Becoming a Monster-Chapter 80: Perks of Awakening
Chapter 80: Chapter 80: Perks of Awakening
"Why is it always them...?" Noah muttered in exasperation, his gaze first falling on the grouped-up students in the distance. However, his attention was quickly drawn to Fenrir, who still held a woman in his jaws, the woman having passed out once again. The sight puzzled him, but his confusion deepened as he observed the other guards nearby, all clad in similar attire and armed with guns.
Intent on opening the window, Noah exerted more force than he realized. The window shot open abruptly, accompanied by the shattering sound of breaking glass as shards flew in all directions. Instinctively, Noah closed his eyes and shielded his face with his hand, bracing for the pain of glass cutting into his skin. Yet, to his surprise, there was no pain at all.
When he cautiously opened his eyes, he found himself unscathed, not a scratch on his face or hand despite the chaos of shattered glass surrounding him.
All of Noah’s attention shifted inward as he became consumed by curiosity about himself. The chaos outside became secondary to his own internal investigation.
"Fenrir, drop it," Noah commanded, his tone devoid of emotion, as if the woman in Fenrir’s jaws held little significance to him.
In immediate response to Noah’s command, Fenrir’s mouth slackened, and he obediently released the woman, who fell to the ground, coated in his saliva. She lay motionless, her condition uncertain, but the faint rise and fall of her chest indicated she was still breathing.
Having given his order, Noah remained rooted in place by the window. His focus was not on the events unfolding around him, nor even on himself. Instead, he was consumed by a desperate desire to uncover what he had gained from what he could only describe as an awakening.
[Host is ongoing his transformation, Negative ailments have been found in the host body, interfering with subject change. Host body is undergoing a physical, cellular, and spiritual change. The ailment has been removed in the process.]
[Host has finished the transformation of obtaining a new advanced class ’Monster Evolutionist’! You now gain three magic, and two spirit per level up instead, as well as an extra addition of 5 free attributes to spend per level up!
Three main class skills have been obtained and previous class skills have been modified; Blood Essence, Bloodline Extraction and Guiding Pathways have been added!
Blood Essence: By utilizing your blood as a catalyst, you can infuse mana into your bloodstream to replicate the effects of a mana core. When combined with an actual mana core, this ability enables the core to become compatible with your bonded creatures at a reduced mana cost. The mana cost for replicating the effects of a tier 0 core without a mana core is 50 mana, while tier one replication costs 100 mana. When using a mana core, the mana expenditure is reduced to 5 mana for a tier 0 core and 10 mana for a tier 1 core.
Bloodline Extraction: Through the use of your blood as a conduit, you can transfer traits and abilities from a dying or recently deceased creature to your tamed creatures. Each application of Bloodline Extraction allows for the transfer of one trait. The potential to transfer additional traits increases as the skill level of Bloodline Extraction rises.
Guiding Pathways: Monsters and humans typically have fixed stats upon leveling up that cannot be altered. However, monsters bonded through the use of Blood Pact will have their stats fully controllable by you, allowing you to allocate them as you see fit.]
[Monster taming has been modified to ’Blood pact’(Lvl 0): When forming a bond with a creature, you can share one ability from your system abilities with that creature. Creatures tamed before the introduction of Blood Pact can also benefit from this skill by initiating Blood Pact with them. The ability shared with a creature is exclusive and cannot be used by another creature. If the bonded creature dies, the ability becomes available for use by another creature. The shared ability retains the same level as your own and can only level up as you progress the original skill.
Soul cage has been modified to ’Meditative Temple’(Lvl 0): Previously known as Soul Cage, this ability now enhances the spiritual growth of your creatures while they are stored within it. The degree of growth depends on the duration the creature is maintained within the Meditative Temple and the amount of spirit you, the host, currently possess.
Taming proficiency has been modified to ’Efficient Tamer’(Lvl 1): Monsters bonded through Blood Pact will gain a 15% increase in all experience they obtain. This percentage will increase as the skill level of Efficient Tamer rises, independent of the host’s level.
