Chapter 452: Chapter 452: DNA

Aurora sat on the edge of her bed, eyes fixed on Han’s small, discreet camera screen displayed on her laptop.

The device, no larger than a button, had been specially requested by her.

When she asked her siblings to help her plant these cameras, she had been very specific about what she wanted: long-lasting battery, minimal energy consumption, and excellent clarity even in dim lighting.

The battery lasted weeks at a time, but Aurora never connected unnecessarily.

She knew that even a single connection drained power, so she only checked the feed when absolutely necessary.

Her eyes were trained, focused, and sharp. She had spent the last week gathering bits and pieces of information that, when assembled like a puzzle, painted a disturbing picture.

Today, for the first time, she had enough pieces.

She clicked the next video file. The screen flickered, then stabilized. What she saw made her breath pause, as if someone had suddenly pressed a hand on her chest.

Two voices. Hans and Lovely.

Their tones... their expressions... their words.

Aurora felt her stomach tighten painfully.

She watched the entire recording without blinking. Once. Twice. A third time.

By the end, she didn’t know whether she wanted to vomit or scream.

For several minutes, she simply sat still, frozen, the weight of everything pressing down on her. ’Should I tell Dad? Should I tell him everything right now?’

Her hand moved toward her phone involuntarily.

Then she stopped.

Tightly, she shut her eyes.

’No. Even if I tell him... what would change? He’ll hurt, he’ll break, he might even make reckless decisions. This has to be dealt with legally. Properly. We need unshakable proof.’

With a trembling exhale, she pushed the phone away and reopened the feed.

She continued searching.

Hours passed. The sun shifted across the room. Her eyes burned from staring at the screen, but she didn’t stop.

And then... finally... she found it.

The location of the pen drive.

She stared at the scene carefully. Lovely’s room. A tiny black locker under the shelf. And the old woman had gone out of her way to hide the password from even her own son and grandson.

’So that’s where it is.’

She clicked out of the feed, closed her laptop, and stood up.

This was enough.

It was time to call a family meeting.

..........................................

Alex arrived looking as if he had seen a horror movie in real life. His eyes were haunted, dark circles, pale cheeks, the whole package.

Olivia entered next, both lost in their thoughts. Olivia’s steps were slow, thoughtful, while Adriana looked distracted, her fingers tapping her phone nonstop.

Lucas walked in while texting his girlfriend lovingly, as if nothing else in the world mattered. Theodore was just Theodore... quiet, idle, acting as if he had been dragged into a room full of chaos he didn’t ask for.

Aurora turned toward Adriana hopefully.

But even she was too busy laughing softly at something Peter had texted her.

Aurora felt her eyelid twitch.

Aurora sighed internally. ’These people. Not one of them is paying attention. Meanwhile, our parents’ entire lives are on the edge.’

She cleared her throat loudly.

"Everyone here?" Aurora asked, trying to grab their attention.

Her siblings were scattered across the couches and chairs like a group of misbehaving students forced into detention.

"Everyone," she said, "I called this meeting because I finally found the pen drive."

Lucas’s head snapped up instantly. Theodore straightened. Even Olivia and Adriana focused on one unified movement.

Alex, eyes haunted, simply whispered, "Where?"

Aurora inhaled slowly. "I’ve been monitoring the cameras for the past week. The pen drive... is in Lovely’s room."

Several jaws tightened.

Aurora continued, "She hid the password from both her son and grandson. And from the other recordings, I got to know that Hans and Milo are planning to send Lovely to an old-age home once they get the money."

Olivia clicked her tongue sharply. "Pathetic. Honestly expected from trash like them."

Theodore rubbed his temples and said softly,

"Maybe... before involving the police, we can show Lovely the evidence? Maybe she’ll realize the truth and support Dad instead."

Adriana shook her head immediately.

"No. Too risky. She’s been biased since birth. If Milo simply kneels and cries a few crocodile tears, she’ll forgive him instantly. She’ll even protect him. Worse, she may panic after realizing we planted cameras and turn everything around on us."

Lucas nodded. "I agree with Adriana."

Alex tapped the table rhythmically, his jaw tight.

"Instead of telling Granny anything, we should just retrieve the pen drive ourselves. Let Milo and Hans jump around in confusion later."

