Everyone looked at Liam with a begging expression. They asked him to continue to reason with their emperor. But Liam could see that no matter what he said, there would be no reasoning with the Emperor.

Kaiden had already lost his mind the second Shuu disappeared right in front of his eyes. And the world that had pushed him to that point was an enemy in the emperor’s eyes.

Right now, all anyone could do was fight for their own survival.

"A-Ahhhh. Someone, save me-!"

Someone yelled from the other side of the room and everyone watched as the guard and the noble were torn apart right in front of their eyes.

Liam suddenly felt shocked once more and his desire to live made him beg the emperor again.

Before he could open his mouth, the air suddenly hummed and Reina’s face appeared in the air.

"Hello, can anyone listen to me? T-This is an emergency and we need backup. Our nation is being attacked by waves and waves of monsters. Is anyone listening to me-?"

"I heard you, Reina. Unfortunately, every place is the same right now. So do your best to survive, alright?"

Emperor Kaiden told her with a smile on his face and then the call was crushed. People watched as Emperor Kaiden walked away from them with a smile on his face. Yunn followed Kaiden and Caelis, and Princess Danielle looked confused, but ultimately chose to follow Yunn as well.

The rest of the people turned to look at Duke Inferno, the person they had followed until now and trusted as well.

"D-Duke Inferno, what should we do now? You said that it will all turn out alright if we followed you and helped your son ascend the throne. What happened to that promise?"

Someone immediately grabbed Duke Inferno by his collar and shook him.

"Let go of me. Do you want me to kill you for this insolent behaviour-?"

The Duke tried to push that man away, but was unable to. And that man was not the only one who had grievances with the Duke.

Others started to crowd the Duke as well until he felt like he could not breathe. This was all getting too much and Liam finally took charge of the situation.

"Everyone, calm down for now. We all need to get to the temple. They are the only ones who can provide safety for us at the moment. Priest, can I trouble you to help us out for now?"

Liam asked and the priest looked taken aback by the request.

But in the end, the priest nodded with a little hesitation.

"I...should be able to get us there...I hope."

There was not a lot of confidence in the priest’s voice, but that was fine. Who would be confident in such a situation?

They reached the temple somehow, and Saintess Rosalyne immediately came out to greet them all.

Duke Inferno clutched her shoulder and held her in place. His eyes looked at the Saintess with faint desperation.

"T-This is all a dream, right? We will wake up soon, right? Saintess, tell me that this nightmare will end for us soon."

The Duke asked in a desperate voice but the Saintess looked lost. She bit her lip and placed her own hand on the Duke’s shoulder.

"I am afraid that I cannot guarantee such a thing for you. The goddess stopped responding to my words a long time ago. Now, we can only pray and hope for a miracle."

Her words caused everyone’s hopes to be dashed. But Liam was not willing to give up now.

"Saintess, can we contact Lady Reina? I think we might be able to do something about this situation if we all combine our strength."

Liam promised and the Saintess nodded before she quickly called Lady Reina.

Reina looked drained as well, but her eyes shone as she looked at Liam.

"I hope you are contacting me because you have good news for me, Liam."

She sounded hopeful, but cautious at the same time. Liam shook his head as he looked at her and that made Lady Reina let out a bitter smile.

"I am afraid that it’s not good news, Reina. Emperor Kaiden has lost his mind because Shuu died. But we have not lost it all. If we can bring Shuu back-"

"A dead person cannot be revived without destroying this world. That’s the first rule of magic."

Reina interrupted Liam and his face fell. There truly seemed to be no way out.

But just when he was about to lose all hope, Reina spoke again.

"There...is a way for us to be able to track Shuu’s soul down. We might not be able to bring him back, but if we know where his soul is headed, maybe we can negotiate with the emperor?"

That...seemed like something they could try. So Liam agreed with a hopeful look.

"Alright, let’s try. It’s not like we have any other option to work with here anyway."

Of course, Reina was not the only one to have this thought. Kaiden wanted to track Shuu down as well.

But unlike the humans, he was bound by a lot of restrictions which made it impossible for him and Caelis to do it.

"Tsk, I want to crush that goddess right now. But if I do, then I know I will lose Shuu’s soul forever. So I need to wait a little longer..." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

It was so hard for Kaiden to wait, but he needed the goddess to guide Shuu’s soul for him since he could not do that himself.

Everyone sat in silence but it was only Princess Danielle who dared to speak.

"B-But will it really be fine? Shuu won’t want this world to be destroyed. Maybe you should let him-"

Yunn immediately put his hand on Danielle’s mouth to make sure she wouldn’t speak nonsense. That saved her life and she knew it.

Emperor Kaiden was not in the mood to listen to her or anyone else talk. And unfortunately, this world was doomed the moment it chose Shuu as its enemy.
