Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Wyatt Sterling Played a Grand Game

Wyatt Sterling arrived at William Churchill’s study.

The door was open. He raised his hand and knocked. KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK. At the three raps, William Churchill, who had been engrossed in his work, looked up from his desk.

"Wyatt, you’re here."

William Churchill rose from behind his desk to greet him.

"It seems I’m a bit early," Wyatt Sterling said, striding in as his gaze swept across William Churchill’s study.

"Not at all. Perfect timing." William Churchill pointed to the nearby sofa. "Please, sit."

Wyatt Sterling lifted the hem of his jacket and sat down on the sofa, crossing his long legs. He made himself as comfortable as if he were in his own home.

William Churchill called for a servant to prepare tea, then retrieved a contract from the desk and sat down opposite Wyatt Sterling.

"We’ve already discussed the cooperation agreement. This is the contract I’ve drawn up. Wyatt, take a look first. If anything doesn’t seem right, let me know, and we can discuss it further. After all, this concerns the long-term partnership between our two families."

William Churchill pushed the contract across the table.

Wyatt Sterling picked it up and opened it. Across from him, William Churchill continued, "Our two families should have been helping each other all along, but we missed the right time due to some old grievances. It hasn’t been easy to finally get this opportunity today."

Wyatt Sterling said flatly, "No, it hasn’t."

William Churchill added with a smile, "That Alice York is quite something, too. I asked Scott, and he said he likes her a lot."

Scott was William Churchill’s eldest son, Scott Churchill—a man born with an intellectual disability due to a genetic disorder.

When he first learned that Scott was intellectually disabled, William Churchill felt like his world was ending. But by a stroke of luck, his identical twin brother, Kyle Churchill, was healthy.

The identical twins were so similar that their gender, appearance, and height were virtually indistinguishable. The only difference was their intelligence.

One was disabled, the other was not.

The Churchill family’s genetics had sealed their fate. As painful as it was, William Churchill had no choice but to accept this reality. To protect Scott, he never publicly revealed the fact that he had twins.

The world only knew of Kyle Churchill.

No one knew that Kyle had an intellectually disabled older brother named Scott Churchill.

But this meant that Scott, hidden from the light, couldn’t marry and have children. Out of guilt, William Churchill had decided in the last year or two to build a family for Scott, and so he began planning to select a suitable wife for him.

Just then, Old Mrs. Churchill passed away, and Simon Sterling sent his condolences. William Churchill held no animosity toward the Sterlings and had a long, pleasant chat with him.

Later, the conversation turned to their sons. After exchanging praises, they discussed marriage prospects. William naturally brought up his worries about finding a wife—framing it as a search for Kyle—and Simon Sterling immediately proposed someone: Alice York.

But he looked down on someone like Alice.

She was just an adopted daughter, after all.

However, upon learning that she was a doctor specializing in neurology, her status as an adopted daughter suddenly seemed unimportant. She was a perfect match for his Scott, so he agreed on the spot. Simon Sterling also promised him that when Silas came to Washington, he would bring Alice along.

Just when he thought his plan was foolproof, Wyatt Sterling somehow found out about his bait-and-switch scheme. Fortunately, Wyatt didn’t say much, only reminding him to keep a close eye on Scott for the time being.

For the past few days, William Churchill had people watching Scott carefully. Meanwhile, he had Kyle deal with her first. When the time was right, he would have Kyle and Scott take turns meeting her. All they had to do was keep up the deception until the wedding was a success.

Everything was going smoothly.

Except that recently, both Kyle and Scott had run into some trouble. He still hadn’t found out who was behind it. He’d considered that Kyle might have offended someone, but as long as he couldn’t find the culprit, he couldn’t rest easy. And today, the incident with the photos being delivered to him had made things even more worrying.

"Does Scott even understand what ’like’ means?" Wyatt Sterling asked, looking up after finishing the contract.

