Alpha's Hidden Precious Luna-Chapter 37
Kai POV
It had become a routine for me to check on Lily secretly every night after she fell asleep. That was the only way I could stay insane and keep my wolf in check too.
The pressure was becoming too much for us to handle. It was noon and I was feeling overwhelmed again. The daylight filtered through the curtains, casting a long shadow across my bedroom. I sat on the edge of my bed, a small, wooden box cradled in my hands. Carefully, I lifted the lid, revealing a neatly folded t-shirt inside.
It was nothing special to look at – just a simple cotton garment in a soft shade of blue. But to me, it was a precious gift. I lifted the shirt to my face, inhaling deeply. I could smell the faint, lingering scent of Lily on the shirt. The fabric felt soft between my fingers and her scent – fresh, sweet with a hint of something wild that filled my senses.
It enveloped me, intoxicating me in the process. I felt Hud stir within me, howling with longing but there was nothing I could do. I had reduced myself to inhaling my mate’s scent through her shirt. That was the only thing that kept me going.
I knew it felt like an obsession, but the need to surround myself with her scent has made me lose reason. Hud has recognized his mate and being separated from her was a constant, gnawing ache to both of us. This was the only way I could comfort myself.
My eyes were closed, imagining it was Lily I had in my hands as I continued sniffing her scent. I was so engrossed in my thoughts that I didn’t hear the door open until Liam’s voice broke through the silence. Before I could react, he was standing in front of me, his eyebrows raised as he took in the scene before him.
“I don’t have to guess who that belongs to,” Liam said nodding towards the shirt in my hands.
“Or you could learn to knock before you barge into someone’s room. What if I was naked? Or with a woman?” I hissed as my jaw tightened. I felt a flash of irritation at the interruption. Sighing, I carefully folded the shirt and placed it back in the box before turning to Liam again, my expression hardening.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, my voice still low with irritation “Is there something you need?” I asked.
Liam sat down in an empty chair in my room, completely unfazed by the anger simmering within me. He studied me with a mixture of amusement and concern. He arched an eyebrow, glancing at the box with mild curiosity. “Just checking in,” he replied, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. “Though I have to admit, I’m relieved you didn’t take her lingerie or something more... intimate. Though I have to say, this is still pretty weird, man,”.
I shot him a withering glare, narrowing my eyes at him as a sneer crossed my face. “Mock me all you want, Lima but you’ll have your problems when you find your mate. I’m looking forward to seeing you struggle with the same urges,”.
Liam chuckled, unbothered by the threat. “Maybe,” he smirked leaning back in the chair he had just settled into. “But I don’t think I’ll be sneaking around sniffing her clothes in secret,”.
“Or you could be much worse than me,” I retorted “Just pray to the moon that you do not have a difficult situation like me when you find her. It’s not funny, Liam... I want to be with my mate every second but everything is just wrong timing,” I sighed “Do you know how many times I’ve contemplated eloping with her? Never in my wildest imaginations did I think I would be thinking of that as an option. Everything just seems impossible. I envy you,”.
Liam held up his hands in surrender. “Fair enough but I’m not here to judge and I’m not going to make any comment about your relationship because it’s none of my business and I trust that you’ll be able to sort things out. Anyways, I’m here, because I wanted to go over the plans for tomorrow’s meeting with Lily’s father one last time,”.
At the mention of the meeting, my sneer faded as I straightened my collar. My expression was replaced instantly by a more serious expression. I had nearly forgotten about the meeting.
“Yeah,” I nodded “The meeting is happening in the afternoon, right?”
“Yes, Alpha,” Liam nodded, his tone shifting to a more businesslike tone. “I heard he has a track record of keeping to time, let’s hope he would be prompt this time around,”.
“Yeah,” I nodded “What’s our status? Is everything ready?”
“Yes, everything’s set and in place,” Liam reported “The meeting is scheduled for two o’clock. I’ve arranged for the meeting to take place in the neutral territory of the old hunting lodge. Security has been vetted and we’ve made some personnel fallback plans just in case, Alpha Gregory Stone has something up his sleeve,” he paused before continuing.
“Also, the meeting is as private as private can be. Only a few of our trusted warriors know what why we’ll be going there and I’ll make sure no one from their side will meet Lily. I’ve arranged for her to spend the day with your sister and I briefed Celeste about the situation so she would make sure Lily doesn’t run into any delegate from her former pack,”.
“Good,” I said, relief evident in my voice. I wasn’t ready for Lily to know about his meeting – not until I had more information and until I was sure she had no intention of going back home.
Also, I have been anticipating this meeting for a long time. I was eager to uncover the secrets that surrounded Lily and her family. There was just something about her that didn’t seem to add up no matter how much I think about it. And I had a feeling that everything was directly or indirectly related to her not having a wolf.
“I can’t wait to uncover the secrets of my mate and her family,” I said almost to myself as I rose and went to stand by the window.
“Do you really think her father will give anything away?” Liam asked curiosity in his voice.
My lips curved into a cold smile. “He won’t have a choice,” I replied. “I have a few questions that I’m certain he’ll want to answer. If he values his daughter’s well-being, he’ll tell me everything I need to know without me asking,”.
