Beast World: A Fragile Beauty Blessed with Many Children-Chapter 29 - 28: Are All Young Females This Volatile?
’What are you spacing out for at a time like this?’
Si Shuo quickly pressed her hands against Xu Chi’s back, trying to free her legs from his grasp and make a run for it.
But he was far too strong, and she couldn’t budge him an inch. Frantic, her eyes started to well up.
"Xu Chi, put me down! That Crowned Eagle Beastman is ugly, he has a terrible personality, and he’s a thieving Rogue Beast! I don’t want to be taken by him..."
But Xu Chi remained motionless, allowing the Crowned Eagle Beastman to continue his dive, letting out an excited, piercing shriek.
Si Shuo’s heart hammered in her chest, and her voice trembled. "Y-You’re not in league with him, are you? Or are you trying to surrender, offering me up to prove your loyalty?
I must’ve had my brain addled by that stink-bug grass to ever think you were harmless and trust you so completely..."
’This beastman is the worst! He’s so calculating, lulling me into a false sense of security just to turn the tables on me!’ 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
’Just great. The perfect setup to let a clueless cat like me walk right into his trap.’
"I’m telling you, once I’m with that Crowned Eagle Beastman, the very first thing I’ll do is tie you up and use you for fish bait!"
She bluffed furiously, though tears of terror were already streaming down her face.
Xu Chi sighed. "No. I’m getting revenge for you."
Si Shuo blinked. ’Get revenge for me? By just standing there?’
But then she saw a Tornado materialize from thin air and shoot toward the Crowned Eagle Beastman.
The Crowned Eagle Beastman slammed on the brakes mid-air, but before he could shoot up into the clouds, the Tornado whirred like a blender. With a RIIIP, the air filled with flying eagle feathers and down. A moment later, a large, plucked bird slammed onto the ground with a SPLAT.
With teardrops still clinging to her cheeks, Si Shuo saw this and immediately began slapping Xu Chi’s shoulder, laughing uncontrollably.
"Oh my god, Xu Chi, you’re incredible!
How did you come up with such a wicked idea?"
Xu Chi...
’Are all young females this volatile these days?’
’One moment she’s crying, cursing, and hitting me; the next, she’s shaking with laughter.’
The Crowned Eagle Beastman was overcome with shame and indignation, covering himself with his featherless wings. He hadn’t brought any Beast Skins with him. Without his feathers, he couldn’t fly, and if he reverted to his human form, he would still be naked.
He let out a shriek, surrendered without a fight, and turned to run away.
After he was gone, Si Shuo laughed for another moment before saying sheepishly in a small voice, "Xu Chi, I’m sorry. I-I was so scared just now. I wasn’t thinking straight and accused you unfairly."
Xu Chi grunted in acknowledgment. "Don’t be afraid. I’ll protect you."
Si Shuo tilted her head to look at him. Xu Chi was exquisitely handsome, with an air of otherworldly calm about him.
She couldn’t discern a single trace of joy or anger in his expression.
Xu Chi continued to carry her, leaping through the forest like a martial arts master from a novel who could skim across water. His movements were remarkably graceful and effortless.
"Is your Beast Form very special?
I thought a Beastman’s Combat Power was at its peak in their Beast Form.
Have you never encountered a Wild Beast strong enough to force your Transformation?
Tell me one distinctive feature so I can guess, come on," Si Shuo was dying of curiosity. Her claws itched, and she poked his shoulder.
’They’d been through a crisis together, after all.’
Xu Chi’s expression didn’t flicker. "It is. I haven’t. It has wings."
Si Shuo mentally lined up his answers with her questions. ’Tsk. Could it be that the Wild Beasts here, so far from Dongye Forest, all have low Combat Power?’
’A Level 3 Beastman like Xu Chi doesn’t even need to use his Beast Form?’
Si Shuo let out a "Wow." "Having wings and being able to fly is so cool! It’s a shame you don’t transform, though. It’s like you don’t even have them."
’So what has wings?’
