Chapter 564: Chapter 485: Picking Up Trouble (Second Update)

"I’m Lao Ba’s wife!" You pouted and asked, "What’s his trouble? Don’t tell me you’re jealous because he’s younger and better-looking than you, so you poisoned him."

"You guessed right. He does have poison in his body, but I didn’t poison him."

You gripped the phone tightly. "Ah!? Seventh Brother, what should we do then?"

"Where’s my Fourth Sister-in-law?"

"Taking care of the kids. Those two little troublemakers are crying their lungs out."

"I’ll figure it out myself then."

"Seventh Brother, you must save him... beep beep..."

You pursed your lips, grabbed Yi Luowa’s phone, and headed out.

Yi Luowa asked, "Whose call was that?"

"My Seventh Brother’s... nothing much, just asking if we’ve gotten home yet." You winked at her.

Yi Luowa, understanding you had things you couldn’t say, didn’t ask further. She lowered her head to play with the two little ones, Ziyuan and Sangyu, who were happily squealing in their mother’s arms.

As soon as Tong Airui stepped inside, laughter greeted him, and his deep-set eyes lit up with a smile.

"Daddy’s home." Yi Luowa, hearing the footsteps, turned to look at Tong Airui.

Tong Airui stopped three meters away from his wife and children.

Sangyu looked at her father, "giggling" as if she wanted to say something to him.

Tong Airui’s heart instantly melted, and he softened his voice to speak to his daughter, "Sweetheart, Daddy’s still sick; I can’t hold you, what should we do?"

"Giggle..." Sangyu blinked her big eyes and stared unwaveringly at her father. Ziyuan glanced at his father, then burrowed into his mother’s arms, grabbing her shirt at her chest and shaking it hard.

Tong Airui’s lips twitched slightly at the sight of his son’s hands.

"Is Ziyuan hungry?" Fourth Master asked.

Tong Yao glanced at the time. "Technically, it’s not mealtime yet, but based on that gesture, it looks like he wants to eat."

"Sister Li—" Tong Airui called upstairs.

Two nannies responded and hurried down, carrying the two children upstairs.

Finally liberated from her son’s mischievous grasp, Fourth Master exhaled deeply and sat next to Yi Luowa.

Tong Yao asked with concern, "Rui’er, is your health improving?"

Tong Airui smiled, "Yes, much better. I think in a couple of days I’ll be able to hold those two little rascals."

"Mom, where’s Connie?" Yi Luowa had been wanting to ask about Connie since she hadn’t seen her after returning, but had been distracted by the children.

"She went to the office with Nuo’er, said she couldn’t stay home."

"She’d better be careful. It’s only been a little over a month; it’s still a dangerous period." Yi Luo glanced at You. "Hand me the phone; I need to call Fifth Sister-in-law."

You quickly handed over the phone.

Yi Luowa took the phone to the balcony, first calling Connie to learn she was on her way back, and then calling Mai Zekai.

"Seventh Brother, you called earlier. What’s going on?"

"Fourth Sister-in-law, the person we saved today is poisoned with a rare toxin. I don’t even know what kind it is—Shanshan identified it after checking his toxic marks. He fainted because of this."

"What’s our plan?"

"Shanshan is contacting her mentor now; honestly, I’m out of solutions."

"Do your best to save him."

"Fourth Sister-in-law, I’m here to discuss this with you. We don’t know who he is; if things go south and his family demands answers, what should we say?"

Yi Luowa furrowed her brows slightly. "Doesn’t he have anything to prove his identity?"

"No, we’ve checked twice."

"...Seventh Brother, my take is to save him first. He can’t stay unconscious forever; once he wakes up, you deal with tracing his family. Record the entire treatment process—if anything unexpected happens, we’ll at least have evidence."

Mai Zekai sighed. "That’s the best we can do."

"Don’t worry about the money; I’ll cover the expenses."

"I know you’re loaded, but the hospital can handle the costs of saving him. Fourth Sister-in-law, Shanshan’s back; I’ll ask her about the latest update. Once there’s news, I’ll call you."

"Okay." Yi Luowa hung up and turned around, startled to find Tong Airui behind her.

Yi Luowa jumped nervously, patting her chest. "You walk so silently—you almost scared me to death!"

