After Being Betrayed I Married the Glamorous CEO-Chapter 153: You’re too vain, too disappointing to me!
Having been with Shen Bufan for so many years, Wen Qian had always enjoyed lecturing and guiding him. Even though they had been broken up for two years, the moment Wen Qian saw him, she couldn’t help but fall back into her old habit.
What’s more, he had changed so much. He had become completely impractical, even stooping to flaunt fake luxury goods. Is this how he satisfies his pitiful vanity? But what does that really change?
Wen Qian shook her head, a scornful smile on her face as she looked at the Rolex bag in Shen Bufan’s hand. It was both ironic and ridiculous. How could someone from an ordinary family possibly afford such an expensive watch? Forget wearing one, he probably wouldn’t even dare to dream of it. Now, for a little bit of vanity, Shen Bufan had done something so outrageous, and she had caught him red-handed.
"Shen Bufan, I’m a bit disappointed in you," she said.
"I thought that after we broke up, you would learn your lesson, live a good life, and work hard. Of course, you were always destined to miss out on an outstanding woman like me...
"But I expected you would at least take life seriously. Look at you now." Wen Qian shook her head again, her expression a mix of sarcasm and amusement.
"Qianqian, it’s not like that," Shen Bufan said, scratching his head, unsure how to explain. He could barely believe he was wearing a watch worth hundreds of thousands; how could he expect Wen Qian to?
"You don’t need to explain." Wen Qian bit her lower lip, unwilling to listen to what she assumed would be flimsy excuses. It’s one thing to be poor, but you can’t have such low aspirations. And you certainly shouldn’t be so vain as to engage in behavior so far beyond your status.
"By the way, buddy, where’d you get this fake? You seem to have your sources," Zhang Dong said, deliberately putting his arm around Wen Qian’s shoulder and speaking to Shen Bufan in a teasing tone. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Alright, alright, let’s not waste our time on irrelevant people. Let’s go," Mother Wen said, eager to leave.
"Um, I... I’m getting married next month," Wen Qian announced just as she was about to leave.
If he had heard this a year ago, his heart would have sunk. But now? The words barely registered. Time truly is the best medicine.
"I see. I wish you happiness," Shen Bufan said sincerely.
Wen Qian blinked. That’s it? That’s all he has to say? The man who once loved her so dearly is about to watch her marry another, and his reaction is this calm? Why isn’t he heartbroken? Why doesn’t he show any regret? Why isn’t he crying, begging for my forgiveness? Shouldn’t he be collapsing in sorrow, realizing he’s lost his only chance at a lifetime of happiness? And I, Wen Qian, should have been destined to remain in his heart forever, an unforgettable memory!
"That’s all?" Wen Qian frowned, unable to stand his placid attitude.
Shen Bufan looked confused. "Huh? Is there something else?"
Wen Qian was speechless. "You’re a huge disappointment," she snapped, feeling her temper flare.
Shen Bufan scratched his head again. "We’ve been broken up for two years. Our relationship is barely better than that of strangers. I don’t feel the need to do anything to try and win your approval, not even for a moment. So, where is this ’disappointment’ you’re talking about coming from?" To him, who was simply speaking the truth, her disappointment was completely baffling.
"Shen Bufan, do you see now how wise and farsighted my decision was back then?" Mother Wen interjected, her chin held high in contempt. "I knew from the start you were a hopeless case, which is why I decisively separated you two.
"Otherwise, how would our Qianqian have had the chance to find a man as excellent as Zhang Dong? He’s a regional manager for a major real estate company, and his parents are high-ranking officials. A family like theirs is a perfect match for ours.
"And you..." She trailed off, looking as if she wanted to grind him into the dust.
Thankfully, Wen Qian and I are in the past. If a woman like this had become my mother-in-law, life would have been even more miserable. Thinking about it that way, it seems I didn’t lose out at all by our relationship ending when it did!
"Well, congratulations on finding such a fine son-in-law," Shen Bufan said, not wanting to escalate things. Besides, he had to go meet his blind date Ai Jing’s family soon. He didn’t have time to waste arguing with Wen Qian’s family.
Just then, Su Xiyang finished a phone call and walked over from a nearby elevator. "Bufan, what’s going on?" she asked, looking puzzled.
"My ex-girlfriend," Shen Bufan replied.
Ex-girlfriend? What a coincidence. Su Xiyang’s eyebrows knitted together. She recalled how, just last night, Shen Fanyun had mentioned Shen Bufan’s past relationship with obvious resentment. Though she didn’t know the specific details of their breakup, he had a strong feeling that the ex-girlfriend’s family had treated Shen Bufan poorly. More importantly, it was highly likely this family had belittled his parents.
Wen Qian looked at Su Xiyang with equal confusion. Even Zhang Dong’s eyes went wide as he stared at Su Xiyang’s beautiful face and swallowed hard. Does such a stunningly beautiful woman really exist in this world? This... What’s her relationship with Shen Bufan? Don’t tell me this toad managed to snag a swan as magnificent as her? That’s ridiculous! Impossible!
"What exactly is the relationship between you two?" Wen Qian demanded, gritting her teeth. The mere presence of Su Xiyang made her feel like a plain, rustic handmaiden, and she seethed with irritation and resentment.
Su Xiyang simply disliked Wen Qian’s tone. She’s an ex from years ago. Isn’t she overstepping her bounds?
"What’s it to you?" Su Xiyang retorted.
Wen Qian was once again left speechless. "Shen Bufan!" she demanded, turning her glare back to him.
Su Xiyang, however, had already sent a message to Shen Fanyun.
Shen Fanyun had been idly playing on his phone, but his eyes narrowed the moment he saw Su Xiyang’s message. Without a second thought, he opened his car door and strode into the mall.
"Your older brother is coming," Su Xiyang informed Shen Bufan.
"Ah," Shen Bufan hesitated. "Is that a good idea?"
"What’s not good about it? It’s obvious this family is full of snobs," Su Xiyang said righteously. "Your brother has been itching for a chance to stand up for you. Now he’s got the perfect opportunity."
Shen Bufan was speechless.
"Oh, right. You forgot the receipt. You should keep this," Su Xiyang said, handing a stack of papers to Shen Bufan.
Wen Qian, her mother, and her fiancé Zhang Dong exchanged glances, their eyes wide with shock and disbelief. The words "Rolex Official Boutique" were clearly printed on the top receipt.
"Knowing your brother’s temper," Su Xiyang smiled, "if he wasn’t worried about pressuring you, he would’ve definitely bought you a gold watch worth over a million."
Zhang Dong was speechless. Wen Qian stared in disbelief. How much? Over a million?