Unity through pain has been modified to ’Bone Tempering’(Lvl 0): Monsters bonded through Blood Pact will receive a boost to their constitution stats based on the host’s own constitution. This boost enhances their physical resilience by increasing their constitution by 25% of the host’s constitution.
Monster tongue has been modified to ’Imparted Linguist’: While the basic ability to communicate with other creatures remains, the Blood Pact now grants you the ability to understand the native language of any bonded creature perfectly, enabling seamless communication with them and their species.]
[Your death penalty has been removed due to the changes occurred from your transformation. All stats have experienced an increase; Strength, Agility, Constitution, and stamina has been increased by 50% of your current stats. Magic has increased by 150%, and spirit by 100% of your current stats.]
[You have achieved the first limits of 50 stats in agility, perk based on class Monster Evolutionist obtained; ’Tendon tempering’]
[Tendon tempering(Lvl 0)-Monsters bonded to you through Blood Pact will receive a 25% increase in their Agility stats, derived from your own attributes.
[You have achieved the first limits of 50 stats in stamina, perk based on class Monster Evolutionist obtained; Organ Tempering]
[Organ Tempering-Monsters bonded to you through Blood Pact will receive a 25% increase in their stamina stats, derived from your own attributes.]
[Bone tempering(Lvl 1) Level Up!-Monsters bonded to you through Blood Pact will receive a 30% increase in their constitution stats, derived from your own attributes.
[Imparted Linguist(Lvl 1) Level Up!-From basic understanding to intermediate understanding. Your ability to understand other creatures has improved. There’s no longer a language barrier between the same species of monsters that you are bonded with, while the communication with others could be considered basic.]
[Efficient Tamer(Lvl 2) Level Up!-Monsters bonded through Blood Pact will have a 25% increase in the amount of all experience they obtain.]
".....This is everything that I’d hoped it to be...I wish I could go against that fucker again. The benefits of awakening are huge!"
Despite the overwhelming influx of information, Noah swiftly absorbed and memorized the details, thanks to the enhanced clarity and processing ability of his brain; a result of his increased spirit, which he had yet to fully realize.
His excitement surged as he anticipated discovering his new skills and couldn’t wait to see his updated stats. The thrill of his newfound power was intoxicating, and he was eager to explore the full extent of his transformation.

Noah’s emotions fluctuated wildly as he reviewed his stats, moving from disappointment to shock and then disbelief. His disappointment stemmed from the realization of how his points had been adjusted. Had he known that his stats would essentially multiply after advancing, he would have used his unassigned points sooner. Attempting to play it smart for once had backfired, leaving him with a deep sense of regret. However, what was done was done.
Determined to learn from his mistakes, he resolved to fully allocate his creatures’ points before any future evolutions. Still feeling bitter, he grudgingly assigned all his remaining points to strength, boosting it to forty-one.
Next, he turned his attention to the other significant changes in his stats. The enormous increase in mana left him shocked, while the dramatic rise in his spirit filled him with disbelief.
’I knew my spirit perk went to level two, but just seeing the numbers is out of this world! What does having this much spirit mean?’
Noah’s curiosity meter was building up to the point that he was beginning to feel jittery with anticipation.
——
Unfortunately, the happiness Noah was experiencing during this time couldn’t be shared by the others below.
"Ants? It’s more ants? Where are they coming from?"
"Shit, why isn’t that fucking wolf doing anything! Lead the the fuckers to the wolf!"
"Are you crazy? And have that beast start attacking us too!" We need to run away!"
"Why are you running when this is our chance to get stronger! You morons are nothing without your guns."
"Mark, now’s not the time, this isn’t something we can handle right now, everyone is already exhausted! And the one in the back doesn’t look like something that’ll go down easily." Jas routinely reminded her brother to keep a cool head, contrary to the nervousness of her voice.
