Academic gathering with a lich-Chapter 503 - 465 Nameless’s Purpose
Andrey’s figure asking for help split into two people.
Kevin kept looking back, with a strange expression, at this gentleman who volunteered to help, and once again he raised a question.
"Is Mr. Nameless really a friend of Lyle?"
Nameless, a member of the Advanced Magic Research Society, an occultism researcher. A smile appeared on his face, the kind of deliberate smile that made people uncomfortable, produced by someone who has been expressionless for a long time out of necessity.
"Yes, Kevin, Mr. Plague Doctor and I are very good friends. Since you and Mr. Plague Doctor are brothers, naturally, you and I are also good brothers. Helping you is my duty."
"It’s not about helping me, it’s about helping Lyle, Mr. Nameless. Your focus seems a bit strange."
"Hahaha, I felt an instant connection with you, Kevin. Perhaps those wonderful feelings are the arrangements of destiny." Nameless’s hand gently patted Kevin’s shoulder.
"Destiny, huh? In that case, it does seem reasonable." Moved by his intuition, Kevin believed Nameless’s words, although he had a weird feeling at the same time he believed him.
The two were now on their way back to Andrey’s castle, preparing to go to the Magic Research Society room on the first floor, which was a good place to ask about the Scholar Professor’s whereabouts. Along the way, Nameless, like a chatterbox, chatted nonstop with Kevin, taking over the conversation with his knowledge of Andrey’s work.
"The Scholar Professor is one of the founders of the Magic Research Society. He is the greatest magic professor in Andrey. To find his trace, we should best ask his closest students. By the way, my Advanced Magic Research Society also has a myriad of connections with Scholar Professor."
"So, Mr. Nameless, can you also get in touch with Scholar Professor?"
"I’m very sorry, but our president has some minor personal conflicts with the Scholar Professor, so we cannot." It was as if Nameless had suddenly remembered something, "By the way, Kevin, have you gone through the newcomer’s physical after arriving in Andrey?"
"Newcomer’s physical? What is that? Lyle hasn’t told me about this?"
"Oh! Mr. Plague Doctor didn’t tell you about the newcomer’s physical?" feigned surprise, Nameless spoke with terms he had fabricated within twenty seconds, "Andrey is a multi-disciplinary magic academy, where magic research is free and chaotic. You might not feel it, but in fact, there are many tiny chaotic magic particles in the air here. For those new students who have just enrolled, they usually need a physical to ensure that the chaotic magic won’t cause any harm to their bodies. Additionally, the physical has another purpose, which is to identify the nature of the newcomer’s magic power and to determine the future development direction of the apprentice."
Nameless finally realized the stiffness of his smile, so he just blinked his eyes, "Want to try it, Kevin? Want to know which society you are more suitable for and what kind of magic you will have?"
Nameless’s alluring speech struck a chord with Kevin, who showed great interest, just like Lyle did when he first joined Andrey, but he still politely declined.
"Mr. Nameless, thank you for your kind offer, but let’s focus on Lyle for now. He needs our help."
"All right, but don’t worry too much, Kevin. That is Mr. Plague Doctor. The brightest new star of Andrey won’t be in any trouble. Whether it is Evil God studies or Spirit Summoning Studies, he will turn danger into safety. Regarding the path he walks, apart from others, there are not more than five people in this world who can fully erode his existence."
"Five people?"
"Only a Follower of the Evil God can devour a Follower of the Evil God. As far as I know, there is only one entity named Serio who might cause harm to Lyle; he is likely an adherent of Sleeper Triton, born an enemy to the entity behind Lyle."
"Serio? Serio Hamlet!"
Nameless narrowed his eyes and studied Kevin with a deeper gaze, "Kevin, you know that person too?"
"I believe so, but the Serio in my memory was just a common human fleeing from disaster, although his family was indeed destroyed in the midst of strange evil. I even acquired the title and lands of the Hamlet family."
In Nameless’s gaze, Kevin’s Thread of Destiny and Serio’s were tightly entwined, which was very bad—Nameless felt it was very bad.
For the first time, he witnessed such a being whose Thread of Destiny was not in his grasp. However, the originally entwined threads of Disaster Inducement all took a turn, leaving only the clear veins of good fortune. If Mr. Raymond was a black hole that devoured destiny, then Kevin was a stable nebula made up of good luck. A perfect vessel for fortune, or rather, fortune itself.
And yet, entangled in Kevin’s destiny was Serio.
Nameless, himself a Follower of the Silver Sage along with being a Follower of the Evil God, naturally knew how unreasonable the Evil God could be. It was highly possible that Serio would ignore Kevin’s luck, thus destroying his perfect experiment subject.
From the very first glance Nameless shared with Kevin, he knew this human was extremely important to him, very important.
No one was allowed to harm him; the always indifferent Nameless found his true target.
As Nameless thought, he had remained in place for nearly ten minutes.
"Mr. Nameless, does Serio influence our upcoming rescue operation in any way?"
Nameless revealed a smile.
"There might be an influence, or there might not be. Regardless, I will join this rescue and become a help to you, Kevin."
"Uh... Lyle will definitely appreciate it a lot."
Nameless and Kevin arrived at the first floor of Andrey, and many figures along the way were staring at the two, or more accurately, at the incessantly talkative Mr. Nameless, whose presence had once triggered an economic crisis in Andrey. Naturally, he would attract attention, especially when the irresponsible Nameless suddenly started behaving as talkative and optimistic as a gentleman. This piqued the greatest curiosity of the Andrey Liches.
"Was Nameless brainwashed by Raymond?"
"Who’s that with him? A newcomer from the Advanced Magic Research Society?"
"That’s Nameless for you, showing such an attitude towards a newcomer of the Advanced Magic Research Society. Even his mentor, Professor Gravity, is almost driven to collapse by him. If the sun rises from the west tomorrow, I wouldn’t be surprised."
"Nameless is looking over here; let’s go, quick."
Nameless watched as the two liches quickly left. He personally didn’t care about the comments; in fact, he was more focused on the fog gate behind them, the entrance to the Magic Research Society.
"We’re here, Kevin," Nameless said, feeling that the journey was brief and left him somewhat unsatisfied, especially since there were some things he hadn’t fully experimented with.
The Thread of Destiny was gently pulled, causing ripples.
Kevin breathed a sigh of relief.
"Without Mr. Nameless, I would probably still be wandering around the academy like a headless fly, which is too dangerous. Mr. Nameless, you might not have seen it, but when I first jumped from the Cup of Extravagance, I was actually being chased by two rampaging Spine Wheels."
"That must have been quite thrilling."
Hooked.
With a smile, Nameless picked up on Kevin’s topic. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
"Chase sequence? Such things have become quite common in Andrey recently. Kevin, do you know, if it’s a chase in the corridor of a literary society, they might well roll over every corridor in the entire castle of Andrey. Look at our feet; there are no traces of damage here. That means the Spine Wheel could pass by here at any moment."
Kevin laughed heartily.
"How could that be, Mr. Nameless? If one were to get run over by a Spine Wheel twice in one night, that would be incredibly unlucky. Impossible..."
Boom, boom, boom, boom...
"..."
Kevin, stricken with terror, and Nameless, still smiling, exchanged glances; it was the first time Kevin felt the sensation of destiny playing a joke on him.
The Spine Wheel charged towards them ferociously, and amid the sinister bone spikes, several fragments of bone could faintly be seen, belonging to the two unluckies who had just been chased off by Nameless’ gaze.
"Disaster Inducement."
