Chapter 112: Chapter 112: Helping Her Apply Medicine

Huang Ya was hit instantly. Gu Jiaojiao brought the club down on his head, and blood immediately started gushing out.

The metallic taste of blood filled his mouth. He spat on the ground. "You dare to hurt me? Brothers, get over here and kill this bitch!"

Seeing his voice was still full of energy, Gu Jiaojiao landed another blow on his knee. Huang Ya collapsed to his knees for good.

Second Brother Gu, who was fighting three men, had been injured after only a moment. But seeing that his sister wasn’t losing, it was as if he’d gotten a shot of adrenaline.

The three men fighting Second Brother Gu heard their leader shout and immediately turned to look, only to see he was injured.

This was unacceptable. With a silent understanding, one of them stayed behind to keep Second Brother Gu occupied while the other two charged at Gu Jiaojiao simultaneously.

Suddenly, a fist slammed into Gu Jiaojiao’s back. She cried out in pain, nearly dropping the wooden club in her hand.

Gritting her teeth against the searing pain in her back, she tightened her grip on the club and swung it in a backhand motion.

The man behind her screamed and dropped to his knees. Meanwhile, the man in front of her had produced what looked like a switchblade, a popular weapon of the era.

As Gu Jiaojiao was swinging, the man shakily stabbed at her arm.

Sharp pain shot through both her arm and her back. She was running purely on willpower, forcing herself not to let go of the club.

The man who had been fighting Second Brother Gu and the knife-wielder charged at Gu Jiaojiao again, one from the front and one from the back.

One of them yelled, "Old Three, be careful! This bitch has some moves. We have to take her down today. We’ll mess her up good and get revenge for the boss."

In the chaos, she couldn’t aim for specific pressure points. All she could do was swing the club wildly, each blow landing solidly.

There were four men in total. Gu Jiaojiao had already knocked one down and seriously injured another, leaving only these two.

They never would have dreamed that this beautiful woman, who looked so delicate and weak, was actually this tough.

They no longer dared to underestimate her. They hesitated, not daring to advance, and glared at Gu Jiaojiao with vicious eyes.

It was as if they were trying to kill her with their stares. Seeing her chance, Gu Jiaojiao swung her club and knocked the switchblade from Old Three’s hand.

She then kicked the switchblade over to Second Brother Gu. Wincing in pain, he scrambled forward to pick it up and shouted defiantly, "Come on, you bastards!"

Seeing that the tables had turned, the two men—one supporting the other—immediately fled. Gu Jiaojiao had no intention of giving chase.

Her body was still somewhat weak. Taking a punch in the back from a burly man and getting her arm slashed had her in so much pain it made her question her existence.

It looked like Second Brother Gu was hurt, too; otherwise, he definitely would have chased after them.

Gu Jiaojiao glanced at the crowd of onlookers at the mouth of the alley. They had actually parted to let the thugs escape.

These sleazy youths were obviously local thugs who preyed on young women, yet the crowd didn’t even try to stop them!

It left Gu Jiaojiao feeling somewhat disheartened. She’d always known people could be apathetic, but she never expected it to be this bad.

Gu Jiaojiao took a bottle of disinfectant from her bag and began cleaning the blood from her arm with a cotton swab.

"Jiaojiao, does it hurt? It’s all my fault. Your second brother is useless; I couldn’t even protect you," Second Brother Gu said, filled with self-reproach.

"Second Brother, how could this be your fault? You should rest for a bit. Let’s head back," Gu Jiaojiao said, grimacing in pain.

Second Brother Gu wasn’t bleeding, but his body was surely covered in bruises from the thugs’ blows.

The thugs hadn’t gotten far before they were knocked to the ground by someone who let out a lion-like roar.

Gu Jiaojiao looked up. Wasn’t that her man? Su Shuochi had appeared out of nowhere.

His eyes were bloodshot, and every punch landed with brutal, meaty thuds. The sounds alone were enough to make one’s heart tremble.