Aurora swallowed hard, then said quietly, "Before we plan that... I have something else to tell you. And it’s big."

All five heads turned toward her simultaneously.

The air thickened.

Aurora took a deep breath. "There’s a ninety-nine percent chance... that Dad isn’t related to Lovely at all."

Silence.

Not the light kind. Not the confused kind. The heavy, suffocating, horrifying kind.

Everyone stared at her. No one moved. No one blinked.

The siblings stared at Aurora as if she had just declared earthquakes were allergic to gravity.

For a moment, Aurora wondered if they were breathing.

Finally, Olivia slammed her palm against the table. "What proof? Show us."

Aurora flinched slightly... Olivia rarely raised her voice.

Still, Aurora reached into her bag and pulled out her phone.

"There’s a recording," she said. "Lovely... indirectly said Dad isn’t their blood. Her exact words: ’A beast like Adam was never our blood.’"

Olivia frowned deeply. "That’s not enough. That could mean anything. Why do you think she meant it literally?"

Aurora swallowed hard. "Because Dad has a rare genetic condition... kleptomania. And on Lovely’s side of the family... no one has it. Not even distantly. The probability of a mutation is low. Too low. Combined with her wording... It’s suspicious."

She tapped her phone again and played another recording.

Milo’s voice echoed through the room: "Adam? Related to us? He never was."

The siblings stiffened.

Adriana closed her eyes. Lucas cursed under his breath. Theodore’s usually calm expression cracked.

Aurora paused the audio. "This proves they knew. But unfortunately, it’s not strong enough for court."

Everyone sat in tense silence until...

"I’ll handle it," Olivia said suddenly.

Every head whipped toward her.

Aurora blinked. "Handle it? How? What do you mean?"

Olivia calmly took out her phone. "I’ve joined a special investigative group."

She held the screen up.

The siblings gasped.

The name of the app flashed boldly, a rising social media platform rumored to have a direct connection with police cyber-monitoring teams.

A platform known for its strict authenticity checks, no-nonsense regulation, and a private unit dedicated to policing digital crimes.

"Wait... what?" Lucas whispered. "You joined... them?"

Olivia nodded. "Three years ago. I’ve been part of their internal department. I gained influence, connections, access, and certain legal privileges."

Aurora felt a buzzing in her ears. ’No... this has to be a prank. Olivia? Miss Artist? Miss Quiet Painter? Joined a police-connected department?’

Olivia continued calmly, "Painting is just a side hustle. My real path... is law enforcement. I’ve already applied to become a full officer."

Aurora’s jaw fell open. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

She wasn’t alone. Theodore looked stunned. Adriana blinked repeatedly. Lucas looked as if Olivia had just confessed to being a secret ninja.

Aurora finally managed to speak. "You’re joining the police force? You? The painter?"

Olivia smiled faintly. "Yes. I’ve been training since you were in a coma."

Aurora groaned softly. ’This girl... seriously...’

She shook her head and asked, "So... do you have a legal method to prove Dad isn’t their blood?"

Olivia nodded.

"Quite a few, actually. First," she began, raising one finger, "a court-sanctioned DNA test can be forced if enough circumstantial evidence suggests fraud or human trafficking."

The room stiffened.

"Second," Olivia continued, "we can request an investigation into father’s childhood paperwork. If records are falsified, altered, or missing, it becomes a criminal offense."

Aurora exhaled shakily.

"Third," Olivia said, "if we prove that father was taken in without proper documentation or consent... then it becomes a human trafficking case. And fourth..." she paused, glancing at Alex and Theodore, "we can file charges for exploitation and abuse."

Alex clenched his fists, trembling with controlled anger.

Aurora placed a hand over her heart. ’Thank God Olivia is in our family...’

Olivia set her phone down.

"With my connections, we can legally force a DNA verification order, seize the pen drive as evidence, and get Lovely, Hans, and Milo investigated."

Adriana’s eyes filled with moisture... not sadness, but relief.

"We can finally protect Dad," she whispered.

Olivia nodded. "Yes. And this time... we’ll do it properly."

After the meeting was over, no one left; instead, everyone looked at Olivia as if waiting for something.