Noah’s excitement was abruptly interrupted by the stressed voices emanating from outside. Peering out, he observed a small swarm of ants encircling the students below. It seemed that the students had somehow activated a beacon that attracted the ants’ attention exclusively to them. Fenrir watched with keen interest, emitting excited growls as he observed the unfolding scene.
Eager to join the action, Fenrir awaited Noah’s orders, knowing that his master’s guidance was essential before he could intervene.
As the group below remained unaware, the mutated ants had gained a degree of sentience, fueling their vengeful intentions. Equipped with their antennas, they could discern between the students who had slain their brethren and those who hadn’t. Furthermore, the queen harbored deep resentment for the decimation of her nest, with over 90% of her kin wiped out by unknown forces and the remainder slaughtered by humans.
Driven by vengeance, the queen conspired with another small colony to retaliate against the humans and claim their ’food’. The combined force of the ants numbered close to 150, with the second colony dispatching only their worker and soldier ants to retrieve the sustenance promised by the queen. Unlike their vengeful counterpart, they were not willing to risk the destruction of their entire hive for revenge.
The Queen’s immense size rivaled that of Fenrir when he was on all fours, if not slightly larger. Her colossal stature, dominated by her massive backside and formidable pincers, made her a formidable presence on the battlefield. However, her sheer size likely hindered her ability to quickly maneuver or dig her way out of the ground, explaining her absence from the initial skirmish.
Unlike her smaller counterparts, the Queen remained stationary, observing the chaos transpire before her as her minions launched their attack. Despite the looming threat posed by the Queen’s imposing figure, her passive stance provided a small glimmer of hope.
The soldiers from before came to a stark realization of their own uselessness. With their ammunition depleted and their weapons rendered ineffective, they were left with no choice but to retreat, seeking refuge in one of the nearby dormitories rather than relying on the students for protection.
As the non-combatants observed their departure and attempted to follow suit, the burden of defense fell squarely on the shoulders of the remaining 40 or so students, who now found themselves facing the daunting task of combating the large army of ants alone.
With fewer targets for the ants to focus on and the lingering exhaustion from the previous fight, the students faced a challenging start. However, their newly acquired skills and enhanced stats helped compensate for their shortcomings.
"Ahhhh!"
The sudden appearance of the runaways followed by a horde of zombies elicited screams of alarm from the students, who found themselves caught off guard despite their preparations. The growing number of runners and sprinter zombies underscored the gravity of the situation, signaling that the majority of the zombies were of these faster and more perilous varieties.
Noah watched it all with a conflicted expression. His gaze shifted between the turmoil outside and Arachne at his side. He turned to her, seeking her opinion on the matter.
"What do you think, should we help?" He waited patiently for her response. He was conflicted because Ailetta was in the group of students, but for the rest...why should he care?
Arachne looked towards Noah and then back to the chaos happening outside before looking towards him and pointing.
"My food!" She said, and surprisingly Noah could ’hear’ what she said instead of getting a sense for what she meant. Her words were simple, and that suited Noah more.
A smile spread across Noah’s face as he withdrew his sword from his ring, his predatory instincts kicking in. He looked towards the struggling students, his smile widening as he observed the scene. Unintentionally, his predatory gaze sent shivers down the spines of both the students and the ants, causing them to briefly pause and turn in his direction. Thanks to his heightened spirit, his gaze easily influenced those around him, especially ever reaching its third limiter.
The pause was only brief before they engaged once again. However the toll Noah’s gaze placed on them was too effective on two unlikely students. Their reactions failed to fully recover, suffering from the consequences with their life.
Noah positioned himself at the window, one foot poised to jump into the fray while his free hand gripped the wall for support. However, he halted when he noticed Fenrir’s tail wagging furiously, kicking up dust in his excitement.
"Fenrir!" Noah called out, quickly gaining the wolf’s attention.
"Go play, but leave some for us!" he exclaimed with a grin.
