After Death, I Became a Superhuman-Chapter 54 – Witty and humorous
Rolling black smoke billowed out of the open windows, engulfing the thirty-story residential building in flames. The raging fire resembled a burning dragon clinging to the exterior of the building, while water jets from the firefighters' hands merged together like a shield made of flowing water, rushing towards the surging flames.
"Help! Help... cough, cough..."
The cries for help from the residents trapped in the fire echoed continuously. The fire, fueled by the impact of the high-pressure water jets, seemed to grow even more fierce, displaying an unrivaled momentum. With teeth bared and claws outstretched, it smirked triumphantly at the helpless people.
Almost an entire floor on the twenty-fourth level had been reduced to charred earth. Thick smoke filled the air, and flames continued to devour the remnants of debris. The few survivors had been forced into the corners of the floor, with the raging flames consuming most of the space. The scorching claws inched closer to them, and the heat waves were enough to drive one insane.
But they were not lucky enough to survive being engulfed by the flames. The structure of the building could no longer support itself. The burning ceiling, bearing the weight of at least three floors, collapsed with a loud crash, plummeting towards the crowd whose screams had already been drained dry...
A heavy impact.
But no one was turned into minced meat, and no one was burned to charcoal.
Like a gust of wind, a blue figure broke through the debris, materializing from the desperate cries in the blink of an eye. The scorching fragments fell on his bronze-skinned, iron-boned back, and the flames licked his body, but he smiled at the crowd as if he were completely unaffected.
This was Jiang Bei's fifth time flying out of the fire, carrying several shocked onlookers, a bathtub with a puppet cat, and soaring treasury values. As he took off, he looked at the fluctuating treasury values in his field of vision and nodded in satisfaction.
"This should be the last time."
He broke through the wall again and flew back into the raging fire. His X-ray vision pierced through layers of obstacles, locking onto the last target.
A lone man trapped under a wardrobe that was about to catch fire. The flames had almost engulfed the entire room, and all the exits had been blocked. The firefighters couldn't reach that place, and under normal circumstances, he would have been doomed.
Of course, he was lucky, and the situation was not ordinary.
Jiang Bei used his body to break through all the obstacles and lifted the wardrobe. "Don't worry, sir, you're safe now."
"I think so."
The man coughed violently, raised his head, and revealed a sinister and eerie smile.
"...But you might not be."
"Huh?"
A loud explosion came from an unknown corner, causing the entire building to tremble.
The roof collapsed almost instantly after the explosion, burying Jiang Bei underneath. Then, like a domino effect, the collapse of one corner triggered an instant chain reaction. The already crumbling building lost control in an instant, with each floor collapsing one after another.
Black smoke and flames erupted from every window, layer by layer, devouring the building, like a magnificent firework blooming in the dark night.
The scattered crowd let out exclamations of shock, and countless mobile phone cameras recorded this terrifying scene.
A shadow slipped out of the cracks in the collapsed building. A humanoid figure emerged from the shadow, and it was none other than the man who had been trapped under the wardrobe in the fire.
The Shadow Lord.
This massive fire was designed as bait to lure out the superhuman. They accurately calculated the structural load-bearing capacity of the building, and at the perfect moment, the Extraordinary Being named "Resonance" shattered the final load-bearing structure, triggering the collapse of the building.
And as the bait, the Shadow Lord timely used his ability to "Shadow Escape" and slipped out of the collapsed building, appearing beside his new teammate, Resonance.
He and the shadow that had been captured earlier were both extraordinary beings from the same branch, but he had a higher sequence. His shadow manipulation and control abilities were more proficient, and he had also developed more means of manipulating and attacking with shadows.
The Shadow Lord looked at the debris that had fallen into ruins in front of him, and couldn't help but feel satisfied. He punched Resonance on the shoulder and exclaimed, "Well done. This is called luring the enemy into a trap and then smashing a whole building on his head... Haha, it's truly a genius idea. This will definitely give him a hard time."
Resonance, the big fool, stared at the spot where he had been punched on his arm, angrily roared, and his not-so-bright eyes seemed to question, "Why did you hit me?"
"Don't... don't be nervous." The Shadow Lord hurriedly surrendered. "This is a friendly gesture between friends!"
"Is that so?"
Resonance paused, showing a somewhat puzzled expression. He then lowered his head to look at his own fist, which was as big as a sandbag, and then looked at the Shadow Lord, seemingly lost in thought.
"Wait, you don't have to hit back!" The Shadow Lord's forehead broke out in a sweat. "I've already understood your friendliness, felt it, and comprehended it!"
Joking aside, this big fool was not someone to mess with. It wouldn't be fun if he retaliated with a punch.Gong Zhen cracked a grin, revealing a simple and honest smile, "Hehe, friend."
"Yeah, friend, and now also a comrade."
The Shadow Lord surreptitiously wiped off his sweat, then also showed a brilliant smile.
"To be honest, I really didn't expect it to be so easy, haha! This time I've really hit the jackpot, this is the biggest score I've made since joining the organization..."
"You seem very happy, buddy."
Jiang Bei leaned casually on the Shadow Lord's shoulder, just like inseparable roommates in college.
"What's making you so happy? Care to share?"

The Shadow Lord hadn't even noticed anything amiss, casually pulling out a cigarette, "Actually, it's nothing much. But after the emergence of Superman, things have been really troublesome at the branch. I was always worried about not being able to meet the expectations of the higher-ups.
Fortunately, this mission was successful. That unlucky bastard was truly disgusting, flying around everywhere with something that looked like his mother's shawl, he's been making our branch sick these days..."
"Mm-hmm, that's quite excessive." Jiang Bei nodded in agreement, expressing his deep concurrence, "But to be fair, as a bystander, I still think it's a bit too much to say it's his mother's shawl. The red cape is actually quite handsome.
Let me guess, your organization should be... Prayer Meeting? Oh no, let me think again, should it be Electronic Wizard? You guys have that kind of smell..."
"Yeah, of course we're Electronic Wizards, you're just asking for the sake of asking..."
The Shadow Lord looked impatiently to the side, and the first thing he saw was Gong Zhen standing there with a confused look on his face, his bewildered expression was a bit like he didn't understand the situation.
Gong Zhen, being a bit slow-witted, was overloaded by the sight of his teammate chatting and shooting the breeze shoulder to shoulder with the enemy. He was a bit at a loss, even unsure whether he should step in.
Then the Shadow Lord froze.

Wait a minute, if Gong Zhen is standing there... then who is this leaning against me?
A terrifying thought instantly dominated his mind.
With a cigarette in his mouth, he stiffly and laboriously turned his neck inch by inch.
Then he saw Jiang Bei, smiling like a breath of spring air... and the huge hole pierced through the bottom of the collapsed building debris behind him.
The Shadow Lord was so scared that his cigarette flew out of his mouth.
"Damn it! It's Superman!"
