(BL)Alpha Made-Chapter 561: You can’t just spring that on us!
"What? What the hell?! You never gave a whiff as if you were going to do it!" Rose came back after settling down her child, her eyes bright as Ford cried quietly.
"I’m so happy that you were able to find someone that you wanted to share this special bond with, Andy. Congratulations to you two." Ford was in tears, a beta man with an alpha woman who both taught him about love. Andrew felt his eyes water and he sniffed.
"Thank you for saying so. We...we’ve been talking about it a lot more in that last little bit. I finally...finally got over the block in my mind that was left after Mom’s disastrous marking and everything that entailed." Andrew admitted. There was a pause on the other side of the phone and Andrew closed his eyes. Was that okay to admit? He didn’t want to put more of a burden on them when May was just recovering from her new condition.
"Oh Andy." It was Ford, his voice breathless. "You never told us that it affected you that deeply. You should have said something earlier! I know that your Mom would never have wanted you to have such a negative feeling about mates and marks." Ford sounded like he was crying and May let out a harsh breath over the phone.
"Ford, sweetie, I can’t see how Andy couldn’t have formed a negative mindset around it. I’m sure in his mind, he thought that it was the mark alone that made his Mom sick and took her away from him. I could never blame Andy for wanting to keep that from us. That’s a hard topic to discuss." May’s voice was soft, warm. "Thank you for telling us, Andy." May’s soft voice made Andrew’s chest ache.
"How is Maxy holding up? He’s okay? Not infected?" It was Rose who spoke up, an expert in the field if there ever was one.
"Rose!" Jordan chided, clearly thinking she was speaking out of turn. Andrew gave a soft laugh, opening his eyes to peek at the mark on the back of Maxwell’s neck.
"It’s healing nicely. No issues on our part. Helps that we tried to keep clean as much as possible on the honeymoon. We were around a lot of water." Andrew said. Andrew watched as Maxwell shivered at the gentle touch of Andrew’s finger on the back of his neck.
"Knock it off." Maxwell warned quietly, no heat in his gaze as he glared at Andrew over his shoulder. Andrew felt a shudder shake his body. He wanted to devour Maxwell again.
"That’s good. It rarely happens, but I just remembered a case when a mark did get infected and it did not end well for the omega. So? How does it feel to have an omega all to yourself?" Rose asked, clearly teasing both Andrew and Maxwell. Andrew and Maxwell were lost in the moment, staring at each other in silence as the air heated between them.
"Mm. It’s good. Maxwell’s the only one for me, so it’s not like there will be any other omegas after him." Andrew bit his tongue, wanting to say that if there were any omegas after Maxwell, they would be their own children. He didn’t want to get their hopes up, even if Andrew was certain that Maxwell was with child.
The only people who would know about it would be Michael and Maxwell’s omega Doctor. That was it until Andrew was certain everything was safe. Mentally, Andrew was already running to the store after dropping Maxwell off at work tomorrow to go pick up pregnancy tests to have them ready.
May chuckled.
"I expected nothing less from our boy. Maxy, are you feeling alright? You’re not in pain?" May asked and Maxwell shifted in Andrew’s arms slightly. Andrew was curious what he was going to say. They hadn’t spoken about how Maxwell was feeling about it beyond that he was happy with the outcome. Andrew had noticed Maxwell’s shift in behaviour once they had gotten into town and how he was constantly looking around in the airports as well. Maxwell hadn’t spoken up though, so Andrew held his tongue.
"I...I’m okay. Just...it’s rather strange, you know? I’ve been so sensitive since I became an omega, even started my own company to make my own drugs because I was so bound by my own body that now...it just feels a little strange, you know? I can’t smell anyone else. I can’t feel anyone else. It’s a bit like losing a limb I didn’t know I had." Andrew stared at the back of his head, worried. "I don’t regret it, of course. I never would, but it’s going to take some adjusting to get used to." Maxwell told them.
"I see." May said.
"I understand. It’s a bit overwhelming, isn’t it?" Jordan spoke up. "It’s not often spoken about either. I don’t think most omegas are as sensitive as you are, Maxy, but I can see what you mean. Rose commented that I was more clumsy after we bonded. I did gain my balance back over time." It was an interesting insight that Andrew hadn’t considered.
"Hmm. Have you spoken to any of your researchers about this phenomenon, Maxy?" Andrew asked carefully. "I think this is rather interesting. There might be something to it, too." Andrew said. "I wonder if the reason that some omegas get so sick when taking suppressants is because they are feeling dizzy from something similar to what Jordan felt? Like he’d lost his balance, like vertigo was playing up their symptoms?" Andrew suggested and Maxwell turned, staring at Andrew.
