Chapter 321: A narrowed down list
Andrew felt like while he had gotten an education on rings and the like yesterday, today he was actually getting a true lesson. Maxwell was kind, patient, but firm. He went through several types of rings, several stones, everything. By the end of this hour-long presentation, Andrew had a very detailed understanding of what Maxwell didn’t want.
He didn’t want a solitary stone. He didn’t want something with a super thin band. He didn’t want anything red or yellow or pink. If the ring had gems embedded into the band, he didn’t want the whole ring to be made that way. He didn’t really like yellow gold. Thought it didn’t suit him.
The list went on, and Andrew made sure he got every little thing. His head was spinning, and he was thinking that it was a damn miracle that with the few designs that Andrew felt like he liked, none of them met the criteria of a ’bad ring’ in Maxwell’s eyes.
He was hoping to chalk it up to him knowing his partner, but Andrew wasn’t going to say that too soon. He still had a chance to ruin if this was a good or bad ring for Maxwell still.
Maxwell finished his little presentation by saying he was happy with any ring that he received, and Andrew had just laughed. Yeah. Sure. There was a reason he had asked for this, so that he could weed out what not to get him. Andrew wanted to brag that he had maybe been doing a good job, but he also wanted it to be a surprise, so he held his tongue.
He had no fucking clue what he wanted to do yet. Not a single clue. He had some undefined things he was considering, but he was going to have to lock himself away for a little bit to go over those plans. He even told Maxwell as much, and Maxwell just sighed, closed his laptop and rested his hand against his chin.
"Go on then. You’re the one behind. I can wait for you to figure that out. I have some work I need to do involving our move, so take your time." He told him, his eyes warm and Andrew darted away. Maxwell watched Andrew leave, a smile on his face as Andrew hid himself in the bedroom, using his phone and all the info that Amir’s grandmother had given him the day before to find what he needed.
~
He thought his head was going to spin off when he came back to the living room 3 hours later. He’d tucked his ideas away into a spot he was sure that Maxwell wouldn’t look at in the next two days. Safety so that he could then move them to his workplace. He knew that there was a high chance that he would poke around and try to find out where they were, but he also knew how much this meant to Andrew.
Andrew was banking on that.
When he came back out, he searched for Maxwell. He wasn’t in the living room, or the dining room like he had expected. That was normally where he had set up when he had a lot of work to do. Instead, he found his adorable, hard working boyfriend tucked into the little nook that Andrew had sort of customized for him in the kitchen. He was wrapped up in a blanket, a headset out as he barked orders out while on a phone call, and typing away on his computer.
He was wrapped up in a blanket, one that Andrew had put there for him because it was a nice and fuzzy one and Maxwell often got cold. His slippers were placed nicely underneath him, his legs tucked up under him as he worked. Andrew paused after finding him, leaning against the doorway of the kitchen just so that he could watch him. He was so precious. He was worth every grey hair he was going to get from worrying about what kind of ring would suit him.
Maxwell didn’t notice him right away, too busy being upset with someone on the other line to notice him. When he did, it was subtle. Maxwell’s nostrils flared before he jerked his head up, glancing around. It was cute to notice that Maxwell smelt him before he saw him, and when he did lay eyes on Andrew, his expression softened. Even his tone wasn’t as harsh.
"How’s my busy businessman?" Andrew asked quietly as he approached, pushing off of the doorway to make his way over. Maxwell chuckled, pushing the mic up as he reached for Andrew, pulling him down to kiss him.
Andrew didn’t realise it was a video call until he heard several gasps and he froze. Maxwell wasn’t bothered in the slightest. His smile reached his eyes, warm and soft as he stroked Andrew’s jaw.
"Much better now that his boyfriend is around." Maxwell told him softly, before he glanced at the video. There were several screens, and Andrew felt his face heat. Maxwell gave a soft, cocky smile. "Would you be a dear and make me some tea, Baby?" Maxwell asked and Andrew swallowed, pulling himself out of frame and nodded. Maxwell was significantly less stressed now that Andrew was around and moving about in the kitchen.
Andrew did as he was told, more in a daze because Maxwell...it felt like Maxwell had been showing him off. It wasn’t a surprise, Maxwell had made it pretty clear at his brother’s wedding that he was doing the same thing, but this was...
This was in the privacy of his own home, their own home. It felt more intimate. More...personal. Andrew felt embarrassed unlike all of the other times. He wasn’t ashamed, there was no way he could be with such a hot man as his partner. He was just flustered. It was different when Maxwell behaved like he normally did with him behind closed doors with others around.
