Chapter 73: Chapter 73: Reward

"Yeah, shopping and gossiping," Tina muttered, puffing her cheeks. "I guess I’ll just stick to being the cute one in the group."

Marissa Jones chuckled. "There’s nothing wrong with that, Tina. But you might be surprised what you can achieve if you put your mind to it."

"You sound like Luke," Tina teased, sticking out her tongue. "Alright, alright, enough about me. Did you see how close Nate is to winning everything? Someone needs to stop him!"

Marissa’s gaze settled on Nate, who stood confidently in the arena. "Luke," she began, addressing Luke through their connection, "do you think I should challenge him?"

"You could," Luke’s voice replied smoothly, tinged with amusement. "It’s not like you’ll lose anything by trying. Even if you don’t win, it’s a learning experience."

Marissa’s eyes narrowed. "Who says I’d lose? My Dark Mandala Flower is strong enough to handle his flames and thunder. The only real challenge is that wolf beast of his..."

Her voice trailed off thoughtfully.

"I see where this is going," Luke said, his tone mockingly resigned. "You want me to deal with the wolf beast, right? Sorry, Marissa, but that’s beneath my dignity. I’ve got a reputation to uphold."

"A reputation?" Marissa raised an eyebrow.

"Of course," Luke replied. "If word gets out that I stepped in to handle a slave-level beast, my peers would never let me hear the end of it."

Marissa sighed, rubbing her temples. "Fine, I’ll manage without you."

"You know," Luke said slyly, "I’d be more motivated if there was a reward involved."

Marissa blinked. "A reward? What kind of reward?"

"Oh, I don’t know... maybe some jelly? Add some ice cubes. And a packet of popping candy, just for good measure."

"Popping candy?!" Marissa’s cheeks flushed a deep red. "W-What kind of nonsense are you even talking about?!"

Luke chuckled. "Relax, I’m just messing with you. Or am I?"

Marissa spluttered, her blush spreading to her ears.

"What’s going on with you, Nujiao?" Tina asked, tilting her head in concern. "You look like you’ve caught a fever."

"I’m fine!" Marissa said quickly, her voice an octave higher than usual.

Zoe shot her a curious glance. "You sure? You’re acting a little... off."

"I said I’m fine!" Marissa insisted, though her fiery cheeks told a different story.

Tina and Zoe exchanged knowing looks, but said nothing more.

Adrian Moore’s voice boomed across the Colosseum once more.

"Nate Dawson, one hundred and ninety-nine points."

The tension in the room was palpable. With just one more point, Nate would claim the entire pool of cultivation resources for his department—a devastating blow to the other freshmen.

"Someone needs to stop him!"

"He’s going to take everything!"

Desperation rippled through the crowd as students looked around for someone—anyone—who could stand against Nate.

And then, as if answering their prayers, a lone figure rose from her seat.

Marissa Jones stepped forward, her elegant white dress catching the light.

Gasps erupted from the audience.

"It’s her!"

"The goddess!"

"She’s going to save us!"

Marissa walked with quiet confidence, her every step radiating poise. For the worried freshmen, she was a beacon of hope—a savior who could finally end Nate’s reign.

She entered the cage, her expression calm yet resolute. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

"Nate Dawson," she said, addressing him directly.

Nate blinked in surprise. "Uh, yeah? Do I know you?"

"Not exactly," Marissa replied, a faint smile playing on her lips. "But in terms of seniority, you should probably call me Aunt Marissa."

"What?!" Nate exclaimed, his voice cracking.

"I’m your master’s close friend," she explained, her smile widening.

Nate’s jaw dropped. "You’re kidding me!"

Marissa shrugged. "You can confirm it with her later. For now, let’s focus on the match."

As Marissa began her summoning, the air in the Colosseum grew heavy. A low growl rumbled through the space, growing louder with each passing second.

When the summoning gate opened, a towering commander-level beast emerged, its presence overwhelming.

The crowd fell into stunned silence, the sheer power of the creature taking their breath away.

"A commander-level beast?!"

"And she’s only a mid-level summoner?!"

Even the faculty looked uneasy, exchanging uncertain glances.

Everett Holland swallowed hard. "This... changes everything."

Nate’s confident smirk faltered for the first time.

"Well," Luke’s voice said in Marissa’s mind, "this should be interesting."

Marissa’s lips curled into a confident smile. "Let’s see how he handles this."

"Yeah, shopping and gossiping," Tina muttered, puffing her cheeks. "I guess I’ll just stick to being the cute one in the group."
