Babies' Secret: My Ex Wants Me Back!-Chapter 80: She looks beautiful
Chapter 80: She looks beautiful
Chapter 80 - She looks beautiful
Don’t ask what Amanda was doing here and don’t ask her how she knew about the meet-up between Katherine and Aaron today. She just knew—call it intuition or stalking. Well, maybe both
Amanda stood outside, arms crossed against her chest with the corner of her eyes squinted at the building, glancing at the window. Katherine’s apartment—and her lips curled up in a nasty smirk.
It’s today she would end everything.
If she couldn’t have what she wanted, then Katherine wouldn’t have it either. Whether willingly or not, both of them wouldn’t be happy or have the man. They would both be miserable.
She tapped her index finger on her elbow, which was crossed on her chest while waiting for Katherine to show herself.
Why isn’t she here yet? She was getting anxious and agitated from waiting.
As if Katherine heard her agitation, Katherine walked out of the building, and Amanda straightened, dropping her hands to her sides as her lips drew into a thin line. Blinking her eyes to get into the act, but she couldn’t help feeling her heart thunder in anger and envy.
How dare her?! She bit her lower lip to stop from lashing out immediately.
Katherine was beautiful in the red dress—Amanda always knew Katherine was pretty in her hostess dress at the hotel, yet in this elegant date dress, she was fucking beautiful, and Amanda felt jealousy bob in her throat.
It burnt so hot like acid and bitter like infection herbal drink.
Katherine looked so peaceful, serene, and happy that Amanda wanted to peel those expressions off her face. She wanted her to feel a pinch of the anguish, wretchedness, and misfortune she was feeling, but she swallowed her sour self-pity down with so much difficulty as she willed herself to calm down.
To get her shit together, while clutching her side, not to sabotage her perfect, final plan that would break everything—and she was ready for the mess.
.
Katherine stepped out of her apartment building with a thudding heart, excitedly—she couldn’t wait to meet Aaron. She brought out her phone from her purse to text Aaron that she was just about to leave home when she saw Amanda waiting in front of the building.
Katherine’s step faltered a little. She was shocked to see Amanda here. What was she doing here, and how the fuck did she know where she lived?
Katherine’s brow immediately furrowed, drawing together in question and defensiveness because she didn’t know Amanda’s ulterior motive for visiting. She plastered her professional, usual smile on her face.
"Amanda?" Katherine called slowly—her voice not giving out her skepticism, pausing on her step when she got closer. "What are you doing here?" she asked. Sincerely, Katherine had totally forgotten about Amanda in Aaron’s life. She and Aaron never really talked about her or touched Amanda’s situation.
And yet you’re happy going on a date with her husband? That snarky comment in her head.
Katherine stared at Amanda, who dressed immaculately as usual, yet her face was hollow. It lacked the usual pompous, elegant color. Amanda was the hot type of beauty—S-grade model—but her face card was declined, and Katherine couldn’t name the change in Amanda’s look.
Amanda looked haggard and older than the last month she saw her.
Katherine stared down at her, then stopped at Amanda’s hand, which was gripping a white envelope. Katherine raised her brow, waiting for Amanda to get to the point. If she came to talk or came to pick a fight—either of the two, which she didn’t want. She didn’t have time for Amanda’s scheme.
Amanda wetted her lips, took a step forward but stopped when Katherine shot her a narrow-eyed look. She stopped in her tracks. "Can we talk, please?" she said softly, and Katherine was shocked that Amanda’s voice could be soft and defenseless—it was so different from how she sounded normally. Amanda licked her lips again, rubbing her hands on her clothes. "Privately," she enunciated in a low voice.
Katherine looked at Amanda getting agitated and shook her head. "I’ve somewhere to be now," Katherine responded, quickly glancing at her phone screen—the time was ticking.
"Just some minutes," Amanda smiled softly, her shoulders hunched in defeat and sighed. "I won’t take much time," she said. "I promise."
Katherine looked at Amanda once again and shook her head in surrender before she pulled Amanda to the corner to hear what she wanted to say. Katherine quickly dropped Amanda’s wrist and wiped her hands. "What is it?" she asked immediately, not wasting more time than necessary.
