Born Into Villain's Family: I Have a 200\% Rebate System-Chapter 476: Gaslight
Because these were emergency funds, their names were carefully masked.
The money wouldn’t surface unless absolutely necessary, ensuring that no outsider could seize it or manipulate it.
Not satisfied yet, Aurora leaned back, fingers dancing across the keyboard again.
She hacked deeper.
If any corrupt official ever attempted to withhold returns from these investments, the system would automatically deduct the amount from their own accounts instead and transfer it to her sibling’s account.
’Insurance,’ she thought coldly.
She worked in silence, completely immersed, ensuring that even if she were imprisoned one day or forcibly removed from her siblings’ lives, what she did tonight would protect them.
In fact, she had a theory. What if she someday falls into a coma like before? Who will protect her family then?
She even included Spencer’s name.
Only after finishing did she lean back and collapse onto her bed.
As drowsiness crept in, a fleeting thought crossed her mind.
’I might need money too.’
The thought barely bothered her. From her perspective, earning money was never the problem.
When Aurora woke up, the faint aroma of dinner drifted through the air.
She walked toward the dining table and immediately spotted Jules sitting there. Aurora offered a polite smile, but her thoughts were already turning.
’This timing... is perfect.’
Since Jules was here, what better opportunity to stir things up, just a little?
With that in mind, Aurora deliberately took the seat beside Jules.
Lucas immediately glanced at her, his eyes narrowing slightly, as if silently asking what kind of trouble she was planning now.
Aurora rolled her eyes. "Why do you look at me like I’m a criminal? I haven’t even done anything."
Jules immediately came to her defense, smiling gently.
"She really hasn’t. Blaming her now would be unfair, especially when she looks so innocent! Lucas, stop doubting your own sister!"
Lucas frowned faintly.
’She really favors Aurora,’ he thought.
It was something he had noticed over time.
Aurora, however, was well aware of it.
She remembered confronting Jules once, asking why she showed her so much fondness.
Back then, Jules had smiled softly and replied that it was Aurora’s message that forced Lucas to change.
If not for Aurora, Lucas might never have reflected on himself at all.
That change made it possible for Jules to start over, to heal, and to reach where she stood today.
Because of that, Jules felt nothing but gratitude toward Aurora.
Aurora understood it perfectly.
She had even told Jules repeatedly that while she might have nudged Lucas in the right direction, if Lucas had truly been rotten to the core, he would never have listened in the first place. In the end, it was his own effort that mattered most.
Jules had only smiled in response.
Now, Aurora leaned closer to Jules, lowering her voice until it brushed against her ear.
"By the way," she murmured casually, "I recently ran into someone named Nick."
The moment those words left her mouth, Jules stiffened.
Her color drained instantly, and she turned to Aurora with barely concealed horror flickering in her eyes.
Aurora pretended as if she hadn’t noticed Jules’s sharp glare at all.
Her voice softened deliberately, carrying a casual, almost dreamy tone.
"This Nick guy," she murmured, "even though he’s only eight or nine years older than me, somehow makes me feel like we’re completely compatible."
Jules’s fingers tightened slightly around her cutlery. She paused before turning her head, her expression carefully neutral.
"What’s his full name?" she asked.
Aurora answered smoothly,
"Nick Brown. He seems to have had an ex-wife before, but he’s completely single now. There’s a woman named Maya around him, but I’m pretty sure I’m the only one in his heart."
The moment those words landed, Jules’s face went cold.
She recognized the name instantly. Too clearly. Too painfully.
’Nick...’
But she didn’t let it show, not fully. She refused to frighten Aurora and refused to let panic leak into her voice.
Instead, she chose a gentler approach, forcing her breathing to steady.
"How far have things gone between you two?" Jules asked quietly.
Aurora shrugged, an innocent gesture.
"Not far. Recently, he’s been full of regret. He keeps saying that the ex-wife he tortured so badly was actually the victim all along."
Jules stiffened.
That was confirmation enough.
Her heart sank, but her face remained composed.
Aurora continued, tilting her head slightly. "Sometimes I feel like he’s gaslighting me," she admitted lightly, as if testing the waters.
"But at the same time... he really matches my taste."
