Chapter 113: Chapter 113: Second Brother Gu Is Locked Up

Gu Jiaojiao’s scalding tears were like needles stabbing into Su Shuochi’s heart, one by one.

His hatred for those thugs intensified, and he wished he could go back and strangle them to death.

Even knocking out a few of their front teeth couldn’t quell the hatred in his heart. How dare they lust after his wife.

Though filled with rage, he saw his wife was in so much pain that tears were streaming down her face, yet she refused to make a sound.

Su Shuochi’s heart ached for her. "Honey," he said, "if it hurts, just cry. Don’t bite your lip so hard."

Gu Jiaojiao sniffled. "I’m not hurt. Hmph. How dare they come after me. If I weren’t so weak, I’d have knocked their teeth out myself."

A lot of the anger in Su Shuochi’s heart instantly vanished. "You made that lead thug’s head bleed. Honey, you’re not weak at all."

It was as if he was under a spell only Gu Jiaojiao could cast; she was the only one who could soothe the rage roaring inside him.

"But didn’t you take down the other two? Just wait until I get stronger. Taking on four at once will be a piece of cake."

Seeing that his wife had stopped crying, Su Shuochi rubbed the bruise a little harder to disperse the clotted blood.

"Honey, let me put some more antiseptic on your arm."

"I already wrapped it in gauze. It’s nothing, the skin just got broken a little."

A switchblade isn’t as sharp as a dagger, and the thug was so scared that he only managed to break the skin.

But the cut was a bit long, and she didn’t have a big enough bandage, so Gu Jiaojiao had to wrap it with gauze.

It looked serious, and Su Shuochi, feeling uneasy, insisted on unwrapping it to take a look.

Seeing that the wound really wasn’t deep, he carefully applied some antiseptic with a cotton swab. "Honey, go to your medical space and change your clothes."

"Your clothes have blood on them, and that gauze on your arm looks frightening. Change into a long-sleeved shirt, and I’ll take you to your classes."

"Okay, you can just drop me off at the compound gate. You should hurry and check on my second brother."

"Those thugs dared to stop us in broad daylight, so they must have powerful connections. I’m worried Second Brother will get the short end of the stick."

"Alright. We’ll go look at houses tomorrow at noon. I found two courtyards I liked today..."

While Gu Jiaojiao changed her clothes, Su Shuochi told her everything he had done that morning.

"Well, look at you! I didn’t realize you were so capable. Forming a construction team is definitely a good idea."

Gu Jiaojiao then told her husband that in the eighties, many tycoons who hadn’t gone to college made their fortunes in construction.

Some who didn’t get into college started as sole proprietors and eventually registered companies and became chairmen.

They even ended up hiring the very same elementary and middle school classmates who had gotten into college.

When Su Shuochi saw the admiration in his wife’s eyes, his heart felt as sweet as honey. He hugged her and kissed her, unwilling to let go.

Meanwhile, Second Brother Gu didn’t have to wait long before a few police officers came and hauled the four thugs away.

Second Brother Gu, the person who had called for help, and two other citizens went to give their statements. He thought he would be free to go afterward.

But to his surprise, he was arrested for intentional assault and was about to be locked in a holding cell to "reflect on his actions." This made Second Brother Gu shout in anger.

"Officer! This was self-defense! Those four had ill intentions and were trying to assault a young woman!"

"What young woman? Why didn’t you mention that before? Why didn’t she come to give a statement as well? Are you trying to hide something?"

Second Brother Gu was speechless.

He understood now. Those thugs had powerful connections, and there was no way he was going to drag his sister into this.

’Fine, lock me up,’ he thought. ’Su Shuochi will definitely find a way to get me out.’

’Damn it,’ he fumed internally. ’Now I can’t sell my savory crepes this afternoon. That’s dozens of yuan I’m losing out on. What a waste!’

"Why aren’t you talking? Do you have accomplices? So young, yet you’ve already gone down the wrong path. How could you be so vicious as to cripple someone?"

The young officer slammed his hand on the table and roared, his questions full of self-righteous fury. A crime of intentional assault like this could not be treated lightly.

Especially since the man he’d beaten was Director Dong’s own brother-in-law. The young officer had already read the statements from the four thugs.

He’d also read the statements from the so-called "witnesses." They were all consistent, claiming Gu Jingtai had started the fight and assaulted the men without provocation.

Second Brother Gu looked at the man sitting before him, dressed in a baggy uniform and a wide-brimmed service cap.

He had an average face, but his eyes were clear and righteous, and he wore an expression of someone who despised evil.

Second Brother Gu figured this young officer must have been duped by those thugs. "Officer, those four men really are—"

"Shut your mouth! The three people who came with you all said you started it. Do you have any idea who you hit?"

"Aren’t they just a bunch of thugs? Who else could they be?" Second Brother Gu was desperate to know whose relative he was dealing with. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

"The one whose head you split open is Director Dong’s brother-in-law! You’ve got some nerve."

"Who’s Director Dong?" Second Brother Gu asked, his eyes widening. His maternal grandfather and uncles all had the surname Dong.

"Why are you asking so many questions? Trying to pull some strings?" the young officer retorted scornfully.

"Dong Jianjun is his eldest uncle, and Dong Jianping is his second uncle. I refuse to believe no one ever reports those thugs.

In broad daylight, they dared to assault my wife—Dong Jianping’s own niece."

Every word from Su Shuochi was like a shard of ice striking the young officer’s heart.

Beneath the wide-brimmed cap, the officer’s righteous eyes went as wide as saucers, his mouth hanging open wide enough to fit an egg.

’What in the world is going on?!’

’Who am I? Where am I?!’

"This is my work ID," Su Shuochi said. "Call your Director Dong immediately and ask him how he plans to handle his brother-in-law."

"Right, I’ll call our captain immediately."

As soon as the call connected, the young officer stammered, "Cap... Captain... you need to get over here right away. Gu Jingtai is Director Dong’s nephew!"

The captain arrived quickly. "Shuo Ci? You’re actually willing to leave the house?"

The newcomer was a comrade-in-arms of Su Shuochi and Dong Qihua. Though they hadn’t seen each other in a long time, the imposing captain chattered away at him.

"Su... Brother-in-law, can I head back first?" Second Brother Gu asked, anxious to get back to selling his savory crepes.

"Shuo Ci, what did he just call you?" the handsome captain asked in disbelief.

"This is my wife’s second-oldest brother. Let him go first. I’ll stay here and wait for Director Dong."

"Alright. Xiao Li, escort my brother-in-law out," the handsome captain ordered the young officer.

"Mr. Gu, this way please," the young officer in the wide-brimmed cap said politely.

"Remember to come home early, Brother-in-law," Second Brother Gu said as he was leaving. "And make sure those thugs are punished severely!"

Second Brother Gu said this calmly and then left. He’d been introduced to the family circle by Uncle Dong before, so he understood how things worked.

Even as he walked out of the imposing front gate, Second Brother Gu didn’t forget to add fuel to the fire for Huang Ya.

"That one, Huang Ya, the one whose head I split open—he’s rotten to the core. You’d better make sure you punish him properly."

"Our captain will take care of everything. Please rest assured, Mr. Gu."

So, that damn Huang Ya’s brother-in-law was his very own second uncle. Gu Jingtai turned his head and covered his mouth, letting out a few fake coughs to hide his grin.

’True happiness really is built on the suffering of others,’ he thought. His mood was now absolutely wonderful.

’If Huang Ya ended up "eating a peanut," he’d be having sweet dreams for days.’
