground world and was, in fact, the legitimate child of the family.

However, he was much younger. The illegitimate child, his older brother, had been around far longer, which made few elders believe that the elder should inherit everything.

As a result, a large portion of the family elders opposed the older brother.

But fate had played a cruel joke.

The illegitimate child ended up marrying someone extremely wealthy and well-connected. Overnight, he gained a powerful foothold. Very few people dared to cross him now.

This shift triggered Louis’ mother deeply.

She wanted her own daughter-in-law to come from an equally powerful background.

When she learned that Olivia was nothing more than a painting graduate, disappointment consumed her. In her eyes, Olivia was completely unworthy of Louis.

She wanted to ensure that Olivia would never stay by Louis’ side, never ruin his prospects of a so-called "good marriage."

She had already filtered through multiple candidates and was even considering forcing Louis to sleep with them, believing that once physical ties were established, Louis would inevitably be bound to powerful families.

As Aurora processed all of this, her lips curled into a cold smile.

’If she wants to play dirty,’ Aurora thought, ’then I won’t hold back anymore.’

On the surface, it might have appeared that Louis’s mother was doing everything for Louis’s own good, wrapping her control in the warm disguise of concern.

In reality, every move she made reeked of ambition and hunger for power, a cold scent that lingered no matter how sweet her words sounded.

Louis had long ago wanted to sever all family ties, to cut himself free from the suffocating grip of the mafia world that had stained his childhood and haunted his nights.

He did not want blood-soaked power, nor did he want to inherit a throne built on fear and corpses.

Yet his mother kept dragging him back, her invisible chains tightening whenever he tried to step away.

At the same time, Louis’s brother lurked in the shadows, sharpening his knives with patience and malice, determined to ensure that Louis died so that everything would belong to him, clean and uncontested.

’If Louis disappears, nothing stands in my way,’ that unspoken thought echoed behind every calculated smile he wore.

Given all that, if Olivia and Louis truly ended up together, the balance would shift.

Too many things would change. Alliances would crack, power would tilt, and secrets buried deep in the underworld would claw their way to the surface.

Hence, the only way to make sure that none of that happened was to deal with the enemies immediately. Helping Louis now was far better than turning a blind eye and regretting it later.

With that resolve, Aurora wasted no time. Her fingers moved with purpose as she typed out an email and sent it to Louis, the soft clacking of the keyboard filling the room.

Once that was done, she leaned back only briefly before diving headfirst into the darker task of digging up the filthy secrets of the mafia world Louis’s family belonged to.

Minutes passed, then hours, and a slow smirk curved her lips when she realized just how easily she was slipping past their defenses.

’So this is it?’ she mused inwardly. ’The infamous underworld security?’

She hacked into their systems without the slightest resistance, bypassing firewalls that were supposed to be impenetrable.

It dawned on her then that she had surpassed even the so-called number one hackers, because these mafia forces had their own elite specialists deployed.

Yet none of them could stop her. She took everything she wanted, file after file, secret after secret.

Just as the air in the room began to feel smothering and stale, Aurora froze.