Tong Airui’s lips curled slightly. "Weren’t you calling Connie? Did you dial the wrong number?"

"No, I didn’t!" Yi Luowa glared at him. "Connie’s almost back; I kept the call short. Seventh Brother called earlier, but I was holding the kids and couldn’t answer—just now, I called him back. Does this explanation satisfy you?"

Fourth Master noticed her sour expression and hurriedly laughed, "I was just teasing you. Why are you mad?"

"Me mad? I explained everything thoroughly so Lord Tong wouldn’t get mad at me."

"Petty!" Tong Airui laughed and pinched her nose. He originally wanted to ask why she was personally covering the stranger’s medical expenses but wisely let it go.

"I wonder who’s really petty here!" Yi Luowa glanced at him. "You haven’t come home in days—why not spend more time with Mom?"

"Auntie is lecturing that fool You upstairs; she chased Mom and me away."

Yi Luowa tilted her ear toward the sounds upstairs. Hearing only Yan Zi’s voice and noting You wasn’t talking back made her relax. "Auntie wants to become a grandmother."

"That’s how people get when they’re old."

"Will we be like that when we’re old?"

"I won’t; you might."

Yi Luowa snorted. "Looking at this family, I can already imagine what you’ll be like when you’re old."

"I won’t end up like them!"

Yi Luowa sneered. Seeing Tong Aino’s car pull into the driveway, she laughed, "Connie’s back—I’ll go welcome her."

Seizing the opportunity, Yi Luowa dashed out.

Tong Airui smiled helplessly and followed her back to the living hall.

After dinner, Yi Luowa spent some time with the children, and after they fell asleep, she returned to her bedroom.

Not seeing Tong Airui, she immediately guessed he was in the study.

Yi Luowa took out her pajamas and had just changed when her phone rang.

Shanshan calling!

Yi Luowa hurriedly answered.

"Fourth Sister-in-law, the test results for that patient are back—they’re consistent with my diagnosis."

"Can he be saved?"

"With current medical advancements, this toxin can only be suppressed, not eliminated completely. Also, he’s already taking suppressive medication, but the dosage is too low to fully contain the poison, which is why he occasionally faints."

"So he’s not at risk of dying?"

"It’s not that simple—his situation is extremely critical!"

Yi Luowa scratched her head. "What do you mean by that?"

"Suppressive antidotes are themselves a kind of toxin. Once the patient stops taking them, he won’t live beyond three months."

"This is giving me the creeps—what kind of monstrosity is this? Give me the details; I want to warn our family to avoid exposure."

"Fourth Sister-in-law, don’t worry; our family won’t come into contact with this. This toxin is a byproduct of failed biological experiments and only high-level personnel could have been exposed. My mentor once treated a patient with this condition; otherwise, I wouldn’t even know about it."

"Is that patient still alive?"

"Yes, still alive."

"Good!" Yi Luowa climbed into bed. "Can you get your hands on that antidote?"

"My mentor has some; it’s already been shipped. It should arrive by tomorrow morning."

"Once it arrives, give it to him immediately so he can wake up. Once conscious, we can contact his family—the sooner we can send such a dangerous person away, the better."

"Understood, Fourth Sister-in-law. I’ll hang up now."

"Thanks for everything, Shanshan. Goodnight."

Yi Luowa hung up, slightly regretting her decision. Saving someone with such a big problem—she should’ve kept out of it.

But with her personality, how could she stand by and watch someone die? Frustrated, Yi Luowa knocked her head against the headboard.

She rolled around on the bed with her blanket for a while and was finally drifting off when Tong Airui pushed the door open.

"Asleep?" Fourth Master stood by the bed and, hearing her uneven breathing, asked with a laugh.

Yi Luowa pulled the covers over her head. "If you’d come in a minute later, I would’ve been asleep!"

"Then I’ll leave and come back when you’re asleep."

A small hand peeked out from under the blanket, impatiently waving him off.

Tong Airui chuckled as he placed her hand back under the covers and turned to leave.

Yi Luowa peeked out halfway from under the blankets. "You’re really leaving?"

Tong Airui turned to look at her. "I just came to check on you—I’ll probably be pulling an all-nighter tonight."

"Is something wrong? I just don’t believe Muta-sama is so dull as to call you over just to yell at you."

"The matter I’m dealing with right now has nothing to do with him."
