Chapter 79: Ch 79: The Elf Village

Prince Kaiden was not happy with the new development. His mood had soured instantly once he realized that Shuu came here because he wanted permission to leave.

Even Sera’s pampering could not make him feel better.

He could only stare at the place Shuu had been sitting not too long ago.

"Prince Kaiden, would you like to take a small walk with me? It might help you calm your mind a little."

Sera asked, and her earnest request finally made Prince Kaiden move.

He sighed as he pushed himself back to his feet and followed her out. He could feel the maids looking at him, but his heart was not in it.

Sera noticed this, and even though she did not want to say anything, she felt like she had to speak up.

"I am sure your ex-companion will be just fine. He will be back in time for our wedding. So let’s make sure we set it up quickly. That way, you would be able to see him soon, right?"

Sera tried to joke, but Prince Kaiden seriously started to contemplate if this was the best course of action.

What if he held various ceremonies that needed Shuu...

"Of course, it will take a little while, and that’s good. It would give your companion time to recover as well."

That brought Prince Kaiden’s mood down as he recalled that Shuu was still sick and leaving because of that reason.

His silence was making Sera more and more nervous. She could neither read his expression nor what he was thinking about.

But she did not give up.

"Anyway, about that meeting..."

She continued to speak, but Prince Kaiden had already tuned her out. His mind was occupied by Shuu and his presence. The more detached he was, the more Sera felt angry at him.

Her emotions were boiling over at being ignored like this, but she kept it in check all the way until she reached her room.

Once she was alone, she let her twisted expression take over her face.

"Why is Prince Kaiden being like this? Why is he ignoring me? And he has not even touched me once, despite being so close to me and finally having a chance to... Should I come on to him a little harder?"

When Sera had first heard that Prince Kaiden had spent some nights with his companion, she had not been worried. After all, it had been purely business and for her sake.

But now she wondered if that had actually changed his mind and heart.

However, even if that was the case, once he actually touched Sera, he would change his mind once more. And why wouldn’t he, when she was the center of the universe and the god’s chosen one?

She had once heard her father and the high priest talking about the prophecy of Prince Kaiden’s chosen one when she was three. It said that the "true companion" would have silver hair and golden eyes.

A few days later, her hair and eye colors had changed to what the prophecy foretold, and she had met Prince Kaiden. He had instantly taken her under his wing.

"It’s all a misunderstanding right now. Prince Kaiden is not thinking straight, but once he does, I am sure he will come back to me right away. I just need to make a few preparations..."

That night, she drank so much that she blacked out. And the next morning, when she woke up, she was naked and in an unfamiliar room. But she had no doubt what had happened.

She had finally spent a night with Prince Kaiden.

"We just need to make a few preparations and then we can leave. But are you sure you want to head out so soon? We can stay a little longer and be fine..."

Nero offered as he looked at Shuu’s miserable self.

Poor Shuu was currently hunched over as his body ached and his stomach threatened to make him sick. No matter what he ate, nothing stayed down.

He was surviving on nutritional packets, which somehow stayed inside his stomach long enough to be digested.

"I am fine. I think the stress is making me feel much sicker than I actually am at the moment. It will be fine once we head out of the capital... I think..."

Shuu assured Nero, but Nero still looked worried.

Luckily for Shuu, Erwin was in agreement with him. He handed him a piece of candy to chew on, and it helped Shuu settle his stomach.

"Elf territory is a wonderful place for Prince Kaiden’s companion to be in. It will aid his body and mind. The sooner we leave, the better it will be for everyone involved."

Nero had no choice but to agree. He sighed and made an unhappy expression.

"Alright, I get it. If this is what you have decided, then I will not stop you. Let’s leave by the end of the day."

So that was what they did. They were out the door by the end of the day and heading toward the elf territory.

They had not gone too far when Nero suddenly felt like they were being followed. He opened the carriage and got out.

Black-masked individuals appeared around them, their eyes piercing the group in front of them with calculating looks.

"Are you here to stop us?"

Nero asked, and the black-clad individuals flinched.

"That is our mission... but we would actually like your help here. If we don’t kidnap Prince Kaiden’s companion, then our lives will be in danger. Can you make it seem as if you killed us all?"

The black-clad individuals asked, and Nero nodded.

With a snap of his fingers, the clearing was filled with blood, and a pungent smell filled the area. Shuu immediately reacted to that smell, causing Nero to sigh.

"It’s done. Now, do not show your faces in front of us again."

He told the individuals, and they nodded.

"You have done us a great service. One day, we will repay this favor you have shown us. Until then, we will take our leave."

The masked individuals left, and Nero had a feeling that Prince Kaiden’s shadow messenger had been watching them as well. He allowed their carriage to be followed for a little longer before making it go out of sight.

The shadow messenger could no longer sense them and was forced to retreat quickly.