"Oh god, I need to write that down now." Maxwell muttered and Rose and May let out a laugh.
"You’re supposed to still be on your honeymoon, Maxy." Rose scolded, but he was already not listening. He was holding onto his phone, typing away in an email that had no subject or receiver yet. Andrew just smiled.
"It’s a good thing, Rose. If we can help more people, the better that is, right? After all, aren’t the suppressants supposed to mimic what being bonded feels like? Now that our super sensitive Maxy is off the market, he can help guide his people from the other side." Andrew said. Maxwell nodded along to his words, his fingers still flying. "Maxy agrees, he’s just focused on typing at the moment." Andrew told the others.
"I hope it helps. I know that from the omegas that I’ve spoken to on forums that sensitivity for omegas is getting worse." Jordan added. "Your medicine helps a lot, but I feel bad for those who are even more sensitive and resistant to drugs." Jordan said and Andrew couldn’t help but agree. He knew Maxwell felt the same.
Maxwell had made a great deal of progress by being who he was. Stubborn, driven, focused. He wanted a better world for omegas so he used his connections and power to get what he wanted. It just happened to be that it was a success, but Andrew could only imagine what would have happened if he had failed.
Not that he ever thought anything Maxwell touched would fail. Look at Andrew, after all. He’d been a beta when he’d first met Maxwell, and now here he was, true alpha, mated, married, and working on starting a family. That was all because of Maxwell’s touch, and Andrew wouldn’t let anyone else say otherwise.
"I hope so too. Jordan, can I pick your mind a bit more on what your symptoms were after you bonded? If that’s alright with you, of course." Maxwell asked, his ears turning pink.
"I would have no problem with that. Um, is it okay if I bring Fern with me?" He asked and Maxwell chuckled.
"I wouldn’t assume anything else. I’m also sure the team would love to see another little baby. They all have baby fever." Maxwell said, looking up. Andrew caught his face in profile and his heart melted.
He looked like he’d been bitten by the baby bug as well. All soft eyes, sweet lips and flushed skin.
"Perfect. You just let me know what time works best for you. Outside of appointments for Fern, I have a lot of free time now that I’m out of the hospital and not allowed to work on any projects for another few weeks. Doctors order since I usually work with heavy mediums." Jordan told them through the phone.
"I’ll see what my schedule is like once I get into work tomorrow. It’s going to be chaotic, even with my father and brother helping me, so it might not be until next week. Is that alright?" Maxwell and Jordan spoke a bit more about logistics before they got pulled away by a Fern who needed his daddy to settle down.
Jordan’s sigh sounded exasperated, but Andrew was sure that if he saw his face he would be glowing with happiness. Andrew wanted that moment for them too.
"Good night everyone. It was good to speak to you and we’ll catch up now that we’re back from our honeymoon. May, you better be resting. I’ll be making sure." Andrew threatened and knew that it was a threat. May’s grumbles were half-hearted at best. She would never turn down a visit from Andrew.
Andrew had wanted to call Kim and Jenny as well, but it had gotten later into the evening then he had intended. So instead of calling them, he sent them a text letting them know that they were back from their honeymoon. That they had wanted to call them that night but the other phone calls went on too long. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Andrew didn’t want to reveal the news through a text, but it would be better if he did that then keep them in the dark since he knew that Luis and Amir didn’t have small mouths. They would want to brag about Maxwell being marked and bonded.
So, Andrew told them that they had bonded officially, and gave them one little bit more information. That Maxwell was certain that they were fated mates, had known that Andrew was it for him from the moment that he had met him so there was no way that Andrew and Maxwell were not going to end up in each other’s lives. It was sweet, it was cute, and he hoped it made up for the lack of a phone conversation.
He also let them know that he knew a bit about what happened to his family that came to ’visit’ but that Thomas and Luis were being a bit cagey about it. He hoped that they had more information that they wanted to share, and that he wanted to confirm that Nicole and Noah were alright with the roles that they had played in this.
He didn’t receive anything right away, so Andrew just assumed that they had gone to bed already. Not unsurprising, Kim and Jenny worked a demanding job and they had two kids. They probably had to go to sleep early to get any proper rest. Andrew didn’t know. He wasn’t a parent, he was just guessing.
Maxwell and Andrew went about getting the house ready for the night as they got ready for bed. It was nice to be home after being moved about as much as they had. It was made even better when Maxwell was tucked against his chest, in their sheets on their bed.
"Goodnight, my lovely husband." Andrew whispered. He’d been testing out new words of endearment for Maxwell and this one seemed to make him wiggle the most. As if to prove it, Maxwell grumbled, tucking himself tighter against Andrew’s bare chest.
"Goodnight, Baby." Maxwell muttered. Ah, life couldn’t get better than this.
