Babies' Secret: My Ex Wants Me Back!-Chapter 79: Dinner Date
Chapter 79: Dinner Date
Chapter 79 - Dinner Date
Katherine stood in front of the mirror, holding up the dark red dress against her frame gingerly. Her fingers traced the fabric slowly, her lashes fanning her cheeks as she stared at herself and the dress through the mirror.
The dress was beautiful.
Her eyes glanced at the small card laid beside the big package box which read, "Red suits you best. Bring out the beautiful colour of your emerald eyes."
And her lips curled up in a smile. It was written in Aaron’s neat cursive, the handwriting sprawled on the card elegantly which show more about the person who wrote the card.
Her heart skipped a bit, the card making her feel giddy, just the little write-up. The card had come with the dress—dark red, smooth silk that was soft against her palm—and a small velvet box containing an emerald necklace with matching earrings.
Katherine shivered then shook her head at her thought. She didn’t even want to guess how much they cost because she knew it would be worth more than her yearly salary.
Still, a smile tugged the side of her lip and she twirled the dress around. The dress was beautiful. Elegant yet with subtle touch. Katherine smoothed her palm over the silk again; the fabric slipped from her hand.
Her heart thudded against her ribcage as she noticed the dress fit her too well and couldn’t deny Aaron had paid careful attention in picking it up.
Katherine blinked at her reflection in the mirror, the dress held against her front, her mind buzzing with thoughts she didn’t want to acknowledge yet as her heart continued to flutter ever since she received the package this morning and the text she received from Aaron.
Aaron: I hope you like the small gift. I’d be happy if you would do me the honor of accepting it. Dinner at 7 — just the two of us. Just us, Katherine.
Just the two of us—the words echoed in her skull like a low drum and latched to her head like a reminder.
The two of them. Her heart thumped. She hadn’t responded. She didn’t even know what to use to respond.
Katherine felt her cheeks heating up and abruptly dropped the gown on the bed with a huff. She turned away from the mirror after admiring the dress and went to the second room—the twins’ room.
She peeked her head through the door and noticed Hanith was already asleep, curled into his stuffed tiger with his chest rising and falling in soft and even rhythm as his mouth was slightly parted.
However, Jasmine was tossing on the bed. As if noticing her mother, she rolled on the bed, awake—her eyes hooded with sleep.
"Mommy," Jasmine mumbled, rubbing her eyes with the back of her hand. Her lashes fluttered sleepily. "Are you going on a date?" her voice laced with curiosity and low mischief.
Katherine chuckled quietly and walked over to tuck the blanket under her daughter’s chin as she brushed Jasmine’s curl back with a gentle stroke. "Something like that," she mumbled.
Jasmine yawned, her nose wrinkled. "With Uncle Piano?"
"Go to sleep, baby." Katherine pressed a kiss to her forehead before standing up, her heart suddenly pounding a little harder. She stepped back, double-checked the night lamp—turned on the lamp so that the warm glow could cascade in the room, then moved to the window to ensure it was properly locked. She checked the room again, then glanced at the new CCTV camera she had just installed in the kids’ room.
And released a relieved breath.
After closing the kids’ bedroom door gently, she went to the kitchen. She unplugged the electric kettle, turned off the gas, and even disconnected the cylinder—she wasn’t taking any chances. Her bare feet padded softly on the tiled floor as she crossed to the window, pulled it tight, and drew the blinds.
Then she went into the bathroom and had a quick shower. After having a quick bath, she sat at the front of the table mirror and cupboard as her reflection stared back.
She brushed her fingers under her eyes, dabbing concealer gently into the soft skin there. She brushed her wavy hair gently, untangled the mess called hair before applying the oil and mousse, then rolled it in a simple donut bun at the nape of her neck. Stray curls that didn’t tie up fell down her face as she applied a soft red lipstick on her lips to match the gown. She dabbled a tissue between her parted lips to remove the stain.
Katherine made sure she didn’t overdo the makeup—she didn’t want to look like she was delighted about the date, yet still, she had to look nice for him and for herself.
Katherine grabbed the dress gingerly, looked at the gown again before she slipped into the dress carefully and gently, fear of not wanting to damage the gown.
She took the small velvety box, reached out for the necklace as she fastened it delicately at her throat—the pendant fell in between the valley of her breasts. Took the earrings and inserted them through her lobes. Her body shivered as the earrings fell on her shoulder.
The emerald color shimmered, bringing out the color of her eyes and she hated to agree that Aaron was right.
The red dress really suited her.
She went to the rack and brought out a pair of nude heels with a matching color purse. She slipped into her heels and stood to check the kids’ room again. Jasmine had rolled over and was fast asleep, her face tucked into the crook of her elbow while Hanith snored softly. freēnovelkiss.com
She released a shaky breath, glanced at the clock to see it was almost seven.
Her stomach fluttered at the thought of seeing him soon. Would he be surprised? Would he like her? She could feel anxiety crawling to her nerves. She was nervous.
Katherine grabbed her purse, putting her phone and card inside. Her keys jingled softly as she picked up the dish by the door. She looked back one last time—at the quiet apartment, the warmth of the lamp-lit hallway—and locked the door behind her.
