Becoming a Monster-Chapter 81: Arachne’s big Change
Chapter 81: Chapter 81: Arachne’s big Change
As Noah landed on the ground, barely fazed by the jump from the second floor, he couldn’t help but ponder his next move. With so many options ahead, choosing his next basic class weighed heavily on his mind. He felt the need to select a class that would compensate for his lacking physical stats in comparison to his stat defying mana and spirit, but was that truly necessary?
’This would be a perfect time to test out how much my magic and spirit affects my skills. These ants chose a great time to show themselves.’ He thought to himself.
However, before he could spring into action against the smaller ants, he remembered a more pressing matter. With a realization dawning upon him, he stood still and allowed his creatures to take charge of the fighting.
’There’s no point in saving their points anymore, and I need to get a feel for how much their stats have increased after being affected by my new skills...’ With that thought, he quickly checked both Fenrir’s and Arachne’s stats, allocating their attribute points without hesitation.

Before distributing their points, Noah anxiously viewed their attributes. He had high expectations to see his creatures’ exponential growth under his skills. However, Whilst distributing their stats, his eyes furrowed over the scrutiny of his attributes. The high numbers he was expecting to see weren’t there!
"Why are my skills not working?!" Noah asked himself in panic. His mind shut out everything else to uncover the irregularity. Instinctively, he looked back towards the skills in question, understanding that perhaps he wasn’t interpreting the skill well enough. There, he was able to gain a sense of clarity. His skills revolve around the use of his new skill, Blood Pact. Without directly forming the pact with his bonded creatures, both Arachne and Fenrir wouldn’t receive any benefits in return.
At least knowing the reason for the inadequacies helped return Noah’s fervor in allocating his creatures’ remaining stats, without the added turmoil.
With a renewed focus, Noah looked over each attribute, hoping to be able to earn one of his creatures another perk. With Fenrir’s stats the way they were, Noah was unable to achieve anything worth mentioning. Instead he opted to allocate four of his unassigned points into his stamina, aiming for a potential perk on his next level up, while adding the remainder to his strength, further increasing his lethality.
Although Arachne was another case, her strength was marginally close to reaching her first limit mark. Noah knew how much getting a perk to further enhance her lethal capabilities would mean to her. Unlike normally, Arachne couldn’t surpass this goal unless Noah used the overall attributes influenced from his title ’Insatiable Fighter’, giving her added bonus in her strength derived from his stamina.
With a clear plan in mind, one that seemed to be foolproof after careful consideration. Noah increased Arachne’s strength to forty-four, just enough to reach fifty stats overall when combined with the bonus provided by his title. And yet after placing in her points, he waited, and waited for a notification.
Confusion was the best fitting word to describe his current mood. ’This isn’t making any sense...what am I missing now?’ He asked himself, learning that the system couldn’t be compared to a game. Bugs and bad coding didn’t exist; if Arachne didn’t obtain a perk, then there must be a reason. Just like before, he went through the appropriate skill, re-reading the description of ’Insatiable Fighter’ to better understand where he went astray. As he pondered over its effects, a figurative lightbulb went off in his head.
"That can only be the reason....since ’Insatiable Fighter’ is technically a bonus provided by me, those points are not truly hers, unlike the attributes provided to me by the ’Immortal Body.’" A frown formed as Noah processed his own thoughts. Although he could understand the logic behind it, he couldn’t help feeling bitter that his hopes of helping Arachne become stronger quickly were thwarted.
But if anything concerned him about his creatures, it would have to be Fenrir’s health. Noah couldn’t help but look in Fenrir’s direction and observe the creature that appeared to be oblivious to his own condition.
Compared to the students’ group that struggled to break through the ants’ shells unless they utilized their abilities, Fenrir’s jaws alone were enough to crunch through the hard shells of the worker ants with ease. Although his teeth were able to tear through their exoskeletons, it still required Fenrir to bite with excessive force, creating loud audible crunctches whenever he chewed.
Noah shook his head when he saw Fenrir attempt to grab a soldier ant, intending to kill it the same way he had dispatched the others. However, after mere seconds the ant was submerged within its mouth, an agonizing whimper erupted from his beas, full of pain before Noah caught sight of Fenrir tossing the ant’s remains out of its mouth. Although the ant’s body was crushed into oblivion, Fenrir whimpers continued. Within its jaws, the ants head remained, its vice-like pincers firmly gripping Fenrir’s tongue, refusing to budge. It took a considerable amount of effort from the startled and confused beast to fully destroy the ants head, relieving itself from the nagging pain, which was all observed by Noah, who watched the scene with a pondering outlook.
’I guess even though he can regenerate, maybe he’s not able to regenerate the lost blood and that’s why his health is low? or maybe it’s not completely healing him as I thought it was....’ Noah wondered, his thoughts racing. He turned to inspect Arachne before a frown appeared on his face.
Noah noticed that Arachne wasn’t in any immediate danger due to her incredible speed and sensory hairs. In fact, she was probably the safest among everyone present, except for him. However, her problem wasn’t her safety; it was her inability to pierce through the ants’ tough shells. Without any strength-related skills, it took multiple stabs from her legs to breach their hides. Unlike Fenrir, who could easily withstand attacks, Arachne was vulnerable unless she used her webs to trap her opponents. Each time she attempted to kill an ant, she was interrupted before she could finish the job.
"Die! Die! Die?" Arachne’s voice wavered with stress as she repeatedly stabbed at the ants’ heads, mimicking the method she’d learned from killing zombies. However, it was proving ineffective against the ants’ tough exoskeletons. Her initial vigor was waning with each encounter.
