Becoming a Monster-Chapter 83: Inner Otaku
Chapter 83: Chapter 83: Inner Otaku
He was about to choose his initial class, which was warrior, to fill in the gaps in his physical stats. However, the mage class kept lingering in his mind. Given his high magic and spirit stats, using a magic-based class seemed logical.
’And I can essentially abuse my blood extraction more if I get more mana...I’ll just use my free attributes to focus on my body stats. I won’t get another chance at life and I know for certain that I would gain immediate results from this. Plus, it’s magic!’
Convinced he was making the right choice, he hurriedly confirmed his decision before he could have second thoughts.
[Host has confirmed the basic subclass Apprentice mage! +1 Magic and +1 spirit will be added to your stats per level. Choose your main talent between; Magic control, magic regeneration, and magic power.
Magic Control: Enhanced precision and efficiency in casting spells, making each spell more effective and less costly in terms of mana.
Magic Regeneration: Faster mana recovery, allowing for sustained use of magic over longer periods.
Magic Power: Increased potency of spells, making each cast significantly more powerful.]
’What? I didn’t get choices like this when I chose my class! But this is still good...I was concerned about not being able to recover my mana unless I only used potions.’ Noah chose to obtain magic regeneration as his main talent before switching over to choose his skill. With magic regeneration there was limitless potential with what he could accomplish, especially in regards to his ability Blood Essence. He had plans in mind to abuse the skill so he could expedite his companions’ skill progression while simultaneously increasing their mana reserves.
Noah smiled at the possibility of such abuse from his skills. With an even greater anticipation to choose his mage skill, he proceeded to scroll through his options. There were a plethora of basic skills, far more than he had as a monster tamer, which initially annoyed him. However, he calmed down when he considered that his creatures were essentially extensions of his skills.
’Huh? I thought there were a lot of skills, but it seems to be the same skill, but with just a different element for most of them..." He quickly glanced through the skills. For instance, there was Fireball, followed by Waterball, Poisonball, Lightning Ball, and so on.
After that, it was the same with Firebolt. He continued to browse through his options, discovering other skills that weren’t focused solely on attacking. There were weapon enchantment spells like Fire enchantment and Lightning enchantment, but he wasn’t interested in those types of spells, at least for now. His attention was drawn to the debuffs he found later on: Powerless Strength, Sluggish Agility, and Frail Constitution. Each skill targeted a specific stat, weakening his enemies in crucial ways. And there were counterparts that enhanced these same stats, amplifying his own abilities or those of his allies.
The potential these debuffs held was immense. He could cripple an opponent’s physical prowess, slow them down to a crawl, or weaken their resilience, making them far easier to defeat. In the heat of battle, these spells could turn the tide in his favor, giving him the strategic edge he needed.
Noah knew he didn’t have enough time to look through everything. He narrowed it down to three skills: Manabolt, Frail Constitution, and Minor Illusion. Each skill offered distinct advantages that catered to his strengths and the needs of his current situation.
Manabolt appealed to him because it likely cost less mana and, being purely mana-based, would help him improve his control. It also had stronger piercing power compared to Manaball, making it an effective offensive tool. He imagined using it to target the queen ant’s vulnerable points, piercing through her defenses with precision.
Frail Constitution, on the other hand, was a debuff that could weaken the queen ant and her minions. By reducing their durability, he could make them more susceptible to attacks from Fenrir and Arachne. This skill could tip the scales in their favor, allowing his creatures to dispatch the enemies more efficiently.
Minor Illusion intrigued him the most. The thought of battling with illusions fascinated him, and he realized the limits of the skill were only bound by his imagination. Illusions could deceive, distract, and disorient his enemies, giving him and his creatures a strategic advantage. He envisioned creating phantom allies, deceptive terrain, and false attacks to manipulate the battlefield.
’If it’s come down to this, then I’ll just choose the best skill for this situation. If the smaller ants’ shells were that hard, then I can just imagine how hard the Queen’s would be so the debuff would be a lot better in this regard.’
A few seconds passed and Noah had finally chosen his skill.
[Talent mana regeneration and mana bolt have been chosen!]
Noah couldn’t help but smile evilly when the system confirmed his choices when his thoughts differed entirely from what he said he needed.
’Screw it, sending out a huge spell is more badass, I can’t keep lying to myself!’ He yelled inwardly, embracing his desire for raw, overwhelming power. With that resolve, he made his final selection from the skill notifications.
[Mana Regeneration(Lvl 0)- By kickstarting your core to draw in the surrounding mana passively, you gain one mana per 5 minutes! The skill can be progressed by increasing its level.]
[Manabolt(Lvl 0)- By circulating your mana into your palms, you can release a destructive bolt to blast through the enemy. You can circulate even more mana to increase the damage. Requires five mana to activate the skill and twice the mana for every second you charge, up to a maximum of 3 seconds. Further charging of the skill can be increased by leveling up.]
