Chapter 95: Want Everything

Delphinia sat with her legs crossed on the bed, running her fingers over the plush comforter as she doodled imaginary shapes. Her mind replayed the events of the day—simple, ordinary moments that felt extraordinary to her.

Today had been good. Really good.

She leaned back against the headboard, a soft smile playing on her lips. After spending time in her father’s house, a place that had been nothing but a prison to her, being here in Evander’s home felt like a gift she didn’t deserve. Every small, mundane moment with her new little family—Ashton’s cheeky grins, Sienna’s gentle smile, and even Evander’s quiet presence—felt so precious now.

Her eyes shifted to the bedside table, where a glass of water and her phone rested. She sighed softly, glancing at the empty side of the bed. The last time she’d seen Evander was after dinner when he’d excused himself to his office to finish some work. Her face warmed as fragments of last night flashed through her mind.

"Why am I thinking about him so much?" she murmured, shaking her head.

A soft sound from the door brought her attention back to the present. She looked up, startled, to see Evander entering the room. His dark hair was slightly disheveled, and there was a faint shadow of exhaustion under his eyes, though his gaze softened the moment it landed on her.

"You didn’t have to wait for me," he began. "If you were tired, you should’ve gone to sleep."

Delphinia straightened, crossing her arms defensively. "Who said I was waiting for you? Don’t get too confident."

Evander chuckled, a low, rich sound that made her heart skip a beat. "Of course. My mistake."

He walked over to her, something small and cold in his hand. "Here," he said, offering her an ice pack. "For your cheek."

Delphinia blinked in surprise, then took the ice pack hesitantly. "Thank you," she mumbled, her fingers brushing his briefly as she took it.

"You didn’t have to, though," she added, glancing up at him shyly. "I could’ve managed."

Evander sat down beside her, the bed dipping slightly under his weight. "It’s my duty as your husband to take care of you."

Her heart fluttered at the word "husband." She turned her face away, biting her lip to suppress a shy smile. "You’re so serious about this whole husband thing."

Evander leaned back, watching her intently. "Why wouldn’t I be?" he said softly.

Delphinia could feel his gaze on her, and it made her fidget nervously. She shifted her position, turning her back to him. But Evander simply adjusted his position as well, leaning slightly closer.

"Stop it."

"Stop what?"

"Looking at me!" she blurted, her hands coming up to cover her face. "I look terrible right now. My face is all swollen, and—"

Evander caught her wrists gently, lowering her hands from her face. "Who told you that?"

Delphinia blinked, caught off guard. "It’s obvious."

"No, it’s not," he replied. "You’re beautiful, Delphinia. The swollen cheek doesn’t change that."

Her breath hitched at his words. She glanced at him, her eyes wide. "You don’t have to say that just to make me feel better," she whispered.

"I’m not," he said simply. "I don’t care about the swollen cheek. I just hate that you got hurt. If I’d come sooner, maybe—"

"Evander," she interrupted, shaking her head. "Don’t blame yourself. I’m already so grateful that you came when you did."

He exhaled deeply, his shoulders relaxing slightly. "I wanted to come faster," he admitted. "But my parents showed up."

Delphinia’s eyes widened in shock. She lowered the ice pack, forgetting about her cheek entirely. "Your parents?"

Evander nodded. "They wanted to talk about us. About our marriage."

"What did they say?"

"They were surprised, of course," he said, a small smile tugging at his lips. "That was their first reaction. But they seem okay with it. They want to meet you soon."

Delphinia stared at him, her lips parted in disbelief. "They just... accepted it? Just like that?"

Evander chuckled softly. "I was surprised too. Even Julian couldn’t believe it when I told him."

"This feels... too easy," she said, frowning slightly. "In stories, there’s always some kind of challenge or obstacle when it comes to things like this. This isn’t some kind of calm before the storm, is it?"

Evander leaned back, crossing his arms as he considered her words. "I’ve thought about that too," he admitted. "Except for the part about it needing to follow some kind of story logic. But let’s not worry about that right now. Let’s just hope things continue to go smoothly for us."

"For us?" she echoed softly, her heart skipping a beat.

"Yes," he answered. "For us. Forever."

Her cheeks flushed at the word. "Forever?" she repeated, almost in disbelief.

Evander reached for her hand, his fingers warm as they intertwined with hers. "I mean every word, Delphinia," he said with quiet conviction. "I want to be with you forever."

Her breath caught in her throat. "Why?" she whispered. "What do you want from me, Evander?"

He met her eyes and didn’t blink. "Everything," he said simply.

She blinked, her brows furrowing slightly. "Everything?"

"Every part of you—your happiness, your laugh, your smile—everything," he said, each word quieter than the last. "The list could go on and on, but we’d be up all night if I kept going."

Her heart swelled at his words, tears prickling at the corners of her eyes. "You’re serious about this?"

"Very," he said, squeezing her hand gently.

She bit her lip, her gaze dropping to their intertwined hands. "I don’t know," she murmured. "I think you could do better. There are so many women out there who are more—"

"Don’t," he interrupted. "Don’t compare yourself to anyone else. Everyone has their flaws, their weaknesses. No one is perfect. And besides..."

He leaned closer, his voice dropping to a near whisper. "I don’t want anyone else. I only want you, Delphinia. You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be you."

Her heart raced, her cheeks flushing deeply. She looked up at him, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. "I hope this isn’t a dream," she whispered.

"It’s not."

Before she could say anything else, he leaned in, his lips capturing hers in a gentle yet passionate kiss. She closed her eyes, her heart pounding as she melted into the moment.

For the first time in a long time, she felt completely at peace.
