Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 417 Assassination Mechanism
[Donald’s Perspective]
It seemed like a long time since someone had addressed him in that manner; Martha’s facial muscles visibly twitched, then morphed into a sneer.
She looked at me and scoffed, "Don’t you find yourself ridiculous at this moment, Donald? Aren’t you, who deprived Dan of his title, the epitome of hypocrisy? Oh, I forgot, the members of the Wolf royal family always pretend to be something they’re not, of course you won’t admit to the disgusting and sinful acts you’ve committed!"
Martha’s sneer intensified as she spoke; she arched an eyebrow and a sharp dagger slid from her wide sleeve! She adeptly grasped the hilt, turned her body slightly, and pressed the blade of the dagger against the side of Margaret’s neck.
"What do you think, if I kill her now, will you feel even a fraction of the pain I felt back then?"
There was a hint of negotiation in her tone, but I slowly narrowed my eyes, filled with a dangerous warning.
Just as I was about to verbally warn Martha to release Margaret, Henry, who stood beside them, suddenly spoke out!
He looked down and said in a deep voice, "Put down your dagger."
I almost instinctively glanced at Henry out of the corner of my eye, feeling puzzled by the situation, while Martha didn’t seem surprised at Henry’s protective stance toward Margaret.
She glanced sideways at Henry who had spoken, the defiance in her eyes softened somewhat, and her tone became complex as she spoke, "This woman won’t easily come with us, you must understand this from what just happened! Her heart is entirely with that bastard, you guys—"
"Enough! Stop talking."
Martha’s words were cut off abruptly by Henry.
It was then that he finally looked up at me, his eyes filled with indecipherable emotions.
I frowned, no longer wanting to waste words with this mother and son, and said coldly, "You can’t take Margaret! And none of you are leaving here alive today! I won’t give you another chance to flee, Henry."
After speaking, I signaled Christian for an attack, shifted in an instant, and charged at the soldiers surrounding them without hesitation!
While I was conversing with Henry, Elliot had silently taken down Austin and his group! Just as I had said before, in the face of substantial danger, Henry would not hesitate to abandon all his allies, even someone as close as Austin.
Austin, clutching his bleeding chest, leaned against the wall and coldly watched our battle unfold, "I really didn’t expect you to break in so quickly! I had laid so many Transformed Werewolves in ambush in the forest; even the ’Demon King’ was stationed there, how did you bypass them to get here?"
His voice wasn’t very loud, yet I heard him clearly.
Disregarding him was all the response I gave; he let out a self-deprecating laugh, watching me weave through the enemy ranks, and continued without pause, "It was that werewolf named Anthony who told you, wasn’t it? He must be quite capable to sneak in so successfully with those Lycans, but we disrupted all satellite signals with jammers as soon as we discovered him, how did you receive the message he sent?"
Elliot and Christian were covering me from threats, and amidst the intense noises of battle, no one responded to him.
Of course, I had no interest in addressing his confusion; my focus was solely on Margaret in the crowd.
Earlier, standing on the outskirts, I hadn’t seen what was behind Margaret, but now that I was closer, I realized they were standing on a huge stone platform that hid a dark and mysterious deep pool!
A large submarine floated in the water, its hatch open, but no one was inside; it seemed Henry had used all his forces for their own protection.
I sensed trouble; Henry’s forces weren’t just this few. Most of his soldiers must have already evacuated, but why hadn’t he and Martha, both leaders of their forces, left first?
Questions flooded my mind as I looked at Henry with a puzzled expression.
"Donald! Be careful!" Margaret suddenly disregarded the soldiers restraining her and screamed out to me.
I instantly snapped back to reality as the sound of numerous arrows slicing through the air reached my ears; I sank into my werewolf instincts and swiftly dodged!
Elliot and Christian’s protection came at a crucial time; they quickly gathered around me, clearing the path of werewolf soldiers and shooting at the swarm of incoming arrows.
I glanced at two segmented arrow shafts on the ground, then turned my icy gaze back to Austin, guarded by two Lycans, "You really go out of your way for Henry, even wasting such expensive arrows so recklessly? It must have taken you a lot of time to set up this mechanism; you truly spared no effort."
Having assessed Austin’s ’masterpiece,’ I redirected my gaze to Margaret on the platform, silently sending her a reassuring look.
