Assassin at Range: The Sniper's Lethal Power-Chapter 114 - : The Oath to the Dragon God
Before coming here, Tristan had thought about obtaining the Dragon Bloodline Factor to boost his potential. Though his attributes were already powerful, who wouldn’t want to improve them further?
But as usual, things didn’t go according to plan, and events had progressed in a way he hadn’t anticipated.
"Never heard of anyone taming a Shadow Dragon as a mount in my past life," Tristan thought to himself. His knowledge of this dungeon, after all, came from his previous life’s memories. However, he didn’t recall Shadow Dragon willingly submitting to anyone. But it didn’t matter.
After pondering for a while, Tristan concluded that sparing the Shadow Dragon’s life might not be a bad idea. At the very least, it would make traveling a lot easier in the future.
With this thought in mind, Tristan made his decision. He spoke slowly, "How do I release you?"
Shadow Dragon Seltus trembled with excitement, shaking the chains loudly as it did.
"Yes!"
Suppressing its excitement, Seltus raised its head and looked at the chains nearby. "My Lord Shadow, remove the seals from the chains. Once the seals are broken, my power will no longer be suppressed, and I can break free."
Tristan couldn’t shake the feeling that this sounded strangely familiar. He vaguely recalled a bald man who had removed a seal to release a monkey...
Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, Tristan didn’t rush into action.
Seltus hurriedly reassured him, "My Lord Shadow, don’t worry. These seals only affect dragons. As a human, you won’t be affected."
Tristan wasn’t worried about that, but he had another concern. After thinking for a moment, he spoke. "Before I release you, swear an oath to the Dragon God."
Seltus looked surprised. "A Dragon God oath? This is a secret of our kind. Truly, My Lord Shadow, you know even this?"
The Dragon God oath was a very powerful vow. Dragons swore by the Dragon God’s name, and breaking the oath would bring severe consequences: the Dragon God would curse the violator, stripping them of their powers and marking them as oath-breakers, making them hunted by other dragons across the world.
Even someone as powerful as Seltus wouldn’t want to risk breaking such a vow. If it did, it wouldn’t even know how it would die.
But this was Tristan’s insurance.
He wasn’t worried about Seltus ambushing him; the dragon didn’t have the power for that. His main concern was that, once released, if Seltus decided to flee, Tristan wouldn’t be able to stop it. Dragons could fly incredibly fast, disappearing in the blink of an eye. He’d lose both the Bloodline Factor and his mount—and that would be a disaster.
Seltus understood Tristan’s worry and immediately said, "My Lord Shadow, rest assured. I will not betray you. I’ll swear the Dragon God’s oath right now."
Having made up its mind, Seltus stood firm. "It’s not my style to go back on my word," it said.
With a solemn expression, Seltus declared, "Dragon God, I, Seltus, your descendant, swear by your name to be loyal to My Lord Shadow for the rest of my life."
As it spoke, ancient willpower filled the dungeon, and golden words appeared in the air, forming a parchment. Seltus spat out a drop of dragon blood, which landed on the parchment. The dragon then looked weakly at Tristan and said, "My Lord Shadow, please mark your blood to complete the vow."
Tristan had heard of this ritual before. Drawing a dagger, he cut his fingertip. His blood began to flow and, drawn by an unseen force, slowly made its way toward the parchment.
Once Tristan’s blood touched the parchment, it transformed into a golden stream that flowed into both his and Seltus’s bodies.
"System notification: You have completed the Dragon God Oath and gained Seltus’s loyalty."
Tristan felt a wave of relief. Unlike people, the ExoGenesis system didn’t lie. If it said it was done, it was done.
The contract complete, Seltus felt a touch of sadness. It would now always be bound by the Dragon God’s oath. But then, it remembered it was now connected to the inheritor of Shadow power! Perhaps, in the future, it could share in some of that power’s glory.
Compared to the Umbra Energy it had previously mastered, Shadow power was an entirely different level. With some luck, Seltus might even learn a thing or two.

Thinking about this, Seltus brightened up. After all, it had been imprisoned here just waiting for My Lord Shadow.
The oath completed, Tristan said, "Wait here. Let me see how to remove these seals."
Seltus’s eyes gleamed with anticipation, but it was also cautious. "My Lord Shadow, though that old man said the seals only affect dragons, we can’t be sure he didn’t have a trick up his sleeve. If it’s too difficult, please don’t force it."
Tristan smiled and reassured it, "Don’t worry. I’ve got it under control."
With five layers of Shadow Prism and Shadow Leap at his disposal, not to mention his decoy voodoo doll, removing a seal shouldn’t be an issue.
Still, he proceeded cautiously. Slowly, he approached the closest seal, taking a moment to observe it before acting. He didn’t understand much about seals, but he could make out a few symbols: "Dragon Clan," "Shadow," "Suppression," "Harmless"...
Making up his mind, Tristan reached out and grabbed one corner of the seal, pulling it with all his strength.
Whoosh!
The seal floated up and disintegrated in mid-air.
Nothing else happened.
Just as Seltus had said, the seals only affected dragons.
With that, Tristan didn’t waste any more time. He swiftly removed the remaining seals.
Throughout the process, Seltus remained perfectly still, not daring to make a sound. It could feel the suppression weakening.
When Tristan reached the last seal, something unexpected occurred.
A half-transparent figure appeared in front of him.
Before Tristan could react, Seltus screamed in fury, "Damn that old man! What’s he doing here?"
It was the figure of the man who had imprisoned it.
Tristan immediately tensed up. If this person had the power to seal Seltus, his strength must be considerable—likely at least Level 100, if not higher. Even if it wasn’t the same man, Tristan wasn’t about to lower his guard.
But the figure didn’t attack. Instead, it spoke calmly, "Beware, releasing the Shadow Dragon will bring unforeseen disaster. Proceed with caution."
Tristan let out a breath of relief. He thought for a moment, then replied seriously, "I’ve sworn the Dragon God Oath with Shadow Dragon. It won’t threaten the world anymore."
He wasn’t sure if his words would have any effect, but it was worth a try. After all, he had already removed the seals—no one could stop him now.
The figure faded away, and Seltus sighed in relief as well.
Though it had been furious moments ago, it was also a little anxious. Fortunately, the figure didn’t leave any deadly traps, just a warning. If it had, Seltus wasn’t sure what it would have done.
Tristan waited a few moments to ensure nothing else appeared, then reached out to remove the final seal.
Boom!
The dungeon trembled as an immense surge of energy erupted from within Shadow Dragon.
Seltus shouted, "My Lord Shadow, get back! I’m coming out!"