"Arachne, come here!" Noah’s voice was firm but filled with concern. He couldn’t bear to watch her struggle any longer, fearing it would take a toll on her pride. Arachne flinched at his call, her body visibly slumping as she believed she had let him down. Despite her hesitation, she obediently returned to his side.
Noah could see the dejection in her eyes. Although her absence would put the students in danger, he still left everyone else to fend for themselves as he focused solely on Arachne.
"It’s not your fault that you aren’t able to keep up with Fenrir in killing these things." Noah rubbed Arachne’s head, but his words only deepened her dejection. He decided to save further reassurances for later. Instead, he placed his hand on his sword and pierced the palm of his hand just enough to bleed—a task that had become more difficult due to his strengthened body.
Noah began to circulate his mana into the wound, preventing the blood from leaking. As the mana infused with his blood, a single drop slowly formed. The drop, a rich purple hue, began to radiate a faint halo and released an intoxicating scent that drew the attention of the surrounding monsters.
Arachne’s curiosity peaked as she watched Noah cut himself. The smell of his blood captivated her entirely, overshadowing her curiosity. An irresistible urge to bite his finger surged within her, but she held back, sensing the scent growing stronger and more alluring as she waited.
The drop of blood grew larger until it reached the size of a human fingernail. Its color and radiance would likely instill fear and curiosity in the students if they saw it, casting doubts about Noah’s true nature. Once the drop reached its full size, Noah brought his palm to Arachne’s mouth. She lifted her head impatiently, allowing the drop to enter.
While Noah tended to Arachne, Fenrir was the first to stop in his tracks, irresistibly drawn to the scene. His enhanced senses made it easy for him to smell the allure of Noah’s blood even from a mile away. His body craved it, and before the students realized what was happening, their main heavy hitter had abandoned the fight and was rushing back to his owner.
"Wha? Where’s he going??" one of the students questioned, noticing the departure of the beast they both feared and relied on. Mark and the group saw it too, but they were too focused on the task at hand to let it distract them, despite their curiosity and fear.
Curious as to why Noah allowed his creature to leave a fight when that doesn’t seem to be his forte. To them, Noah was the sort of person who would try to kill everything for himself, a perception that only served to fuel their fear as more questions formed.
"Just keep fighting! That beast helped us out enough; we should be able to handle the rest," Ishii shouted, trying to encourage everyone. However even though his words meant well, it didn’t inspire them like he meant it too. At first they were in a state of fighting for their lives so they were putting their everything into the fight, but when Fenrir came and it seemed that he alone was going to take care of everything for them, they began to emotionally and mentally relax.
Switching back to their earlier intensity was almost impossible. Just as despair started to creep in, something unexpected happened. The alluring smell of Noah’s blood wasn’t just attracting his creatures.
’!’
As the students began to lose hope, a strange shift occurred. The ants below suddenly froze in their tracks, their tiny antennae twitching erratically. Their movements became synchronized, like a silent army awaiting a command. Then, as if on cue, their attention shifted, their antennae snapping sharply in Noah’s direction.
The Queen was the first to look in their direction, it was her interaction that made all of the other ants turn their attention to the source of the smell. The students, unaware of the reason behind this sudden change, were momentarily confused. However, Ailetta’s eyes widened with panic as she realized what was happening.
From her position, the Queen emitted a rapid, chirping sound, her abdomen vibrating frantically. Though Noah wasn’t paying attention to the specific signal, the message was clear: ’Bring me that food now!’
At the same time, Arachne began to experience the changes within her, courtesy of the Blood Pact. Her body glowed faintly as the mana from Noah’s blood coursed through her, enhancing her abilities and granting her a new skill, one intimately tied to Noah.
[Blood Pact formed with your tamed creature Arachne! Arachne can now be influenced by your skills.]
[Arachne has gained the skill ’Genetic synergy’ that is being shared by the host.]
[Arachne has activated Genetic synergy to gain the human? Trait. Skill, human tongue has been acquired and Arachne can now choose a basic class!]
[warning! Choosing a class will trigger a mutation, find a safe place before choosing!]
[Arachne chose the class assassin! Transformation will commence!]
Noah’s confusion boiled over as he processed the shocking notifications. "What the fuck just happened?" he cursed aloud, his voice tinged with exasperation.
"I only wanted to increase her stats..." he muttered, bewildered by the unexpected turn of events. Glancing towards Arachne, he watched in astonishment as webs seemingly materialized from behind her, swiftly cocooning her in a protective circle. The webs felt unnaturally strong under his touch, akin to metal that perhaps couldn’t be breached by even Fenrir.
"Grrr!" Noah spun around when he heard Fenrir growling behind him towards Arachne being entrapped in webs. Fenrir was prepared to destroy the webs entrapping Arachne before being stopped.
"Hold it right there! She’s ok! But we need to do something about them before any of us won’t be." He looked towards the large groups of ants coming their way, but his priority was the Queen. He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw her rooted to the same spot but her gaze was staring daggers into his body.
To his surprise, the students that he thought would use this chance to flee were actually chasing behind the ants heading towards him. His pupils easily spotted Ailetta leading the charge with two of the downed soldier ants in front.
He couldn’t help but smile warmly seeing that even now she would do so much for him, but his face was quickly filled with resolve when he held out his palm towards Fenrir, sending all the creatures in the area into a frenzy once again.
"Alright, we’ll try this again...don’t let me down big guy." freёweɓnovel_com
