Baby System: I'm the Beast World's Only Hope!-Chapter 25: Episode : Baby Drax is so Cute!
She calmed the crying baby, by shoving her nipples in his mouth, and he instantly silenced.
Who knew that babies’ cries could be this loud?
[TheMotheroftheWorld looks at you and scoffs saying welcome to Motherhood.]
Roxy rolled her eyes. I need to take a shower, my body feels sticky and the pain has receded thanks to the system’s utmost care.
"Z, go check on the things there..." she pointed so she could sit on her own.
Zarek looked at her, confused, but the calmness in her voice settled him. He walked over to the largest crate and ripped the top off with ease.
Inside was the mattress.
"What is this... white stuff? Sheep?" Zarek asked, poking the sealed plastic.
"That," Roxy said, a dreamy look in her eyes, "is our new bed. Move the furs, Zarek. The Queen needs foam."
She carefully stood up with the child, a wave of dizziness hitting her for a brief second before she held herself.
[TheMotheroftheWorld warns you that shouldn’t be hasty, and you should take things step by step]
It took ten minutes of Zarek looking baffled as the mattress expanded but finally, it was set up on the stone dais.
"It’s magic." Zarek breathed in awe.
Roxy laughed out, not being able to control it again. "Yes, magic!"
Zarek lifted Roxy effortlessly, she felt weightless in his arms, and placed her on the bed.
She sank into the foam. It contoured to her aching hips. It supported her spine. The sheets were cool against her hot skin.
"Oh, my god," Roxy moaned, her eyes rolling back. "Yes. This is it. I live here now."
Zarek looked at the bed suspiciously.
"Get in," Roxy commanded, patting the spot beside her.
Zarek climbed in cautiously. His massive weight sank into the foam, and his eyes went wide.
For a warrior who had slept on stone for centuries, the relief on his joints was instantaneous.
"Oh," Zarek rumbled.
"Yeah. ’Oh’," Roxy smirked sleepily.
Zarek placed Drax between them. The baby Dragon immediately snuggled into the silk, letting out a contented purr.
After Drax fell asleep, Roxy stood up to go wash up, she felt stronger now.
"I will go with you." Zarek offered but immediately Roxy glared at him.
She pointed outside the cave. "I was just going to the cave, Z. The cave. No one is taking me."
"But—"
"But nothing you big lizard. I just want to fucking soak in the lake, I smell like blood." She gestured at herself. "I am dirty."
Zarek pressed his lips into a thin line but didn’t follow her when she left the cave.
She was not offended by his protectiveness, her heart just felt full and warm. Because back on earth, people only wished death upon her and nobody extended their hands to take care of her.
[TheSassyGoddess looks at you with sympathy]
I am not someone you should pity, goddess. Everyone has their own survival path, and I was just surviving just like all the rest of the humans.
My path is just a bit rocky.
Soon she reached the lake, she shed off the dirty cloth on her body and stepped into the cool water.
The lake was cold, but after all she had been through birthing the child, it was heaven.
A quiet moan escaped her lips.
Roxy floated on her back, staring up at the blue sky as if she was seeing her life before all this chaos.
She wouldn’t say she hated it here.
Back on earth she had a job where she was treated like shit, and to de-stress she had just no choice but to sleep.
Would her doctor look for her?
The water washed away the sweat, the blood off her. And for the first time in hours, she was just Roxy.
No weight of a child growing in her belly, just the same old Roxy.
"Okay," she whispered to the echoing silence. "Step one: Don’t die. Check. Step two: Produce heir. Check. Step three: Don’t get eaten by said heir. Check."
Just like always, she checked things off her list.
She sank a little lower, letting the water cover her ears, muffling the world.
Now what?
She had built a life here. She had a farm. She had a Clan that worshipped her. She had a husband who would do anything for her.
It was... nice. It was safe.
But she knew her wishes were not respected in this world where only the beast dominated.
As much as I hate the idea that I have been turned into a breeding device, I also love the idea of having men who would treat me like their most precious treasure.
"I can’t stay here forever," she murmured, surfacing. She paddled to the shallow edge. "The System said ’Save the World’. Not ’Save the Dragons and retire’."
The Wolves were out there. The Tigers. The Phoenixes. All dying. All desperate.
She was interested in how to help them before she returned to earth.
But do I really want to return to earth?
She needed a plan. She needed to leave, but she couldn’t just walk out. Zarek would burn the continent down looking for her. She needed to think about what to do.
Just as the thought formed, the system popped up.
[MANDATORY SYSTEM TASK TRIGGERED]
[Main Mission Phase 2: The Expansion.]
[Objective: Secure the Wolf Bloodline.]
[Condition: You cannot save the world from one cave.]
And who says I can’t, we haven’t even tried ? And besides I didn’t choose to save the world before !
You basically dragged me here!
[Time Remaining: 13 Days, 23 Hours, 59 Minutes.]
Of course it would ignore me, what a load of crap!
[TASK: After Two Weeks, Leave the Dragon Clan.]
[Penalty for Failure: The Wolf Pack invades. Total War. 80% Projected Casualty Rate for Dragon Clan.]
Roxy stared at the screen, water dripping from her nose.
"Two weeks," she whispered. "You want me to leave my newborn son and my husband in two weeks? Are you insane?"
Well, not basically husband, just mate.
[TheStoryWeaver shrugs. Conflict drives the plot, darling.]
"Screw the plot!" Roxy raged. "I just got comfortable!"
But the countdown didn’t stop. 13 Days...
She had two weeks. Two weeks to say goodbye. Two weeks to betray the man who loved her. Two weeks to accommodate herself with another beast.
"I hate you," she told the System. "I really, really hate you."
[The feeling is mutual]
Roxy bit down on her lower lip and clenched her fist.
She climbed out of the lake, wrapping herself in her new robe. She walked back toward the cave, her steps heavy. She had a deadline.
Once she returned to the cave, she found Zarek sleeping with Drax in his arms.
She had never seen him sleep off before, seeing him like that with the little baby, her heart warmed over. She didn’t want to break the silence.
Roxy reached for the [Beast-Mom Recovery Meal] box the System had placed by the wall. She opened a container. It smelled like rich beef stew and freshly baked bread.
Roxy gasped.
Damn! It smelled delicious!
She spooned the rich stew into her mouth, and the flavor of the tomato burst inside her mouth, earning a groan of satisfaction.
This was fucking good stuff.
She continued to eat until the food was finished and stored them back, gladly the box had a cooling effect that worked like a refrigerator.
This could last Zarek and Drax when she was Gone. But she made a declaration in her heart.
She was going to come back for them.
After the food, Roxy bathed Drax who was calm all through the process and used the Swaddle to wrap Drax.
The diapers she got fit snuggly on him. And dressed him in the onesies. She made a vow in her heart that she was going to sew more clothes for him.
"Aren’t you a beautiful little lizard~" she cooed and baby Drax giggled.
His gold eyes shining, he hiccuped and continued laughing as she continued to make baby faces at him.
"What am I going to do baby Drax?" She whispered, her voice strangled.
Baby Drax placed his wide small palm on her cheek, clutching it so tight she winced. Baby Drax pulled her in and he licked her face.
Roxy’s heart swelled with warmth and love.
"Oh my baby Drax! Did you just kiss me?" She chuckled, painting kisses around his face. Causing baby Drax to giggle happily.
Roxy smiled. It won’t be bad to have more babies like baby Drax.
