Apocalypse: I Built the Infinite Train-Chapter 195: Preparation
“What about the chemical plant?” KIKI asked.
“Same as before—you and me. But this time, just in case something unexpected happens, I’ll bring Lü Chang, Miao Lu, and a few others along. They can cover us if needed.”
“Huh?” Sasa widened her eyes. “What about me?”
“Xian-ge,” Big Lou also chimed in, “let me go with you to the chemical plant tomorrow.”
Lin Xian shook his head. “No, I’ve got a more important job for you two.”
“What task?”
“Guard the train.”
“Huh?” Big Lou looked confused. “Didn’t you say it’s dangerous over there?”
“It’s dangerous here too.” Lin Xian’s tone held a hint of meaning as he lowered his head, continuing to manufacture bullets. “Our goal might be someone else’s stronghold—but that doesn’t mean they’re not thinking the same thing.”

“So, Sasa, Big Lou, I want you two to form the strongest firepower with the close-in defense cannons on board. If anyone tries to raid the train—blast them.”
Big Lou was momentarily stunned. Sasa immediately nudged him with her elbow and said, “Dummy, what Lin-ge means is that it’s just as dangerous here. We just follow his lead.”
Big Lou nodded. “Got it, Xian-ge. Don’t worry—I’ll guard the train well.”
“And me?” Chen Sixuan finally spoke up. Seeing everyone else getting assignments, her expression dimmed. She looked at Lin Xian and asked, “Do I have to stay back and guard the train again?”
Lin Xian raised an eyebrow and looked at her. “No, Ms. Chen, not this time.” He pointed to the warehouse not far from the freight station under the night sky. “The rooftop of that warehouse is the highest point around here. I need you up there providing cover for everyone.”
Chen Sixuan’s eyes lit up. “Really? But…”
“Yay! Chen-jiejie’s gonna be a sniper!” KIKI said excitedly. “This is your time to shine!”
Chen Sixuan looked at Lin Xian and then nodded seriously, taking a deep breath. “Okay, I understand.”
For the first time, she was being given a combat role. Strangely enough, instead of fear, she felt excited—completely forgetting the usual dread of the darkness.
...
That night, Infinity was sealed shut. Aside from those on night duty, Lin Xian instructed everyone else to get some rest early.
After what happened the night before, he now understood that the platform wasn’t likely to be invaded by anomalies from outside. The King Kong convoy certainly wasn’t going to risk moving out at night, either. The only real concern were the pseudo-humans—but after that big assault wave, they all seemed to have retreated back into town. There’d been no sign of activity since.
And honestly, compared to true anomalies, the pseudo-humans weren’t all that dangerous. Their biggest threat came from infiltrating the train. In terms of raw combat capability, they didn’t even match a Class-C anomaly like the Red Dragonfly from Beiwang. With Infinity’s current defenses, they could handle it.
In Carriage 1, Lin Xian took a shower—a hot one.
Since leaving Jiang City, opportunities like this had been rare. Although Infinity had always had bathrooms, water had been a precious resource during the early stages of their flight. And after learning that the world’s water systems had been tainted by the darkness, people avoided washing whenever possible.
But now, with the hetero-cube and Lin Xian’s specialized filtration system, the water issue had been resolved. The girls on board could finally take proper showers too—washing away the blood and exhaustion they’d picked up during countless nights of fleeing.
After his shower, Lin Xian pulled out a heavy object from his storage locker and placed it on the table. Then he opened up his [Mechanical Heart] system and began manually drawing up a blueprint.
The object on the table was a mechanical arm that Shuqin had taken from Guo Lao’er’s body when they were in Yubei. Lin Xian had already scanned it. The blueprint read:
[Genesis Industries HG55-Series Mechanical Prosthetic – Left Arm]
It wasn’t particularly high-end—intended more for amputees who needed help with industrial work. Still, because it was built for heavy-duty tasks, it had high torque and full-metal construction. Even a normal person equipped with it would see a decent boost in combat strength. Of course, it wasn’t nearly as agile or versatile as military-grade models.
But Guo Lao’er had modified it illegally, making it borderline weaponized—and dangerous.
Lin Xian opened a recessed slot on the prosthetic’s forearm. Inside was a small metallic stick—actually a microbomb. He scanned it and confirmed it contained a high-energy compound likely based on nitrogen anion salts.
Crafting something like this bomb was no challenge for Lin Xian, but he wanted to design a simple mounting and detonation system—based on the reactor core setup from the chemical plant.
As for the prosthetic arm itself, he considered either scanning or devouring it. Repairing it would take too much time. Instead, he could mount it on the train and use it for external mechanical operations.
“Oh right—his TRP Mark IV industrial-grade powered exosuit. I need to get my hands on that thing.”
Lifting a hand, Lin Xian activated the fabrication center. A flash of light and materials swirled together—soon forming a completed microbomb.
“With that exosuit, I could expand our arsenal. I wouldn’t have to rely solely on Wind Cannon or Electro Surge. My research center’s blueprint upgrades could center around the suit too. I could even give each team member a set.”
The thought fired him up. He’d been disappointed that he hadn’t scanned a military-grade exosuit earlier. Who would’ve thought he’d come across one in a backwater town like this? It was a lucky break.
After wrapping up his preparations, Lin Xian went to Carriage 2 to check the sentry system and confirm that everything around the train was secure. Only then did he relax and return to Carriage 1.
With Shuqin and the others on watch, he caught some rest—four hours, to be exact. When he got up, it was already past 2 a.m.
Chen Sixuan, KIKI, and the others were still asleep. Lin Xian planned to wake up Sasa, Big Lou, and the capable fighters Lü Chang and Miao Lu to start prepping ammunition. He also wanted to let Shuqin get some rest.
But when he arrived at Carriage 3, he suddenly heard soft female murmuring and panting. His interface scan showed no sign of Ding Quanjun. Curious, he redirected the scan toward the lounge.
Sure enough—the sounds were coming from there.
Suspicious, he walked over and was about to knock when Ding Junyi’s voice came from inside.
“Wait a second.”
A few shuffling sounds followed—like someone getting dressed. A minute later, the lounge door opened, and Ding Junyi stood there, her cheeks flushed. She looked at Lin Xian and asked, “Is something wrong?”
Lin Xian frowned slightly, eyes narrowing. “You’re off shift. Shouldn’t you be asleep right now?”
