After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World-Chapter 1909: Ferrol vs Papell Town (Part 2)
Water-infused arrows flew by, hitting level 30 leaders where it hurt, going through the shield that had already been weakened by the sentry. They didn’t die, but they were in definite pain, and soon this was followed by another rain of arrows.
Crossbows were a common weapon in the region now, but since Papell was two regions away, they had not seen so many before, so this massive and fast barrage of arrows caught them off guard.
Everyone with shields did their best to cover themselves, but some tried to squeeze underneath, which ultimately caused some imbalances and more people to be hit.
"Heh, we might not be that strong, but don’t underestimate us!"
The people here were Minko and a few others, and they continued to barrage the enemies on this side, reducing the enemy forces. They were also given a few bombs, but not too many, so they reserved them for now.
Still, the sound of heavy impacts resounded all around the territory, especially in the area where the trebuchets were.
BANG!
BANG!
They had heard about how town wars were in others, and some of them even witnessed how it happened back in Flaret-Voumi Town war.
The gap between level 1 and level 3...was indeed vast.
The strongmen from both sides rammed into each other, creating strong shockwaves all around.
This was on top of sturdy projectiles that would target particular spots on the wall, ensuring that parts would give way sooner rather than later.
Rigam watched as the weapons dismantled a part of the walls, and the forces focused their attacks there.
Both sides consciously tried to push their fights to the other side, so that the inevitable collateral damage—the deadly forces around powerhouses—wouldn’t affect their own side, but add to the collateral in the enemy’s.
Being around a fight of strongmen was bound to cause injuries to them. Why not make use of that to lessen enemy numbers?
This was especially the case when elementalists met. The collateral damage was much higher, bloodier, and more intense in these cases.
Bursts of flames, deep gorges, suffocating water, and so on exploded in the area. These elemental attacks have extra penetrating damage too, causing equipment and overall defense of others to reduce more than usual.
Of course, there weren’t usually that many, so their fights (including the other powerhouses) were isolated and would form a vacuum around them, with people actively avoiding the attacks with varying success.
The densest fight of powerhouses was, unsurprisingly, around the dwarven trebuchets. The other side naturally targeted this blasted thing, at least make sure it wouldn’t be used to throw projectiles again.
Rigam cursed, sending his own fire against the enemy. "Crystal City lent us so many things. We can’t afford to lose them!"
BANG!
BOOM!
Several of their powerhouses were assigned to guard the trebuchet, and rightfully so, and soon one of the more intense fights exploded right at the enemy line.
Still, while this happened, the trebuchet kept throwing projectile after projectile, as if maximizing its service life.
The Dwarven weapons were quite special. They automatically infused aether into each shot, with specific arrays into it, and it was why it could damage walls.
That said, these weapons could only damage walls up to a certain level, as seen in Towns. The City that lent it to them had received a lot of money and resources for their use, but their actual use in a City-level war was limited. Otherwise, why would they even lend out such a good thing?
As for whether the dwarves would able to develop something that could truly be detrimental to cities, that remained to be seen.
Anyway, with it, the gap in the wall grew bigger and bigger until more people could fit in at the same time.
The attacking side dashed inside as fast as they could, aiming to get into buildings and find good spots to attack enemies or find places to hide or trap the enemies.
...
At the side, over the roof of one of the buildings, some Alterran guards and soldiers looked at the war with solemn expressions on their faces.
They were in position, and other than Minko and a few others who were in the battlement, the rest were watching using their scopes.
"So those are examples of dwarven weapons."
"Some of them, yes," Obi said, crossing his arms. He was sent as support along with the others this time, and Leez and the other two were there with them. This was a war for level 3 town, after all, the previous two levels would not compare.
That said, although he could not attack due to his level, he could assist in other ways. Mostly defense and neutralization of attacks, and that was already plenty of assistance. He himself had thrown out his own elemental projectiles that slowed down trebuchet shots, minimizing the actual damage they could cause on the walls.
With powerhouses like him, the rest could attack and do their best to cause damage to the enemies, knowing there was a teammate behind them to capture them if they fell.
Such a thought, in battle, was actually extremely meaningful.
They were looking at the ongoing battle for now, keeping in position, though they admitted they were a little tempted to head out now.
Since they were in another’s territory fighting in another territory’s war, they listened to the overall military strategy for Ferrol this time. They were assigned to guard a sector, adjusting accordingly. They were there to neutralize any attacks here and also monitor any suspicious activity.
This was a fairly high-traffic area, too, and if a breach was made, this area would be chaotic. Hopefully, their precious mercenary branch hall would survive this ordeal.
The highest position in the Ferrol military was an old man named Tibay, a level 45 elementalist. Right now, he was leading the team aiming to take down the trebuchets. He had already hit one of the earth users creating the weights, which ultimately slowed down the shots.
"I heard there were even stronger versions of trebuchets, but this one is helpful enough in this war. If they didn’t have us, Ferrol could’ve been in trouble."
In terms of comprehensive strength, Ferrol was superior to Papell Town.
However, Crystal City broke this balance and lent some dwarven tools that they had been keeping.