Two teeth flew out of one of the men’s mouths, followed by agonizing screams.

And just like that, the remaining two thugs were also brutally beaten by Su Shuochi.

He then coldly pointed at a man on a bicycle who had been watching the spectacle and commanded, "You. Go call the police."

The man nodded involuntarily. "O-Okay... I’ll... I’ll go right now."

After giving the order, Su Shuochi wheeled himself toward Gu Jiaojiao. "Jiaojiao, what are you doing here? You scared me half to death just now!"

"What else? I came looking for you," she replied. "You didn’t come home for dinner, so I got worried and came to find you."

Seeing his bloodshot eyes, her tone softened considerably.

"I went to see Sheng Shiwu. I was just about to head back and take you to class. I’m sorry, sweetheart..."

Su Shuochi had eaten dinner at the cafeteria in Sheng Shiwu’s school. After saying goodbye to his classmates, he started for home.

If he headed home then, he could still catch his wife. But as he was making his way down the main road, he noticed a large crowd gathered around a corner, watching something.

The people were all chattering. "That girl looks so delicate, but she’s surprisingly a good fighter."

"See? I knew it. A girl that pretty who still has the guts to go down that alley... turns out she’s just really capable."

"I’ve seen her before. She’s come by a few times pushing a wheelchair. She was probably trying to buy something."

Su Shuochi, who had been about to leave, immediately spun his wheelchair around upon hearing this and charged into the alley.

From a distance, he saw his wife’s arm bleeding. His heart shattered with rage. He recklessly blocked the thugs’ path and gave them a savage beating.

"Second Brother, are your injuries serious?" Su Shuochi asked with concern.

"It’s nothing, just a few punches," Second Brother Gu said, pleasantly surprised. ’This brother-in-law actually remembers to care about me.’

"If it’s nothing serious, then go watch those thugs. Wait for the police to get here and give a statement with them. I’m taking Jiaojiao to school first."

Second Brother Gu: ...

’I got happy too soon. I’m still too naive!’

But he was still very concerned about Gu Jiaojiao. "Okay. Jiaojiao, shouldn’t you take a half-day off from school?"

"There’s no need. When you get back, don’t tell Grandpa and the others. I don’t want to worry them."

"I know. These guys are clearly repeat offenders with records. If they go to jail for this, they probably won’t be getting out for a long time."

Second Brother Gu comforted his sister. He’d given police statements plenty of times, so he wasn’t afraid at all.

"Men like that should’ve been dead long ago," Gu Jiaojiao said through gritted teeth.

As Su Shuochi passed the thugs, he shot them a vicious glare, his eyes like those of a wolf about to tear into its prey.

Lying on the ground, the thugs never would have dreamed that the woman they hadn’t even managed to lay a finger on would be the reason they’d spend the rest of their lives in a cell.

Su Shuochi held Gu Jiaojiao’s hand and led her to a deserted spot. "Jiaojiao, let’s go into the space. I need to see your injuries."

"Mm, my back could probably use some ointment," Gu Jiaojiao agreed. She wasn’t one to be overly dramatic.

Once inside the space, Gu Jiaojiao found her best liniment for bruises. She took off her top. "Su Shuochi, help me rub some on."

There on her snow-white back was a fist-sized bruise. It marred her skin like a flaw on a piece of fine, exquisitely beautiful, yet fragile porcelain.

The sight made Su Shuochi’s heart ache. His gaze was fixed intently on the wound as he gently applied the medicine with a cotton swab in a circular motion.

Once the medicine was evenly applied, he began to massage the area with his large hands to break up the bruised blood. The pain was so intense that Gu Jiaojiao wanted to scream.

Su Shuochi saw her biting her lower lip, unable to stop the tears that welled in the corners of her eyes and fell, dripping onto his left hand.

They were scalding hot, as if they would burn a permanent mark right into his skin.
