Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Alice York, You Lied

"You don’t have to come with me, Third Uncle. Zoe’s hotel is very close to the Churchill residence. I’ll just go see her and come right back. I won’t be out late."

The moment Alice York finished speaking, the atmosphere turned glacial.

Wyatt Sterling stared straight into Alice York’s eyes and, after a long moment, said, "Alice York, you’re lying."

Alice York’s heart sank.

She had lied in a moment of desperation, but she’d forgotten that the man before her was Wyatt Sterling. How could her micro-expressions possibly escape his notice?

’It’s over. I can’t go.’

She should have gone to meet her last night. But there was an accident on the way back, and Holden Locke knew she might not be able to make it. If she didn’t go tonight either, Zoe would be worried sick.

"Which hotel?"

Just as Alice York was frantic with anxiety, she suddenly heard Wyatt Sterling ask for the hotel’s address.

The surprise came so suddenly, but she was afraid of getting her hopes up for nothing. She had to suppress her excitement and ask cautiously, "Does this mean you’ll let me go, Third Uncle?"

Wyatt Sterling watched her, seeing how she wanted to be happy but didn’t dare to show it. Her eyes were so full of life.

He put away the first-aid kit and deliberately put on a stern face. "I didn’t agree."

Alice York’s face fell. She knew it.

Wyatt Sterling couldn’t help but smile as he added, "But we can have your friend come here. Also, if you’re happy, be happy. If you’re not, show it. I’ll take it into consideration."

Those words were like a shot of adrenaline for Alice York.

She excitedly threw herself at Wyatt Sterling. "Third Uncle, you’re the best!"

Wyatt Sterling wrapped an arm around her back to steady her, a deep smile playing on his lips. "So now you know how good I am. I bet you curse me behind my back all the time."

"No, I never curse you behind your back, Third Uncle," she denied.

Wyatt Sterling couldn’t be bothered to expose her lie again. He patted her on the butt. "Get up. Don’t get iodine on me. It’s hard to wash out."

Hearing that, she scrambled up.

Thinking about what she had just done, her cheeks burned. Wyatt Sterling had actually let her pounce on him. ’I can’t do that again.’

「As dusk fell, a car pulled up outside the Churchill family’s villa.」

Mason Cheney was driving, with Zoe Jenson and Holden Locke in the back seat. Wyatt Sterling had only permitted Zoe Jenson to see Alice York. Holden Locke had come along, but he could only go as far as the Churchill’s gate; he couldn’t enter.

"Don’t be nervous. You’ll see her in a moment." Holden Locke gently patted Zoe Jenson’s arm reassuringly.

Zoe Jenson puffed out her cheeks to calm herself, but she couldn’t contain her excitement, nor could she shake the prim and proper expression she had to constantly maintain.

She took several deep breaths, right until Mason Cheney opened the car door for her. "Miss Jenson, we’re here."

"Coming, coming."

Zoe Jenson hurried to get out of the car, but just then, Holden Locke suddenly grabbed her hand. "Zoe."

Zoe Jenson turned back. "Uncle?"

Holden Locke’s voice was steady. "When you see Alice, remember to tell her that I came, too."

Zoe Jenson nodded. "I know, I’ll tell her."

"Good." Only then did Holden Locke release her hand.

Mason Cheney glanced impassively at Holden Locke and snorted inwardly. ’So many schemes.’

Meanwhile, Alice York was pacing back and forth in her room.

Finally, she heard a knock. She rushed to open the door, a brilliant smile she’d been saving on her face, but the moment she saw Wyatt Sterling standing outside, it wilted.

"Disappointed to see me?" Wyatt Sterling asked, looking very displeased with a sour expression on his face.

Afraid of upsetting him, Alice York quickly tried to smooth things over. "Not disappointed. It’s, it’s... I just suddenly remembered I can’t be so flippant in front of you, Third Uncle."

Wyatt Sterling: "Not a very convincing lie."

Alice York: "..."