Jules immediately turned to her, voice firm. "Stop seeing him."
Aurora frowned.
Jules paused, choosing her words carefully. "If you feel like someone is gaslighting you, that’s already a red flag. A dangerous one."
Aurora shook her head slowly.
"He told me that if I ever told anyone I felt gaslighted, no one would believe me. He said people would doubt me instead."
Jules’s chest tightened.
’That twisted logic... it’s exactly like him.’
Aurora sighed and continued, her tone tinged with faint sadness.
"He almost broke up with me after finding out the truth about his ex-wife. Honestly, I felt really hurt. He was the one who begged me not to leave before, and now that he knows the truth... he suddenly wants to end things."
She leaned closer and wrapped her arms around Jules in a soft hug.
"I could only tell you this," Aurora whispered, pouting slightly. "I know you’re not overprotective like my siblings."
The gesture looked innocent. Almost childish.
In reality, Aurora knew better.
She knew Jules was at least half as possessive as the rest of her family, if not more.
In fact, Aurora had underestimated Jules.
Gratitude had softened Jules toward her, but as time passed, Jules had uncovered a secret that even the Waters family didn’t know yet.
Aurora’s other identity.
Ms. Dawn.
Jules had discovered it by accident.
One day, while staying at Water’s place, she needed a laptop.
Lucas had casually handed her Aurora’s. Logging in without thinking, Jules had been met with folders upon folders of documents, investment contracts, financial projections, and company plans.
Every single one of them pointed to a painfully obvious truth.
Aurora was Ms. Dawn.
The mysterious investor behind Lucas’s startup.
When Jules discovered the truth, she finally understood the countless silent efforts Aurora had made for her parents and siblings.
Yet never once had Aurora taken credit for any of it.
She always acted as though she had nothing to do with those things, as if everything had happened naturally.
That quiet self-effacement pierced straight through Jules’s heart.
’A sister who does so much... and still chooses to stay silent.’
Not long ago, Jules had even received a message from Ms. Dawn, offering to invest any amount of money she wanted, on the single condition that Jules stayed with Lucas.
If she had received that message earlier, she would have been baffled.
Now, however, she understood everything.
Aurora had been worried about her siblings all along, worried to the point of secretly laying down safety nets so that each of them could pursue happiness without fear.
And if that was the case, then a woman like Aurora truly deserved to be cherished.
That was precisely why, among all of Lucas’s siblings, Jules felt closest to Aurora. It was never about money.
It was about the effort Aurora poured in silently, without ever asking for acknowledgment.
Now, hearing Aurora’s words, Jules had only one thought.
’If my ex dares to ruin Aurora’s life because of some petty grudge... I’ll deal with him myself.’
Jules completely misunderstood Aurora’s true intention.
In her mind, Nick had approached Aurora only because he wanted to get closer to her again.
And when she heard about the gaslighting, her fury deepened to the point of resolve.
Once, that man had destroyed her life.
This time, she would destroy his.
With that thought, Jules reached out and gently patted Aurora’s head.
"If you truly consider me your sister-in-law," she said softly, "then you should break up with this Nick guy."
Aurora pouted and pulled away slightly. Her voice dropped into a careful, thoughtful tone.
"So... if I ever feel like someone is blackmailing me or gaslighting me, I should really reach out and ask others for help?"
Jules nodded without hesitation.
Aurora mirrored the nod, her expression serious for once.
"Then I’ll remember that," she said, before glancing back at Jules. "And you should remember it too."
Jules couldn’t help but smile.
’She’s adorable,’ she thought.
Yet despite the warmth, she took Aurora’s words seriously.
If Nick could gaslight someone as sharp as Aurora into doubting herself, then what he was capable of doing was far more dangerous than Jules had imagined.
She decided, then and there, that when she met Nick again, she would collect undeniable proof.
Proof that would leave him with no room to twist words or fabricate lies.
Whatever blackmail or manipulation he planned next, she would make sure it never succeeded.
Aurora, unaware of how seriously Jules was taking this, had no idea that she wouldn’t need to lift a finger anymore.
Because once Jules played her hand, Nick wouldn’t just regret trying to blackmail her.
He would break.