"He does. He heard Alice York is very beautiful, and he says he likes her a lot," William Churchill said with a broad smile. "Alice is a good match for my Scott. I’m quite satisfied."

Wyatt Sterling stretched out his hand and tossed the contract back onto the table. "I’m quite satisfied, too."

William Churchill: "See? I told you..."

Before William Churchill could finish, Wyatt Sterling suddenly interjected, "But the cooperating party needs to be changed."

The words stunned William Churchill. "Isn’t it our two families?"

Wyatt Sterling folded his hands and placed them in his lap, sitting up straight. "You’ll be cooperating with me alone, not with the Sterlings."

William Churchill was a seasoned player. Though he didn’t understand at first, Wyatt Sterling’s last sentence made everything crystal clear.

He stated his position immediately. "That’s not happening. I’m only cooperating with the Sterlings."

Although he acknowledged Wyatt Sterling’s capabilities, the Sterling family was the foundation. He didn’t dare take such a risk.

Wyatt Sterling wasn’t surprised by William Churchill’s direct refusal. He said unhurriedly, "Not only will you agree today, but in one month, the actual controlling shareholder of Churchill Corp. must also be me."

As soon as the words left his mouth,

William Churchill shot to his feet, the smile vanishing from his face, replaced by a furious expression. "Wyatt Sterling, don’t get too greedy! Cooperation is cooperation, but this... you’re trying to swallow the Churchill Family whole!"

Wyatt Sterling smiled. "I’ve always had a big appetite."

"Then there’s nothing to talk about."

Just as William Churchill leaned over to take back the contract, he suddenly heard Wyatt Sterling ask, "Did you receive the photos this morning?"

William Churchill froze, but he managed to keep his composure, feigning ignorance. "What photos?"

Wyatt Sterling: "Kyle’s explicit photos."

Hearing those words, William Churchill felt something explode in his head. "You sent the photos?"

Wyatt Sterling said nonchalantly, "That Mason Cheney... he forgot to sign his name."

How presumptuous that sounded. He forgot to sign his name? If he had written the four words "Sent by Wyatt Sterling," William Churchill might have fainted on the spot.

Seeing William Churchill’s anger escalating, Wyatt Sterling said placatingly, "Calm down. This is just the beginning. Sit down, let’s talk slowly."

William Churchill had no choice but to suppress his fury again and again. When he sat back down, his expression was barely composed.

He said with forced calm, "Genetics has too great an influence. Scott is ill, and Kyle is certainly a handful."

William Churchill had known for a long time that Kyle was gay. He had beaten him and cursed at him, but nothing worked. He couldn’t change him.

Two sons, yet the family line was broken. It was truly a curse.

Wyatt Sterling offered a helpful suggestion. "Genetics might play a part, but you should also find some time to check on your ancestral graves."

William Churchill was speechless and didn’t retort.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK. There was a knock on the study door. It was the butler.

After entering, the butler saw Wyatt Sterling was also present and looked at William Churchill, hesitating to speak. William Churchill said grimly, "Go on."

The butler said, "We’ve found the young master."

William Churchill looked up. Noticing the butler’s strange expression, his brow twitched. "Speak. What happened?"

The butler glanced at Wyatt Sterling, then back at William Churchill, and stammered, "The young master is at... at the Stellaris Club... doing drugs."

"What?!" 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

William Churchill abruptly shot to his feet.

He looked agitated, but he wasn’t as shocked as he appeared. He had always known about Kyle’s drug use, but for it to happen at this critical juncture...

The butler continued, "The Third Master’s men are guarding the door, preventing us from going in to get the young master. They said that you, sir, must speak with the Third Master. If the talk goes well, you can take the young master. If not, the Third Master will call the police and have them take him away."

Hearing this, William Churchill’s face turned pale, and his hands and feet went cold.

He turned his head to look at Wyatt Sterling, the wrinkles on his face twitching as he asked through gritted teeth, "Wyatt Sterling, what in the world are you trying to do?"
