Mermaids are also fish!
What is the weakness of a fish?
The weakness of a fish is that it cannot leave water!
Without the enhancement of water, the power of this mermaid was effectively halved.
“Whoosh!!”
On the river, the Mermaid Monster whipped its tail creating a large wave that it poured down onto Qi Hao, the weakest on the field.
Xu Siming acted quickly, summoning an Ice Wall to shield Qi Hao from the damage.
On the shore, Ji Wanwan’s face turned pale, and she cursed under her breath, “Not good!”
The Mermaid Monster appeared to be attacking Qi Hao, but in reality, it was launching a sneak attack on Ming Jing.
After stirring up a large wave, the Mermaid Monster swiftly dove underwater, feinted under Xu Siming’s watchful eye, and swam rapidly towards Ming Jing.
At this moment, Ming Jing was still harvesting the occasional low-level zombie that popped up, fully trusting her teammates to handle the Mermaid Monster, so she was off guard.
By the time she sensed the oppressive feeling suddenly coming from behind her, the Mermaid Monster was already close.
In a hurry, she turned around, and a shadow fell before her eyes, the gruesome and ugly face of the Mermaid Monster filled her vision, and instinctively, Ming Jing frantically tried to use her Vine to shield herself.
But how could the soft Vine stop a Mermaid Monster, whose body was hard as iron?
Ming Jing’s heart sank, feeling that her end had come!
In a daze, she heard Ji Xing’s loud shout.
“Watch out!!”
“Clang—”
A violent metal collision rang out as the Mermaid Monster rammed its head into the metal wall Ji Xing had just condensed, sparking in all directions, and the metal wall crumbled instantly, causing a backlash that made Ji Xing taste blood in his throat.
But Ji Xing keenly noticed that on the top of the Mermaid Monster’s head, where the metallic fireworks had scorched it, damage appeared, and black smoke rose!
The Mermaid Monster also became visibly angry because of this hit, and from its movements, it was clear that the wound on its head was causing it pain.
Ji Xing’s expression brightened, having found the breakthrough in dealing with the Mermaid Monster.
Just as he was about to pass the message to his teammates, the enraged Mermaid Monster in the water suddenly surged forth, leaping out of the water and, with its eyes blood-red, aimed a quick, powerful tail slap at Ji Xing.
Ji Xing, weakened briefly by the backlash, couldn’t dodge in time and was struck, flying straight into the river.
“Xingxing Zai!!!”
“Xingxing!”
“Xing Zai!”
“Ji Xing!”
“Xiao Xing!”
Ming Jing was the closest and reacted fastest.
Seeing the zombies in the water swarm towards the unconscious Ji Xing, she quickly extended her Vines in the water, rapidly locating the fallen Ji Xing.
“Splash!”
Ming Jing manipulated the Vines to wrap Ji Xing entirely and lift him out of the water; immediately following, Ji Wanwan grabbed Ming Jing with one hand and Ji Xing with the other, teleporting back to the shore.
On the river, fired up by Ji Xing’s accident, Xu Siming, Xia Li, and Qi Hao’s anger ignited in an instant, unleashing even more violent energy damage on the Mermaid Monster.
Onshore.
Through her Vine’s senses, Ming Jing, noticing Ji Xing’s faint breath, had her eyes redden.
“Xingxing Zai…”
If it weren’t for him taking that hit for her, Xingxing Zai wouldn’t be this injured.
Hearing Ming Jing’s sobbing tone, Ji Wanwan looked at her somewhat surprised; just as she was about to administer Equivalence Healing to treat Ji Xing’s wounds, she saw Ming Jing frown deeply and directed a small Vine to pierce into Ji Xing’s neck.
A faint luminescent green energy lit up, and energy began to slowly flow from Ming Jing’s body into Ji Xing’s.
Wood Element Superpower, the strongest Life System Superpower, its energy possessed healing effects; although not as immediate as Equivalence Healing, it could still save a life in critical times.