He stepped aside, his scrutinizing gaze falling on the person next to him. "Why are you so quiet?" he asked.

Zoe Jenson swallowed nervously.

She wanted to call out and let Alice York know she was here, but with Wyatt Sterling standing right in front of her, she was too intimidated to utter a single sound.

Fortunately, Alice York noticed just then. She immediately peeked out and, seeing it was Zoe Jenson, rushed out to hug her. "Zoe!"

Zoe Jenson had been building up her emotions the entire way in, but with Wyatt Sterling still there, she had to suppress it all and pretend to be poised and calm. "Yes, Alice. I came to see you."

Alice York didn’t understand why Zoe Jenson was so calm upon seeing her.

It wasn’t until she noticed Zoe Jenson’s anxious expression that she turned to Wyatt Sterling and said, "Third Uncle, I’d like to be alone with Zoe for a little while."

Wyatt Sterling said nothing and turned to leave.

Alice York immediately pulled Zoe Jenson into the room and locked the door behind them, all in one smooth motion.

Outside the door.

Mason Cheney was waiting nearby. Seeing Wyatt Sterling approach, he immediately reported, "Third Master, that Professor Locke came along, too."

Wyatt Sterling’s eyes turned cold and sharp. "Professor Locke?"

Mason Cheney practically bit his own tongue and corrected himself. "I mean Holden Locke. Just before Miss Jenson got out of the car, I heard Holden Locke ask her to tell Miss Alice that he came tonight, too."

Wyatt Sterling’s expression grew even colder. "How presumptuous."

Just then, Mason Cheney’s phone rang. He took it out and held it in front of Wyatt Sterling. "It’s a call from the Old Master."

Wyatt Sterling took it, his tone displeased. "What is it?"

Hearing his tone, Old Master Sterling on the other end of the line flared up. "What kind of tone is that?"

Wyatt Sterling: "Can’t you tell what kind of tone it is?"

The line went silent for a few seconds.

Although Wyatt Sterling didn’t hold absolute power in the Sterling family yet, his word carried the most weight. Old Master Sterling had to rely on him to prop up the family, so he had no choice but to show him some deference.

Thus, when Old Master Sterling spoke again, his attitude was much milder than before. "Wyatt, has the contract with the Churchill family been signed?"

Wyatt Sterling stood by the railing, his gaze drifting downward to the furtive figure of ’Kyle Churchill’.

He gave a soft laugh and said into the phone, "What’s the rush?"

"Of course I’m in a rush! You know how important this partnership with the Churchills is."

Old Master Sterling suppressed his urgent tone, trying his best to sound calm. "We have to get it signed as soon as possible. Otherwise, I can’t rest easy. That girl, Alice York, is a schemer. I’m afraid she’ll figure out the truth and run away. When the Churchills ask me for her, where am I supposed to find another one as easy to control as Alice to give them!"

Wyatt Sterling listened quietly, his expression dark and unreadable. "She won’t run."

With that assurance, Old Master Sterling felt a little more at ease. "This time you went over, did you see the girl?"

Wyatt Sterling tossed the phone to Mason Cheney.

Mason Cheney caught it like a hot potato, juggling it in his hands for a moment before getting a firm grip.

"Wyatt? Wyatt?" Old Master Sterling called out several times.

Wyatt Sterling said in a low voice, "Father, I will give you what you want."

Hearing this, Old Master Sterling was completely reassured. "Good, good, good. I’ll be waiting for your good news."

Mason Cheney ended the call. "Third Master, should we move the plan forward?"

"No need. We’ll wait for tomorrow." Influenced by the phone call, Wyatt Sterling was in a bad mood, and his expression was even worse.

"Then, Miss Alice... how does the Third Master plan to handle her?" Mason Cheney knew everything that was going to happen tomorrow, except for what Wyatt Sterling’s arrangements were for Alice.

Wyatt Sterling was silent for a long moment, then pulled out a cigarette case and lit a cigarette.

The thick smoke engulfed his face, and his voice seemed to float out from within it. "You’ll find out tomorrow."
