"Are you... not going to talk to me?"

Lady Sera asked as she put her cup down. She had a disappointed look in her eyes as she looked at Prince Kaiden. She was currently holding herself back from speaking, but Prince Kaiden did not even notice her struggles.

Or if he did, he ignored her and kept quiet.

"I am sorry. I just wanted to help... but I realized that I made a mistake. Please, forgive me."

Seeing how her usual tactic of ignoring Prince Kaiden was not working, she took on a new approach and apologized for her mistake.

Finally, Prince Kaiden turned to look at her and he sighed.

"Sera, I know you want to do good for people, but next time, talk to me about your idea beforehand. Since you are feeling sorry for what you did this time, I will let it go."

Sera nodded and made a sincere face in front of Prince Kaiden. But she was not actually sorry at all and was only pretending to be so.

Things finally went back to normal between them and she approached Prince Kaiden’s side before she tugged at his arm to push it around her shoulder.

She wanted to cuddle into him, but the guard suddenly opened the door, startling her.

"Prince Kaiden, your... ex-companion Shuu and Familiar Nero are here. They said they have something to talk to you about. Should I... ask them to come back later?"

The guard looked at Lady Sera, who had a glare on her face. She was not happy about being interrupted and the guard felt scared for his life.

Prince Kaiden’s face immediately broke into a smile and a burden seemed to have been lifted from his shoulders.

"Ask them to come in. Sera, do you want to stay or...?"

"I will stay. I need to apologize to them both as well."

There was no way Lady Sera was going to leave the room. Especially not when Shuu came to visit. She had to hear what they were talking about here.

Prince Kaiden just nodded and told the guards to bring Shuu inside.

Shuu and Nero entered along with a familiar-looking elf. The new presence did surprise Prince Kaiden, but he ignored him and told them all to sit.

He patted his side, telling Shuu to come and sit beside him, but Shuu ignored him and sat beside Nero on the other side.

Prince Kaiden felt a little annoyed by this, but he quickly got over his feelings and welcomed the pair.

"Ah, you finally decided to visit me? I was beginning to feel like you had no desire to meet me at all. So, what brings you here? Have you finally decided to come back to the imperial palace and live here?"

Lady Sera’s expression twisted into annoyance, but she kept her smile on her face.

Shuu did not like the attention-the glare-he was getting, so he quickly brought up the topic.

"Actually, I wanted to get your permission to go to the elves’ territory for some time. I have been feeling sick for some time. Erwin told me that going to the elves’ territory will help me feel better. It’ll just be a small trip..."

Prince Kaiden’s expression was blank, and Shuu could immediately tell that he did not agree.

"You want... to leave for the elves’ territory? No way! If you are feeling sick, then I am sure we can find a solution here. Should I call for a doctor-"

"It is a condition that is... ’special’ to companion Shuu. He is someone not blessed by the goddess, so he cannot use normal means to heal. However, the elves’ sacred tree is a different matter. I believe it would be for the best if he comes with me."

Erwin spoke up and Prince Kaiden turned his glare toward him.

It was clear that it was a refusal, and Shuu felt his head hurting. But just as everything seemed pointless, Sera finally helped out.

"Prince Kaiden, you should allow your ex-companion to go and heal. The sooner he goes, the quicker he will heal, right? In that case, should we not send him to the elves’ territory as soon as possible?"

Sera asked, her eyes looking at Prince Kaiden with a determined expression. It was a look that had made him feel weak in the past and agreed to give her what she wanted.

But this time, his heart felt cold and he did not want to agree with her.

"I won’t allow you to go, and that’s final-"

"Even if it has the potential to cost Shuu his life? Are you going to keep him by your side and make him risk his life?"

Nero asked, and Prince Kaiden’s energy lashed out. Nero’s cheek was cut immediately, but he did not back down.

He continued to look at Prince Kaiden with an angry glare.

"Prince Kaiden-"

Sera yelled, but the crown prince did not seem to have heard her. A small growl escaped his mouth and Shuu finally spoke up.

"I want to go. I don’t want to die here, and I... want to live my own life."

Shuu’s words made the silence in the room worse. Prince Kaiden looked like he had been struck, and his anger wavered into a more solemn expression.

"Shuu, you..."

He felt tongue-tied, not knowing what he should say anymore.

Shuu’s expression was forcing him to make a choice he did not want to make.

"I... fine. I guess I can allow you to go. But only because I want you to get better in time for my wedding. I want you there no matter what."

Prince Kaiden agreed with a heavy heart, and Shuu nodded with a smile on his face.

"Thank you. I will keep you updated about my condition."

Shuu told him as he left the room. Prince Kaiden’s mood had soured, but Sera’s mood lifted all of a sudden.

She suddenly felt like the heavens were on her side. The biggest thorn in her side was removing himself without her having to do anything. All she had to do was sit back and make sure she did not fumble Prince Kaiden.

’I am truly the chosen one. I have overcome my challenges and come out on top. Now, it will be a flower-filled road ahead of me from here on.’