She counted on her fingers. "Xu Chi is handsome, so you can’t be some common bird like a sparrow or a Crowned Eagle. Are you a peacock?"
’Peacocks are beautiful, but they’re terrible flyers. That would be almost like not having wings at all.’
"No. Guess again."
Si Shuo...
’Is he actually playing along? The problem is, his tone is so flat. For him to say that gives me a weird, split-personality vibe.’
"An ostrich? Ostriches are pretty cute, and they run really fast." ’It has wings but can’t fly!’
"Wrong. Guess again."
"Xu Chi, there are too many winged beasts! Give me another hint." Si Shuo felt like this question would keep her up all night if she couldn’t solve it.
"It has horns. I can’t say any more," Xu Chi insisted.
Si Shuo’s eyes widened. "Wings and horns... are you a unicorn?"
’But Xu Chi’s hair is flaxen. Unicorns come in other colors besides white, right?’
’Well, this is the Beast World Continent. Anything’s possible.’
Xu Chi hummed in response. "Close enough."
Si Shuo asked expectantly, "In that case, Xu Chi, when you’re finally able to undergo your Transformation, can you take me for a flight?"
"I can."
"So when will you be able to do your Transformation?"
"Father said I can only use my Transformation when I reach Level 15 Combat Power, or if I have a mate who is in grave danger," Xu Chi replied, answering each of her questions with complete sincerity.
’Level 15?’ Si Shuo glanced at the three lonely red Beast Patterns on the guy’s neck. ’That’ll be when pigs fly.’
She knew that the person with the highest Combat Power was Hua Pu, the eldest son of Wu Chuan, the leader of the Luoni Tribe. He was also Liwa’s full brother and was at Level 8 Combat Power.
’He was the one leading the spring hunt this time. If he had been around, none of the local Rogue Beasts would have dared to be so audacious!’
After they had traveled for a while, the usually chattering young female fell silent. Xu Chi said softly, "It won’t take that long."
Si Shuo nodded and hummed in agreement.
Before long, they emerged from the forest. In the distance, they could see a cluster of houses built around a lake from wood, leaves, dry grass, and mud.
But as she looked at the tribe’s wooden gate, Si Shuo suddenly realized she had a very serious problem.
In public, her persona was that of a blue-eyed, white-furred Mutated Cat—a female Beastman who was naturally deaf and had low fertility.
After that emotional rollercoaster, Xu Chi had seen her use the Catalyst Technique. In a moment of recklessness, Si Shuo hadn’t even tried to maintain her cover!
Si Shuo took a deep breath. ’It’s definitely not because I’m stupid or forgetful. It’s because I have a simple nature, I’m not cut out for this treacherous world, and my brain was addled by that stink-bug grass. That’s the only reason I’d make such a rookie mistake.’
"Um, Xu Chi," Si Shuo began, clearing her throat and lowering her voice to a conspiratorial whisper. "Whatever I say in a minute, just play along, okay? Don’t blow my cover."
"Reason."
’He’ll expose me if I don’t give him a reason?’
Si Shuo sighed. "I’m not from this tribe. I was kidnapped by that Crowned Eagle Beastman.
For both our sakes, we need to appear weak. If we get them to lower their guard, it’ll be easier for us to operate."
"Okay."
’So blunt. He just believed her flimsy, two-sentence explanation? He wasn’t going to press for details? Wasn’t he curious at all?’
"Who goes there?" A tribe guard spotted them from a distance and ran forward to question them.
Seeing a beautiful young female on Xu Chi’s back, their voices softened considerably, their eyes fixed brightly on Si Shuo. "Is the young female injured?"
Before Si Shuo could even speak, one of them turned and yelled, "Where’s the Witch Doctor? We have an injured young female here...!"
However, as they got closer, the lingering smell of stink-bug grass, not yet dispersed by the wind, made them gag.
Si Shuo tensed up. She glanced at the unfazed Xu Chi. ’Could it be that, like me, his sense of smell has been temporarily overwhelmed by the stench?’
’This guy is surprisingly decent...’