Katherine tapped her feet on the floor, waiting for Amanda to get to the point. She didn’t have all the time in the world when she knew Aaron was waiting for her.
Amanda exhaled shakily, her eyes darting to her feet before she sighed like she was bracing herself for the inevitable. She opened the envelope and handed over a black-and-white printout to Katherine.
Katherine frowned, looking at Amanda’s stretched hand. She could feel dread pit in her stomach. She didn’t know why she was feeling that foreboding like she shouldn’t collect it. She could literally hear her heart racing in her ears.
Katherine gulped, yanking the printout from Amanda as her eyes squinted. She turned the printout and her standing faltered a little. She moved a step back as a moment passed to register what was in the picture—the familiar shape she knew—a small bean-like creature. Katherine knew it too well.
Katherine felt her hands tremble, holding the scan. Her throat was parched and the air was constrained, like there was no oxygen to breathe around her. Katherine blinked to see if it wasn’t her eyes playing tricks on her, as the lump in her throat got bigger and heavier.
"Is this...?" Her heart thudded un-rhythmically. It couldn’t be real.
Why wouldn’t it be real? Are they not married? That snarky comment again, and Katherine’s breath came in short pants.
Amanda choked on tears. Her eyes glistened with unshed tears. "I’m pregnant," Amanda said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Katherine gulped the lump, and it rolled down her esophagus then dropped with a thud into her stomach, heavily.
"It’s Aaron’s child."
Katherine’s body went still, her ears ringing like a cathedral bell during an emergency—even though the silence between them was suffocating.
No. Katherine shook her head in denial. That can’t be true, she mumbled under her breath. Her head was pounding vehemently.
Amanda’s gaze fell to her feet, her fingers fiddling. "It was just once, after a dinner—we’d both had wine. It was a mistake, but... it happened and..." Amanda trailed off, her body curling like she wanted to hide herself.
Aaron can’t do that? Katherine thought in denial.
Why can’t he? Amanda is his wife. And Katherine swallowed hard from the response her rational head gave. She had been blinded—and she did it again and again.
Why did she think Aaron would be hers now after years of being separated? Why did she allow herself to feel? Why did she? Now, she—
The revelation made her world tilt, like everything she’d built in the past weeks had been a mere fantasy. Her breathing came ragged, and she still gripped the picture in disbelief and denial. Yet Amanda continued.
"I thought you deserved to know," Amanda added softly. "I’m sorry," she said.
Katherine handed back the image, her hands trembling slightly as she looked up to the already cloudy sky—like her jumbled mind right now. She blinked, pushing back the hot tears that wanted to spill from her tear ducts.
She grabbed Amanda’s both hands gently while smiling softly, masking the heartbreak tearing through her head and heart. "Congratulations," she said in a clear voice which was different from the volcano she was feeling, one that wanted to erupt.
"I’m really happy for you." Katherine patted the back of Amanda’s hand, dropped it, then turned and strode away. Walking with her head raised, her shoulders squared—yet betraying the turmoil boiling inside her, the numbness in her body, and the wobbliness of her legs.
It was very heavy.
.
Amanda watched Katherine walk away with a calm expression, yet Amanda didn’t feel an ounce of satisfaction. She thought Katherine would cry—or better still scream—yet the bitch took the lie perfectly.
She wasn’t happy with the mono-reaction, and Amanda could feel anger gnawing in her stomach. She bit her lower lip.
Amanda wanted Katherine emotionally wrecked, physically crazy, and mentally broken like her. She should be pathetic like her. She wanted to see Katherine’s eyes tear up like hers—cry, feel betrayed. Yet that bitch didn’t. Amanda wanted Katherine in misery—because misery wanted company—yet Katherine didn’t feel any of it and smiled.
That annoying smile of hers.
The bitch fucking smiled at her and congratulated her about the monster baby growing inside her.
Amanda bit her thumb aggressively. She could taste the metallic tang of blood, yet it did nothing to soothe the anger and humiliation brimming in her.
