[BL]The Hero and his Party Won't Let Me Go-Chapter 62: Ch : Taking Shuu’s side
Prince Kaiden’s comment made Shuu feel conflicted. He picked up his teacup and drank a little before he felt his stomach twist itself in an upsetting manner.
"I...would rather not. I just want to rest in my room..."
Shuu complained, but the disapproving glances he got from others around him told him that he might have made a mistake.
"I cannot believe he rejected her sincere offer."
"Who does he think he is? He might be Prince Kaiden’s previous companion, but to reject an offer from the future empress..."
"He is so arrogant. I guess he is getting a little ahead of himself now that Prince Kaiden is showing him attention..."
Shuu held back his flinch at these words.
He knew that Prince Kaiden was paying attention to him because of the companion mark and nothing more. This closeness was temporary, and once Prince Kaiden lay with Lady Sera, he would forget about Shuu completely.
He pushed his disappointment down and remained quiet.
"Shuu, you cannot just shut yourself in your room. Just try a tea party. Just once will do."
Prince Kaiden insisted, and Shuu felt like he had to comply. Thankfully, Nero was by his side to support him.
"Alright, in that case, I will be Shuu’s partner this time. You will be busy escorting Lady Sera, and Liam is...too busy."
Nero’s words caused Prince Kaiden’s expression to darken for a second before he pulled back with a surprised flinch.
Even he did not know why he was feeling like this. He just knew that he did not feel good about Shuu being escorted by anyone else to the tea party.
’Huh...Do I...want to escort Shuu? But what about Sera-?’
Sera’s innocent eyes looked back at him. The golden looked so pure and like Shuu’s that his heart immediately melted.
"Alright. That will work well. Shuu, I am looking forward to seeing you all dressed up."
Prince Kaiden smiled, but Shuu did not reply back. He just pushed his food around, and the lunch continued in a nice and soft silence.
Everyone kept an eye on Prince Kaiden and his behaviour, but it remained the same. Most people did not think much of it, but those who had known him since childhood noticed the slight hint of hesitation the prince showed when it came to Shuu.
And they all had one collective thought-Shuu needed to go, and they needed to solidify Lady Sera’s position as the next empress soon.
The maids looked at each other before they carried a message to Sera from the other side of the table. She looked at her father, who nodded at her, and she quickly brought up the topic that her father had asked her to.
"Ah, by the way, I wanted to ask you something-how long are you going to use the guest quarters in the royal palace? I was about to have some guests over soon, and I wanted to use those quarters..."
Sera’s words were clear, and there was no mistaking her intentions. She was asking Shuu when he was going to leave the royal palace, and with a deadline being provided, she was forcing him to make a decision.
But neither her tone nor her face showed it.
"I...will leave as soon as I am allowed to. Truthfully, I don’t feel comfortable staying in the royal palace either. It’s a little...suffocating..."
Shuu’s words caused Prince Kaiden’s words to get stuck in his throat. He had been about to offer Shuu a place in his own quarters, but he paused.
He shot Nero a look that asked his familiar to meet him later, and Nero nodded back in acknowledgment.
Finally, dinner ended, and everyone got up.
"I will head back and start packing my stuff."
Shuu bowed and left the gathering. People snickered as he left the table, and most of the ones making fun of him were Lady Sera’s friends.
"Did you hear him? He said he will pack."
"Of course. The maids do not like him anyway, so he will have to do his own work."
"I heard that they ignore him if he asks for anything. They are doing the right thing, putting him in his place."
The noise was so loud that Prince Kaiden felt his head ache. He also felt irritated hearing what Shuu had been going through.
But before he could act, Sera held his arm and dragged his attention toward herself.
"Kaiden, will you come to accompany me for dress shopping? I would like to get a new one made for this special occasion."
Sera specifically acted cute to get Prince Kaiden to agree. People were looking at her with soft expressions as they watched her interact with Prince Kaiden.
"A new dress? Sure, it will be good. We should get Shuu to come with us as well. Since he is from the temple, he does not have much...and I did not have time to buy him much on the journey either...that reminds me, I have the flower that will cure your illness. You should take it as soon as you can, alright? We should have the medicine made right now-!"
"Prince Kaiden, you cannot...! I mean, we should wait a little after the wedding. What if Sera gets side effects or something? I want to secure her future first."
Sera’s father spoke up from the other side of the table.
He looked startled at the fact that his daughter would be made to take the medicine that would cure her.
At any other time, this would have seemed suspicious, but it was a well-established fact that he was a protective parent, so this was not out of line for him.
"Hmm, alright. If this is what father-in-law and Sera want, then we will do it like this. Anyway, I will invite Shuu tomorrow for the dress selection, and I will pick you up then."
Prince Kaiden smiled at Sera, and she nodded with a blush on her face.
She did not like the fact that she would have to share Prince Kaiden’s attention with someone like Shuu, but it was a good time for her to show off her beauty and unique features and put others to shame. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
