Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 94: Morning of Promises
Delphinia stirred awake, her body melting into the soft, plush mattress beneath her. For the first time in what felt like forever, she had slept peacefully. No nightmares, no restless tossing and turning—just blissful, uninterrupted sleep. She let out a content sigh, her lips curving into a small smile.
As her eyes fluttered open, she blinked in confusion. The ceiling above her wasn’t familiar, and neither were the silky gray curtains drawn neatly to the side of the windows. She sat up slowly, her gaze darting around. This wasn’t her room—the one she despised with its suffocating walls and heavy furniture that always made her feel trapped.
Her breath hitched as the memories of last night came rushing back. Evander. His lips brushing against hers. The way his voice had softened when he told her he missed her.
Delphinia felt her cheeks heat up, and she bit her bottom lip to keep from smiling too widely. If she were being honest, she missed him too. Not just him, though—Ashton, Sienna, and even the warm, bustling atmosphere of this house. It felt like coming back to something she hadn’t realized she’d lost.
She glanced to her side and saw Evander still asleep, his face calm and peaceful. The morning light softened his sharp features, and she felt a flutter in her chest. It was rare to see him like this, without the weight of the world on his shoulders.
Quietly, she slid out of bed, careful not to wake him.
After a quick shower, Delphinia stood in front of the mirror, running a towel over her damp hair. She studied her reflection for a moment. Her cheeks still held a faint flush from her thoughts, and her eyes looked brighter, more alive.
With a small nod, she slipped into a comfortable dress and made her way downstairs. The kitchen was as inviting as ever, with the familiar warmth and the soft hum of the coffee maker in the corner. Delphinia smiled to herself as she set about preparing breakfast. She’d forgotten how much she loved this—cooking breakfast for the people she cared about.
Delphinia hummed quietly as she worked, arranging the plates neatly and adding small touches like a sprinkle of parsley here and there.
When everything was ready, she carried the plates to the dining table, setting them down just as a familiar voice called out.
"Delphinia!"
She turned quickly, her heart skipping a beat. There stood Ashton, looking every bit the gentleman like his father. His face lit up with a grin when he saw her.
"Good morning, Ashton," she said warmly, her smile widening.
But Ashton wasn’t satisfied with just a greeting. "Delphinia!" he called again, this time louder, and before she could react, he ran over and threw his arms around her.
Caught off guard, Delphinia crouched down and wrapped her arms around him tightly. She closed her eyes, her heart swelling as she held him close. "Oh, Ashton," she whispered. "I missed you so much."
Ashton leaned back a little, his big eyes searching hers. "Why did you spend so much time at your friend’s house? I thought you weren’t coming back!"
Delphinia laughed softly, though there was a hint of sadness in her eyes. "I’m sorry," she said, brushing a strand of hair from his forehead. "I decided to stay for a night or two because I hadn’t seen her in a long time."
She couldn’t possibly tell Ashton the truth—that her own father had locked her away. The thought made her stomach twist, and she silently apologized for the small lie.
"I thought you weren’t coming back."
Delphinia’s chest tightened. She cupped his cheek gently, her thumb brushing against his skin. "Why would you think that, Ashton? This is my home," she said softly.
He nodded, but there was still uncertainty in his eyes. "You promise you’re not going to leave me and Daddy?"
Delphinia smiled, though her throat felt tight. "No, Ashton," she said firmly. "I’m not going anywhere."
Ashton held up his pinky finger, his expression serious. "Promise?"
She linked her pinky with his without hesitation. "Promise."
Ashton beamed, his smile lighting up the room. "You already promised! That means you can’t break it."
Delphinia laughed, a genuine, heartwarming sound. "I won’t break it," she assured him.
They stayed like that for a moment longer before Ashton’s gaze shifted, and he frowned. "What happened to your cheek?"
Delphinia’s hand shot to her face, her fingers brushing over a faint bruise she hadn’t realized was still visible. "Oh, it’s nothing," she said quickly. "I hit a bedroom door by accident. You should be careful and not be clumsy like me."
Ashton tilted his head slightly, worry clear in his expression. "Are you sure?"
"I’m sure," she said, her voice a little too cheerful.
Before Ashton could press further, the sound of approaching steps caught their attention. Delphinia turned just in time to see Evander enter the kitchen.
Her breath caught as he approached, looking effortlessly handsome. He walked straight to her, and to her surprise, leaned in and pressed a kiss to her cheek.
Delphinia gasped softly, her eyes widening as she glanced at him, then at Ashton, who was watching them curiously.
With a knowing smirk and a soft gaze, Evander said, "Good morning."
Delphinia’s face turned a bright shade of red. She fidgeted with her hands, unsure of how to respond. "Good morning," she mumbled, avoiding his gaze.
Ashton, ever observant, pointed at her. "Delphinia, your cheeks are red!"
Evander let out a soft laugh, while Delphinia fought the urge to melt into the floor. "It’s just...the kitchen is warm," she said quickly, waving a hand.
Ashton didn’t seem convinced, but he let it go, turning his attention to the breakfast spread on the table.
Delphinia risked a glance at Evander, who was now pouring himself a cup of coffee. He caught her looking and gave her a small, knowing smile. Her cheeks heated again, and she quickly busied herself with arranging the table.
For the first time in a long while, Delphinia felt a sense of peace—a feeling that maybe, just maybe, things were finally falling into place.