His heart wouldn’t stop racing in his chest.
Andrew brought over the tea that Maxwell asked for, and once more Maxwell pulled him down, giving him a kiss in clear view of everyone else as he took the hot cup of tea from him.
"Thank you, Baby." Maxwell said and Andrew nodded, his face burning. Maxwell laughed. "Embarrassed? That’s cute." Andrew turned away, covering his face.
"You’re on call! Should you be talking like this?" Andrew asked and Maxwell laughed.
"Have you even checked to see who I’m on call with?" Maxwell asked and Andrew shook his head.
"No. That’s an invasion of privacy." Andrew was offended that the man would even consider that he would do that. Maxwell’s smile grew.
"Andy, I’m on a call with most of my family and the construction crew." Maxwell told him. Andrew felt his face flush even more.
"That doesn’t make it easier, Max!" It actually only made it worse for Andrew, because the crew didn’t know what Andrew was like, but Maxwell’s family did. Andrew groaned, moving away from him as Maxwell laughed.
"Come back here. Don’t run away!" Maxwell called with a laugh and Andrew waved a hand at him. He moved towards the kitchen, pulling out the meat he had taken out to prepare dinner with. Andrew knew his face was flushed, his heart was racing, and it wasn’t like Maxwell was being shy about declaring that they were together. He had made it clear ever since he learned how Tracey had treated him that he was going to act almost exactly opposite to her.
That didn’t mean that Andrew was used to it when they were at home. Maxwell normally drew a pretty hard ’work’ and ’personal’ line. This...blurred it all.
"I have to make dinner." Andrew muttered and Maxwell chuckled.
"He has to make dinner. Sorry. He’s not coming back to say hi." Maxwell told whoever had asked him a question. "No no, it’s fine. I can just get more kisses from him later." Maxwell’s confident voice washed over Andrew and he felt his shoulders hunch.
He was right. He had every reason to brag. It was just embarrassing to hear him say it while he was in the room.
Andrew did his best to tune them out, pulling on his apron and working away on what he had planned for dinner, as well as doing some prep work for their lunches.
"Andy? What colour do you want the cabinets in the kitchen to be?" Maxwell asked and Andrew looked up. He squinted for a second, before he sighed.
"Something easy to clean." He replied. Maxwell repeated what he said, and then he laughed.
"Mom just called you too practical." Maxwell told him and Andrew chuckled.
"Sorry white isn’t practical." Andrew commented and Maxwell burst into laughter.
"I’m telling her you said that." Maxwell warned and Andrew paused, before he looked up and found Maxwell smiling at him. Warmth. Happiness, and Andrew felt himself smile. He dropped his gaze, making sure he didn’t hurt himself as he worked.
"Tell her. It’s okay. I’m sure she understands that we are different people. Plus, the colour won’t matter much since it needs to be functional for us to use." Andrew said and heard a long, loud sigh from Maxwell.
"That’s it. I’m taking away your decorating rights." Maxwell told him and Andrew looked up, furrowing his brows.
"What? Why?" Andrew asked and Maxwell gave him a look. ƒгeewёbnovel.com
"You just said that the colours won’t matter much since it needs to be functional. Why can’t it be both? It might take longer to make, but is that going to be a problem for us?" Maxwell asked and Andrew froze. Maxwell was right. Time and...money weren’t really an issue. Andrew was just so used to making sure that he valued the actual use of an item over what it looked like that he hadn’t even considered it.
Maxwell was looking at Andrew, all smug as the other man came to that realisation. And then the water for the pasta boiled over, and Andrew had to focus again.
"Fine. You take over design options. You already know what I’m picky on, what I won’t budge on, and those things." Andrew said and Maxwell grinned.
"They are the first things being installed outside of Richard’s little suite. Custom made. Along with the bed." Andrew was surprised he said that with his parents on the other line. He could tell that Maxwell’s parents had asked and he grinned, turning to his parents. "Well, we had to get custom shelves so that everything could match our height difference. Andrew was very insistent on it." Maxwell’s gaze slid to Andrew, the truth there, and Andrew swallowed.
He coughed as he adjusted himself in his pants. The damn temptress. Andrew never had to worry about getting hard for the man, that was sure.
"What are we having for dinner, Andy? They’re asking." Maxwell changed the subject easily, that little playful smirk on his face, in his eyes telling Andrew he knew exactly what he had done and now he was just playing with Andrew. Andrew sighed, but easily followed along with his plan. It hurt no one, and Andrew liked that Maxwell was getting so playful with him.
He just needed to get used to how playful he could get.