Noah was completely satisfied with what he saw, but at the same time he was confused.
’Why am I suddenly getting so much more information than before? Even with my taming skills, the system told me how much mana I would need for the blood extraction. Urgh! I can worry about this later, I have an ant to kill.’
Boom!
Noah was jolted from his thoughts by the loud collision of two giant creatures. He looked ahead to find Fenrir clashing with the Queen ant in a frontal battle of strength, which shocked him to no end. Curious why Fenrir was fighting the Queen ant instead of its minions, he scanned the area. To his astonishment, not a single ant was left untouched. When he turned back to the two battling creatures, he had another realization: the Queen ant was much closer to him than before!
’What the fuck! How long was I choosing my class? It couldn’t have been that long,’ Noah exclaimed with a hint of fear. He hadn’t realized how absorbed he had become in his excitement, causing time to pass much more quickly than he thought.
Boom! ƒreewebɳovel.com
But he couldn’t stand in shock for long. He didn’t take his eyes off of Fenrir for more than a few seconds before seeing him getting tossed in the air by the Queen. If an ant could lift 10-50 times their weight, then it wasn’t hard to accept how the Queen was able to throw Fenrir the way she did. To Noah’s shock, after she tossed him away, the Queen paid no more attention to the ferocious wolf; her focus immediately shifted to him as she advanced his way.
"What did I even do to you?" He wondered aloud. He couldn’t comprehend why this creature was so fixated on him. It had been a while since he used his blood skill, and his small wound had already stopped bleeding, so he was confused as to why she was still intent on going after him.
From his shock, Noah took one step backward before steeling himself and lifting up his palm. Changes began to form in the area of his hand. Instead of the usual blue and white energy ball, a dark ball of energy, both dark and light purple, began to form.
Normally, when someone uses the skill, the ball forms to only the size of their palm, enlarging to the size of their entire hand after charging it for the full duration. However, when Noah used it, the size was already that of his hand.
Unfortunately, Noah wasn’t aware of this fact. He was too busy becoming hysterical at the realization that he was truly using magic. His heart raced with excitement and disbelief as he realized the sheer magnitude of power he was wielding. It was a moment straight out of the fantastical stories he had always loved, and now he was living it. Like a proper Otaku, he held his left wrist, which was circulating the spell, and channeled it for the full duration of three seconds, enlarging it even more.
To his surprise, the size grew to almost twice the size from before, nearly the size of a basketball. With trembling hands, Noah held the pulsating orb of energy, feeling its raw power coursing through him. He could hardly believe that he, a mere human, was capable of harnessing such magic. But there it was, tangible and real, glowing brightly in his palm.
By this time, the smaller group of students and the four remaining guards were all watching the scene unfold. No one knew what the skill was; even those who were mages and familiar with manabolt wouldn’t recognize Noah’s mana as completely different from that of a regular human. But that didn’t stop them all from gasping in shock and awe.
"MAANNNNAA BOOOLLTT!" With a resounding shout, Noah unleashed the full force of his magical prowess, sending the massive Mana Bolt hurtling towards Queen ant with unstoppable momentum. The air crackled with energy as the spell surged forth, its power unleashed in a dazzling display of magical might.
Everyone could hear him scream out his skill before witnessing the spell being released from his hand. Without bracing himself for the spell’s power, his body was launched backward, slamming into the ground.
The line zipped towards the Queen who was almost upon him before the ant and the bolt collided.
Boom!
A thunderous collision, rivaling the clash of Fenrir and the Queen moments prior, reverberated through the air. Then, an unexpected sight unfolded: the Queen’s head snapped upwards, propelling her body with a forceful momentum. The collision sent shockwaves rippling across the battlefield, leaving all momentarily stunned by the abrupt turn of events. With a resounding thud, the Queen crashed to the ground, her body convulsing, small cracks spider-webbing across her skull.
The scene left everyone watching speechless. It was then that the woman who had followed Neal, the same one who had assisted him in attacking Fenrir in the cafeteria, screamed out a flustered state.
"He....he said manabolt right? RIGHT??" She screamed, startling and annoying the people nearby who were still trying to recover from the shock.
"We all heard him say the damn skill, Katrina, what about it!" This time it was Neal’s turn to be obnoxious. Whenever it had something to do with Noah, he seemed to never be able to stay in character, but no one seemed to mind currently. Unlike her, who knew what the spell was since she also had it alongside her lightning bolt. It was the only reason she was almost traumatized from seeing the skill. Struggling to find the right way to convey to everyone to make them feel the same way she was feeling, she was only able to formulate a few words.
"That’s not what the spell looks like..."