Ji Wanwan, who had already extended her hand, shifted her gaze and then retracted her hand.
Once she confirmed Ji Xing was not in life-threatening danger, she twiddled her fingertips, “Xiao Mingjing, take care of Xingxing. That ugly thing in the river dared to hurt my brother, I’ll kill it!”
At that moment, Ji Xing, who was being nourished by Wood Element Energy, regained consciousness.
“Sis…” he murmured.
Ji Wanwan’s heart skipped a beat, “Eh, I’m here!”
Ji Xing’s eyes shifted towards the Mermaid battling with Xu Siming and the other two on the river, his gaze suddenly fierce, “That ugly thing is afraid of fire!”
A light sparked in Ji Wanwan’s eyes.
At such a critical time, her brother definitely wouldn’t be talking nonsense. He must have seen something.
Water fears fire, indeed the elements nurture and counteract each other.
She patted Ji Xing’s shoulder, “I got it, you rest up!”
With that, Ji Wanwan teleported to the center of the battle.
As Ji Xing lay on the ground, aching all over, he wondered, “?”
She’s leaving just like that?
Why isn’t she healing him?
Sis, don’t you love your brother anymore??
Meanwhile, on the river.
Xu Siming launched a large-scale attack with ice spikes, assailing the Mermaid from all directions.
The Mermaid, also capable of controlling Water Energy, quickly dissolved the ice spikes, behind which Xia Li was already poised with his greatsword, waiting.
“Clang!”
A swing that emitted a pale red energy wave collided with the Mermaid, producing a violent clash akin to metal striking metal, echoing underwater.
Because of the slashing force, the Mermaid rapidly plummeted towards the riverbed.
Underwater, the ground shook tremendously.
Qi Hao manipulated the riverbed sediment to build up like a castle, piling layer upon layer, completely burying the swiftly falling Mermaid.
Feeling the lack of movement within the mound, Qi Hao ceased his actions.
Peace returned to the river’s surface.
On the shore, Ji Xing had regained some of his physical strength and, with Ming Jing’s assistance, sat up.
Staring at the tranquil river surface, Ming Jing was indecisive, “Is the Mermaid Monster dead?”
With narrowed eyes, Ji Xing scoffed, “How could it be that easy?”
Wanjiale’s Level 4 zombie had already proven to be a tough opponent, nearly decimating everyone. This time’s zombie was clearly stronger than the previous Level 4 ones. How could it be dispatched so easily?
Above the river.
Unable to sense any life within the mound, Qi Hao was at a loss, “Is it dead? Escaped?”
Xu Siming, panting slightly from the ongoing fight, said, “With that level of attack, it’s impossible for it to be dead. It could only have escaped.”
Though he had his suspicions, Qi Hao still found it hard to believe, “But I didn’t feel its escape route, nor did I see anything unusual in the water.”
Xia Li’s beautiful eyes were fixed on the depths, her body tense, vigilant at all times.
Ji Wanwan stepped forward, “Everyone, stay close to me. Stay alert and don’t let your guard down!”
Everyone immediately understood Ji Wanwan’s intent. If something went wrong, she’d continue to use teleportation as a last resort to whisk everyone away to the brink of escape.
The four stood back-to-back, forming a circle on Xu Siming’s conjured ice surface.
And so they stood, at a stalemate for roughly one minute, with no movement from beneath the water.
In a life-or-death battle, one minute could determine the fate of countless lives. Yet in this minute, everyone was as if they had pressed the pause button, motionless.
Sustained high-tension could wear anyone down, even if it was just for a minute.
Qi Hao was the first to waver.
He felt his vision blurring, “My sight is getting fuzzy. Should we go to the shore and wait for it to emerge?”
“Don’t act rashly!” Xu Siming softly soothed, “The Mermaid is wounded; it’s having a harder time than us. It won’t be long before it reveals itself.”
Ji Wanwan, however, felt something was amiss, “Haozi, what did you say? Your eyes are a bit blurry?”
